I agree, but Luke Schenn has played 2 full NHL seasons. Eller has yet to play even 10 games in the NHL and he's 21. But anyway, I see your point.

My mistake then. I was going on the fact that he had very high expectations coming in but hasn't yet cracked the line-up. But some good players take longer to develop of course.

I am happy reviewing some of the comments on here that some do udnerstand and appreciate the logistics of this trade. To the others who thought this was awful, here is my positive spin.

Of course, Halak was the better of the two goalies. I will never dispute that. That being said,

Halak's value in a cap work is probably at its peak right now. The Blues can go to arbitration and if things don't work out at the end of the year, he is gone UFA. Expiring contracts are a valuable asset in the cap world. Please review the Phenuef trade in that regard for Calgary.

As for the habs, if halak goes to arbritation, he will easily get the high 3's low 4 mill a year and most likley, will leave the Habs UFA the following year or in a trade where his value would be less because he no longer the other teams choice to retain his services for at least another year.

Price will resing for a much cheaper contract and be at the very least, above average, providing the teams plays a ssound defensive collapse like they did in the playoffs. Remember, not to discredit Halak for his heroics but the D allowed very few second chances during the long playoff run.

As for the players coming back, I am happy Gautier truly beleived that the habs got lucky to make it as far as they did in the playoffs. The habs are thin on size and grit. The prospects coming over both play with a little edge and should help Montreal long term without breaking the bank. Now the habs have some cap room to resign Plex (if that is their wish) or obtain a big centre (we can only hope) to address the glaring size issue. Even if they resign plex, they will have a little flexibility to make some other minor tweaks. To be honest, I would not be suprised to see the Hammer go for a 3rd rounder or less. Hammer is solid but just think of what we can do with an additional 5 mil come free agency.

Welcome to the cap world people. Montreal wants to ensure the pond in Hamilton is stocked becaause those hard working entry level players go a long way regarding your financial flexibility.

i agree with others, eller is not a bust. that statement is way off base. its like saying luke schenn is a total bust. give the kid a chance!

People throw the term "bust" around so loosely.

Eller has played one season in North America so far- as a 20 year old- and he led his team in scoring. Peoria was shit, but he still produced. My god, give him another season or 2 before saying he's crap.

Considering the cir*****stances, he's had a good first year.

Tlusty is over a year older than Eller. Also Tlusty looks like he has hit a wall, where Eller led the craptacular Rivermen in scoring. On a better AHL team his #s would have been better.. not a guy on that team broke even 20 goals.

If the planets align, Dale Mitchell might make it as a Alex Burrows type, or, more likely he may never play in the NHL (just like Schultz).

But I digress, this is not enough of a return for Halak.

ya but Perron is a French Canadian, and is a better goal scorer.. As a HAB fan I'm tired off these Europeans.. If they couldn't have got Backes, they should've tried to get that first round pick…I don't understand why every trade MTL makes is lopsided… I can't remember the last time they actuallly made a good trade.. If thats all they got offered for Halak, just think what teams were offering for Price…. Plus maybe Halak wanted out, so it was a no brainer for Gauthier.. I just hope he can get Plekanec signed..
