Habs made an offer to Brisebois?

The Montreal Canadiens have reportedly made an offer to UFA Defencemen Patrice Brisebois believed to be a 700 000$, 1-year contract.Journal de Montreal and the Team 990 have repordetly given us this information this morning. Patrice Brisebois 700 000$ would be a good deal but in my opinion we didn’t need another d-man. Even if it’s 1 year deal the Habs have too many now.

Maybe Streit will be playing forward. Or maybe Gorges and Dandenault wont play as often.

Here is teh story http://www.canoe.com/sports/nouvelles/archives/2007/07/20070728-065400.html

no you caveman (not offensively speaking), you have to look at the bigger picture. We get Brisebois. We ship Dandenault and Ryder for a quality centre (Marleau) Read my article…

  2. modk09 says:

the story is on TSN as well for those with no french

He will put up 25-30 points, is responsible defensively, loves the city, good for the community… Yes hes soft but hes a great leader

as long as he isnt relied on to be the number 1 guy like he was before, we will be Giddy to have him for that amount, especially when Dandy, Perezhogin, and Ryder are dealt for a better forward!!!!!

  3. Les-Habitants says:

"Responsible defensively" and "a great leader"??????????!?!?
You have got to be joking, unless Brisebois changed his game completely.  Yes, he is decent offensively, but he is one of the least responsible d-men in the league, he looks like swiss cheese on the ice…watching him play is one of the most nerve racking things i've ever seen!!  Good god, no no no….move forward, not backwards.

And besides, if we do sign a d-man it shouldn't be Brisebois.  I'll say it again: DANNY MARKOV!!!  How this guy is still available blows my mind.  He's an great d-man, and while people don't get him for his offensive skills he did QB the Russian national team's 2nd PP unit so there ya go

And forget about Brisebois having trade value!!  There is a reason he hasn't signed with anyone yet….

  4. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

ok, to the 2 hab fans who posted before me:

do not EXPECT a trade. its like the nucks fan who said the nucks will win the cup, BECAUSE they will trade for Elias. until the trade has been made, don't expect it too. especially since nobody is even reporting any of the cammaleri/marleau/boucher RUMERS.

  5. modk09 says:

Markov wants $3.5-4M brisebois wants $700K

” There is a reason he hasn’t signed with anyone yet….” is that not true of markov too???

Brisebois wont be traded, Dandenault will and brisebois will replace him very nicely

  6. modk09 says:

camel and boucher are complete proposals that he made for discussion, Marleau has been rumored to be available as Wilson is pissed at him and montreal, toronto, buffalo, and boston have ALL been rumored destinations. Ottawa almost got it done but Redden nixed the deal at the last minute

  7. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

come on listen to yourself!!!! and ontario based hockey rumers website reports marleau going to every single northeast team!!!

Marleau will not be traded unless san jose feels they are getting better players back. and trust me when i tell you Wilson is not pissed at marleau. theres no reason to be mad at a guy for 1 bad playoff run; or else alfredsson would have been traded a long time ago.

  8. modk09 says:

i didnt say ANYTHING about an ontario based site

and Wilson PUBLICLY called out and criticized Marleau during the playoffs

PLUS he is a UFA next year and they might not be able to sign him

i dont think the deals will happen all i said is that they have been reported elsewhere

  9. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

hockeybuzz is the ONLY source calling for marleau's departure.

JP richardi publicly called out and critisized vernon wells last season, then signed him at 18 million dollars a year. when a GM calls out a player, he wants the player to be better.

Marleau is in a calibre higher than ryder, halak, higgins. if san jose openly shops marleau, he will get offers much better than what the habs are willing to offer.

I think we might see a hossa for marleau(with picks and players in it to even it out) trade happen, but i dont see san jose wasting a fabulas trade oppritunity on halak.

  10. habsrock99 says:

Now seriously, you made a huge mistake in your comment. Hossa for Marleau will NEVER happen because for a one, small, intricate detail. Both players are UFA's at the end of next season. Why would San Jose trade their Captain for Hossa, who will probably leave no matter where he is next season?

  11. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

both will be UFA's next season no matter what. Marleau and Hossa are 2 guys on their teams 2nd lines. Imagine Hossa and Thornton. Imagine Marleau and Kovalchuk

  12. 24_cups_and_counting says:

Marleau for Hossa? C'mon. The reason they may want to trade Marleau is because he will be a UFA and will command a substantial raise. Why would they trade for a guy that is already making 6 million and will want quite a bit more when his contract expires?

