Giguere Signs! is reporting that the Anaheim Ducks have re-signed goaltender and one time Conn Smythe winner(2003).  The deal is reportedly worth $24 million over 4 years. I personally believe that they got a bit of a discount on this guy. He probably could have fetched closer to $7 million on the open market with the trend of signings lately.
So, I guess this means that teams that had their eye on this guy(there definately were lots) to come in and fill their voids have to turn to cheaper versions. Now it looks like the big names on the market are toskala, bryzgalov, one of the Nashville boys, fernandez, Denis, Hasek and Joseph. It is pretty clear that the market for goaltenders has just gone up. Where do you guys think these guys will go and what extent do you think teams will go to in order to get them?

I actually thought he’d get more. It’s a fair prce considering his career even if many know that he is overrated. But, he works well as a Duck.

For sure Bryzgalov will be traded. Come to Sunrise Ilya!

Hes not worth that much but they got him at a good price still simply becose the goaltending UFA market is weeeak and im sure SOMEONE would have paid top dollar for him.  Hes good but hes not THAT good, in all fairness he did have a kickass offence in front of him to score tons of goals and take the pressure off.  And then theres the big 3 Anaheim has on defence that make his life a hell of alot easier.  But non the less hes a great goalie.  Good signing.

Should have been a 2 time Conn Smythe winner.

IMO, the reason he actually agreed to re-sign with the Ducks at that price is that he has success there and is happy to be in Anaheim.  I'm sure he could of had more elsewhere but 6M is plenty for a goalie of his caliber.  I just hate how the players are so overpaid this season but then again, blame the raised salary cap…

Everyone says Jiggy played well because of our defense corps. That's true too, but when  Bryz played with the same defense in front of him, he didn't play nearly as well as Jigger. Not only that, Giguere was the 2003 Conn Smythe winner and he has a crap load of playoff experience compared to other goaltenders. Experience is vital for playoff success and it helps when you're under a lot of pressure (see what happened to Emery when he flopped in the last game). This is the reason why I think Giguere deserved this amount of money because he is a top 5 goaltender today. However that's just my opinion, but having watched all 82 games and the playoffs, I think my assessment of Giguere is pretty good. GO DUCKS!

For the most part I agree, it's alot of money but thats what it costs for talent.

If you take into consideration the amount of money being thrown out there this season and the fact that Giguere was the only quality UFA goalie, it's a good deal!
