Not that I think the Leafs should target Penner, but are you sure it wasn't that Burke just couldn't afford to keep Penner at the offer sheet salary given Anaheim's financial situation at the time?

Thing is I don't think the Flyers are done tweaking their defense, they want to be totally stacked on the back end, and Carter is the odd man out up front unless they move Briere which isn't going to happen.
Throw in Grabovski for somebody, anybody, and move Finger to the minors and sign a free agent winger, if it was Marleau I'd blown away!!
I'd love it if they got Patrick Sharp for Kaberle as well, but I really believe one of these things will happen.
Ulmer was talking about Kaberle,Grabovski for Sharp,Campbell.
We would be taking on Campbell ridiculous salary, it would hurt us moving forward but might work out as well.
I hope they get Carter though, that would make my day.

The Oilers need to dump salary, so I could see them trading Dustin Penner, (much easier to move than Souray or Hemsky) I don't know if Burke would be interested in him, but he has about the same salary hit as Kaberle, and the Leafs could take someone like Ethan Moreau off their hands as well for a pick.

Dallas has lots of interesting young scoring wingers. James Neal, Jamie Benn, Louie Eriksson but I suspect he's an untouchable.

Too bad they re-signed Ott, I would have loved to see Burke sign that guy.

I think James Neal is a realistic option, as Dallas needs a puck moving defencemen. There is the Nieuwendyk connection to the Leafs and Kaberle. The sticking issue – which exists no matter where he's traded – is that Kaberle only has 1 year left on his deal. So it might take something else – like Kaberle and a mid-level prospect for Neal or Neal and a mid-level prospect for Kaberle and a higher ranked prospect.