  13. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

it really doesn't matter, because marleau wont be traded anyway.

  14. habsrock99 says:

You must have become a Habs fan AFTER the lock-out. Did you not see the season before the lock-out when Brisebois put up a +17 rating??? Didn't think so. Wanna know why he played so well defensively? Because Gainey got fans like you to shut up about his play and Brisebois put up really good numbers. Brisebois not only respects Gainey, he also likes him. Danny Markov will never come to Montreal. Wanna know what I think, he out-priced himself by asking to be paid like a Top 4 defencemen when in reality, he's a 3rd pair defencemen. Like you said about Brisebois, the SAME thing goes towards Markov, there's a reason why he hasn't signed with anyone.

  15. TheStryker says:

Hossa for Marleau won't happen. They are both UFA's after this year, and both will command ove 6 million a year. So if their respective teams see that they can't sign them they will be traded for high level prospects and/or picks and decent players i.e. Ryder

  16. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

    cup contenders dont do that

  17. habsrock99 says:

Hossa play's one Atlanta's #1 line. it's Hossa-Kovalchuk-Kozlov. Why on earth would you split those 3 up when both Hossa and Kovalchuk continue to get Kozlov points even though Kozlov is way past his prime. Atlanta also doesn't have any other proven players that they can give San Jose. Maybe Garnett Exelby but that would be trading there BEST defenceman for Marleau and picks. Also, Mareau is better than Hossa in 2 departments, defence and leadership, Hossa has the edge on offence and since Atlanta is taking the Tampa Bay route in building a team, they won't trade an explosive star who can be argued as being a superstar, for just leadership and defensive ability.

  18. senators101 says:

Bryan Murray said they had a deal for Redden going to San Jose, but he said no.  There were rumors that it was for Marleau.

Why would San Jose trade Marleau for Hossa?  If they don't want Marleau because he's not a playoff performer, well here's some news: Hossa isn't either.

  19. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

redden for marleau makes sense, as it could make san jose a better team.

  20. senators101 says:

But what about your hossa proposal? Trading a captain who avged more than a point per game in the playoffs this year for Hossa who isn't a playoff performer.

Question: Didn't Marleau do that from the 2nd line as well? Or does he play with Thornton… I don't think he does.

  21. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

Marleau does everything on the PP, i think he and thornton combined for 30 PP goals, where one scored and the other assisted.

Hossa for marleau was an interest of mine, it has no truth to it whatsoever. I think a significantly better san jose coaching staff has a lot to do with playoff performance.

  22. DoubleDown says:

i disagree. if the Habs sign brisebois, they will have too many 5-6 Dmen. i would expect dandenault to be dealt (for nothing mind you, just to clear a roster and cap space). makes no sense to sign breezer and not deal a dman. then you’re guaranteed to have dandenault or bouillon a healthy scratch nigh in, night out, and there’s no room for a possible rookie like o’byrne or valentenko to crack the lineup, and i really think o’byrne is going into camp with a spot on the club unless he does something to lose it during camp.

this is a very peculiar move if we do sign brisebois. i don’t think gainey’s plan involves signing stopgap vets and preempting his own sponsored youth movement.

  23. ferron says:

No, not again, not even for 15 bucks/hour! I remember when he left, it was a great day for ALL Habs fans around the world and I don't think "I" have what it takes to go through this again! To who ever said he(Brisebois) was reliable defensively, you(modko9) obviously ain't an Habs fan or maybe just a new one.

  24. highdrogrizz says:

We used to call him breeze-by for a reason..i mean COME ON..i used to play the wheres brisebois game. Every time the oposition scored i would look for him, and he would be somewhere with his head own, leaving the ice. Bob better have bigger plans because this could be the greatest flop in his tenure. I mean there are gambles, and then theres brisebois.

  25. habsrock99 says:

There's also a reason as to why his "Breeze-By" moniker was dropped the year before the lock-out. A +17 rating as well as being one of the Habs best defenceman that year. Don't get me wrong, I never liked Brisebois but once Gainey got the fans to shut up for a while, Brisebois showed what he could do and did it for a a full season. He even carried it over to the year after the lock out in Colorado.

