Goaltending Duo Remaning Schedule

20 year old Carey Price is Montreal’s future franchise goalie but it seems that he will need to once again prove himself that he is #1.

22 year old Jaroslav Halak just came off a shutout and got the nod in goal against the St. Louis Blue.

Is Carboneau gearing up Price for the last 8 games?

We all know Carey Price is Montreal’s guy between the pipes but you have to reward Jaroslav Halak for his performance against the Islanders, So why not give him another start?

Some fans are probably worrying that Carbonneau is messing with Carey Price’s confidence but I’m sure Carbo has a plan for his goaltenders. Montreal is playing Boston back to back after tomorrow’s game against the Blues so it seems that Carey Price will get both starts as well as the game against Ottawa the following Monday.

On a recent interview on RDS, Carbonneau stated that there is no use burning out his players just so they can finish 1st overall in the eastern standings, Although it is a goal for the Habs, Carboneau believes it is more important to enter the Playoffs on a good note rather then bad. Bad meaning:

Fatigue
Loosing Streak
Scoring Slump And/Or Sloppy Defense
Goaltending Controversy
Etc.

Carbonneau pretty much stated that he will play his regulars but rotate the others like:
Grabovski/Lapierre/Dandenault/Begin/O’Bryne/Briseboise

It is also reasonable to believe that Carbonneau will give his veteran players a night off at some point. (Not all at the same time of course)

Here is Montreal’s remaining schedule & who I think will start in goal for them(Based on their recent performance,Although one of them can falter and the other can take over):

Boston(March 20th):Price
Boston(March 22nd):Price
Ottawa(March 24th):Price
Buffalo(March 28th):Halak
Toronto(March 29th):Price
Ottawa(April 1st):Price
Buffalo(April 3rd):Halak
Toronto(April 5th):Price

Tough last 8 games if you ask me, All in the Northeast Division. This can make or break the Habs heading into the playoffs. Hopefully Montreal’s young Goaltending Duo will lead us to victory and keep Montreal in that division lead!

Not that my prediction is correct, but it seems reasonble to give Carey Price 5 or 6 starts of the remaining 8 games. I think Bob Gainey would like to see his 1st round pick between the pipes for the playoffs. Jaroslav Halak has potential to be a #1 goalie as well, If he wins tomorrow then his stock has risen. He is a RFA an the end of the season so I’m sure teams with no goaltending depth might be giving Bob Gainey a call…

Personally I’m happy to have both Price & Halak. I hope the Habs hit the 100 point mark in the standings.

Who do you think should start & when?

Hope he doesn’t retain that position. I invested a lot in Price speaking in terms of my keeper league of course. However, this is a good hockey move and remember Price is only 20 years old. You don’t want to throw a young goalie into the flames of the playoffs unless he’s proven and this battle with Halak will add layers to the armor.

I think halak should play the first game against Ottawa just because Price hasn't beaten them yet and maybe Halak can change the momentum in that series.

This is to Brumagnus, please STFU already, if you have decent comments to make go ahead but half of yours are very childish so lay off abit already.

    Just a little comedic relief!

Trying to bring sunshine in the cloudy days of the may users here. I thought the Happy Gilmour quote was quite fitting!

hey man….despite his notable Pens bias (lol), Bru is one of the most intelligent person, after me (lol again), who's posting here. so I think he's earned well the right to write a few jokes sometimes. keep up the good work Bru.

  6. leafy says:

Price is the man, but Halak is no pushover either.  It's a good problem to have.

  7. leafy says:

Bru is all right, he's just clowning around.

Yeah but the two comments on this forum were by BruMagnus- (with the dash at the end). It was the fake BruMagnus.

Yea I noticed that later.  Very confusing.  It's like Bizarro Superman from comic books (the anti-Superman from a parallel universe).

  10. Radio says:

Price better start them all, damn. He's my backup goalie in my hockey pool.
