Golisano to buy Sabres

Billionaire B. Thomas Golisano has signed an asset purchase agreement to buy the bankrupt NHL Buffalo Sabres, all but securing the team’s future in Buffalo after eight months of uncertainty, a league source said Thursday.

Golisano now must seek final approval of the purchase from U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Buffalo. Golisano’s offer is scheduled to be presented to Judge Michael Kaplan at 10 a.m. Friday.

The source, who is familiar with the negotiations and spoke on condition of anonymity, said more details will emerge Friday afternoon. Golisano has scheduled a news conference for 1:30 p.m. Friday at HSBC Arena, the Sabres’ home, said Laura Saxby-Lynch, his spokeswoman.

Thank god, now lets see how much money he is willing to put into the team.

This retard is desperate to win the next election.

    Good for the Sabres though.

No offence to the Sabres, but someone in Southern Ontario should’ve bought that team and moved it to Hamilton.

They wouldn’t have had to pay anything to the Leafs because they are already in the area, so no $50 mil surcharge.

Copps CoL could’ve been used for the next five years and then privately they could’ve built another arena.

They would’ve got TV money from a few different networks, and would’ve had a more solid financial base to lauch from then Ottawa.

Some od us Leaf fans would go up the road not even an hour to go catch games, it would’ve been a cash cow just like the Leafs.

Yet the NHL puts up road blocks to this constantly.

It would be a solid franchise, more so then any other Canadian team besides the Leafs.

Its not like more than half of the season ticket holders for Buffalo aren’t from this area anyways.

Unfortunately I don’t see things getting much better for the Sabres for a long time.

Galisano won’t invest enough to make it a winner, and the Buffalo area lacks major corporate sponsors.

Anyways Bettman is a genuis, let no one stand in his way.

Unfortunately it affects the league as a whole, and we are made to suffer communities that do not support their teams.

Alot of the expansion teams do not deserve their teams, and it just waters down the product for the rest of us.

I couldn’t agree more…i remember back when the expansion was discussed in great detail for Hamilton the main reason why they couldn’t get one was because Buffalo argued that they would lose a lot of support because as you said a lot of the people going to games there are ones that don’t have corporate connections for leafs tickets…so the solution is to move buffalo to a bigger market where they would most definitely thrive. and i can almost guarantee you this billionnaire has big plans to move the team once he can convince bettman…where would you guys rather see a team Hamilton or Vegas?

    Hamilton for sure…

Weird to say but more money….

    good support too.

This area can easily support another team.