  26. habsgod says:

blue and white you idiot! if we sign brisebois that tells us that there could beand most likely will be a deal of some sort with a defenceman going the other way! marleau will be a hab! and not a  make me laugh!!! and thank god for that!!! at least marleau playing for us he will win a cup in his career on the otherhand, playing for the make me laughs he would be just like any player(s)that have played for in the past 43 tears or currently he 'd be cupless and a loser!!!!and he'd take shower lessons from wendel(tollers bum buddy) clarke! clarke's  aloser!!!!!!!!!

  27. bleedingblu says:

Looks like the Habs are going backwards.

  28. habsgod says:

bleeding blu your an idiot! the habs aren't going backwards there not the make me laughs!!!!!!! that is a team and a franchise that is going backwards…………no wait they have been for 43 years and still are stuck in reverse!!!!!!!!!! so before you come on a habs sight  and make idiotic comments think before you speak!!!!!!!!!! don't go off at the mouth before the brain engages!!! moron! remember this gods team rules(the habs) before you reply remember this god doesn't cheer for losers!!!!!!

  29. habsgod says:

highdrogrizz this signing or potential signing by gainey says he has something else up his sleeve a major deal involving a defenceman!!!it might be a good depth signing you see, all the teams and organizations that have won the cup in the past would do this kind of signing it adds depth and expience to our back end if darcy reiger or those clowns in toronto would do these or realize this they would have won a cup by now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i know its brisebois but sometimes the risk is worth the reward!! this is a gamble that i think will payoff down the road!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. PeterTheGreat21 says:

and just think, this version of briesbois your getting is now older and slower! even better.

  31. Milohabs says:

Everyone who says Brisebois sucks is a fool.
Fact, he's only had 2 bad seasons as far as his +/- is concerned (look at Souray last year). He is gifted offensively. The key with Brisebois is knowing how to coach the guy. He can NOT be a #1 D man and play against top lines, this will lead to another disasterous year of a -20 or so rating. IF he does sign, Carbo needs to use him on PP and as a 4-6 d man. This would also mean trading one fo the others to make room for some sort of trade. right now the habs have 8 D if you count O'Byrne

  32. PeterTheGreat21 says:

I feel bad for the hab fans if they re-acquire this bum. The guy's a disaster on defense anymore. People like to say the avs had a porous defense and they did. And guess who was the worst of the bunch? yea you already know and guess who was a -7 in 9 games during the 06 playoffs? The avs couldn't wait to get rid of him and turgeon. Both played well at first after the lockout but showed in the playoffs why they should retire and then confirmed it last year. Hopefully hes just going to be your 7th defenseman cuz he doesn't deserve a starting job.

    and he cant fight http://youtube.com/watch?v=aT6LMhuWyac&mode=related&search=

  33. habsgod says:

qnd he’s still better than defencemen on the cryers!!!

  34. habsgod says:

qnd he's still better than  most defencemen on the cryers!!!

  35. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

hey and while they're at it the sharks will trade chechoo for boillion, and thornton for Kovalev right.

Marleau will be a shark next season, and dandeneault will be a hab.

  36. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

the leafs have four 5-6 D-men, and not one will be traded. injuries happen, depth is important.

  37. canuck67 says:

Are you sure Marleau even wants to go to MTL? I've heard that Col almost has a deal set for Marleau, but don't quote me on that, probably just a rumor!

  38. habsgod says:

canucks67 i've heard this rumor quite a bit  about marleu to the habs! so where  there's smoke there fire,as they say!! i think marleau would go there for the last year of his contract which would be this season and wether or not he resign is another thing because he'd be unrestricted at the end of the season! so that's why if the habs make a deal to acquire marleau you'll see that they pick up a conditional 1st rd pick or a prospect for insurance in case marleau leaves via free agency!!

  39. habsgod says:

  40. TheHabsEnthousiast says:

I still can't believe this is true..?..Come on Bob!
He was so often outplayed.. even the games I saw him play for Colorado..

I will allow Bob to make the guess that the back surgery he had last year was something really rejuvinating that might allow him to play better defense in the future..or at least, just a little defense..

  41. baltic_thunder says:

Sad. Last I recall was how Breeze-by-Brisebois was booed out of town. Now they are willing to have him back at the expense of a 'youngblood'.
