Am I the only one who see’s this as a smart move?

You bring Hasek back for 1 more year, unload cujo and his 8 mill and when all the cba garbage is worked out you’re clear of both of them. You either go with Legace for 1.1 mill as your starter or go out and get another free agent goalie because by that time with a cap or luxary tax in place the salarys for all players will undoubtedly be down. Even if no one wants to trade for cujo you can put him on waivers and with the goalie situation in the league right now someone will take him and you’re free and clear of his remaining 2 yr 16 mill left. And if not then just buy him out and let him go, the buyout money will have no effect on the team once the cba situation is resolved and you’re still clear of them both.

First of all, I dunno if this is official.

Detroit getting swept was NOT CuJo’s fault. How can you blame a guy who did not let in so many goals when the whole rest of the team couldn’t score?

Detroit will get next to nothing for Cujo… if Hasek comes back Cujo will be just another guy who makes a lot of money that teams don’t want.

Philadelphia would LOVE to swap Leclair for CuJo… Can’t see Detroit doing it though.

Look for him to go to Colorado for like a defenseman prospect and mid-round draft pick at best.

Your forgetting about Manny Legace. This guy could and should be a starter for any team in the NHL the way hes played the last 2 years. With CuJo gone and Hasek back in a Czech Rep. jail in 2004, Legace should be the man.

Joseph is a very good goalie and he didnt play bad for the wings, but the fact is in EVERY game in the playoffs he let in one bad goal. Thats all anaheim needed. you cant blame detroit, the reason cujo went there is the same reason they are looking at hasek, commitment to winning.

And as a Leaf fan, I love that joseph will have bad karma no matter where he goes

remember when roy thought he was big shit and got his ass kicked twice by Mike Vernon and Chris Osgood. That must suck to have to say that you lost in something to chris osgood. Hmmm there was game 7 too another time roy got his ass kicked by the red wings.

legace should have the starting job he is awsome and is a very exciting golie to see live. That is why i support the Hasek thing beause Hasek wont be here for long and when he is gone then legace will be the starter. Now if this dosent work out and this whole Hasek thing was jsut some dude playing a mean trick on al of the red wing fans around the world then when cujos contract is up he wil probubly resign and then legace will be in for another long season or two behind the bench. I am just scared that legace is going to leave the wings next chance he has due to not playing.

I believe that Detroit should acquire the rights to Patrick ROy and bring him out of retirement. Then Marc Andre Fluery, and then Broduer. That way the wings can have a top goalie everyday of the week. LMAO

If CUJO goes anywhere it’s to the East. Why would Detroit take the chance of giving Colorado CUJO just so he could come back and bite them in the ass.

Philly or Boston would be the best bet. The Rangers would be kinda dumb to take him, when they have Dunham, Richter?!?, and Blackburn. I’d stick with what they have.

Leclair for CUJO will be one of the best offers that Detroit will recieve. Think about it, they dump CUJO’s salary and let Fedorov walk (Sign another free agent Center). Then take on Leclairs (restructered or Philly bites some) salary and then Hasek’s

Then Hasek’s gone after a year. Leclair is around for a few years. Legace becomes the man. Problem solved for Detroit. They lower salary. Get rid of CUJO and life goes on…

What no one seems to mention, is their going to be a layoff, or regeneration period so to say, about Hasek coming back into the league??? It makes me wonder, I am sure he is in decent shape, but I would like to see how he does early on, where ever he may go.

I think it would be cool to see the Avalanche acquire him, however the Detroit not wanting to help anyone else. Philly, at one time, was a possibility, remember when he was a free agent before TO, his agent showed up at his home, and he was wearing a Philly jersey, when he was told TO offered up a better deal, YIKES!!!

Bet Quinn didn’t like hearing that one…..”Hey, our guy cannot wait to come here, there he is in the Flyers jersey!!!” HAHAHAHA.

  10. bender says:

LMFAO, that was funny as hell, I never heard that story before.

ya, on the downside, I’m sure CUJo has a chip on his shoulder for Clarke’s biggest blunder ever. “Hey, we can sign any goalie we want, lets take the oldest guy we can, because he beat us in the playoffs.”

I think most of Hasek’s quest to come back, is for the whole challenging himself thing. He always seemed to love a good challenge.

Kurri, Oilers fan?? I’m from edmonton

It’s OK – no need to apologize (for being from Edmonton).

What’s all this nonsense about Cujo? Joe Camber’s rabid dog got hisself shot years ago……

Ahhh I wanted Robinson Too bad…. well… now i want Keenen who will most likly not be the coach… unless he’s waiting for them to fire him. But other wise Keenen or Sather thats it NO ONE ELSE!

I do not want CUJO… the guy is sooo over rated it makes me sick. And if Blackburn is going to turn out to be like a CUJO player (like they said) i don’t want him. CUJO CAN NOT WIN A CUP. Sather get’s him it will be his worst move. Someone hit this Guy PLEASE! AND IF HE DOESN”T SIGN LEETCH! I DON”T CARE WHEN< BUT IF HE DOESN"T, SATHER LOSSES MY RESPECT

Look, guys, here’s the bottom line, at the top of the post: The wings should sign Hasek.

    Why?

Okay, let’s go with skills. Hasek is better than Cujo, but has taken year off. Hasek is also older than Cujo. All things being equal, in a normal year, I’d take Cujo.

But this year isn’t normal. All those factors start to not matter once the CBA comes into play.

If the Wings keep Cujo and next season is the last before lockout, they then have an 8 mil goalie under contract for another season. Ouch.

Further, if there is an extended lockout, it’s likely that several of the Wings’ stars will retire. Do you think Lidstrom will come back from Sweden once he starts playing there again? Or how about the rapidly aging Steve Yzerman, or Chris Chelios, or Brendan Shanahan, or Brett Hull? Larionov will be gone, too. Even if we keep Cujo around on contract, he’s not going to have a team in front of him!

    But, if we get Hasek…

We get one last hurah going into the uncertainty of the CBA negotiations. He has what it takes to win the cup, we all know that.

If there is a lockout and we have Hasek, well, that was the last year of his deal! He won’t be playing after a lockout, at his age, and he’d ride off into the sunset, along with his eight million dollar salary. Also, with his retirement, once the NHL starts up again, we have financial room to find a goalie who will fit in with the new salary structure.

If there ISN’T a lockout, and this is key, we have to assume that some sort of salary cap or luxury tax has been instituted and teams must now tighten their belts. That’d sure be a great time to not have 8 mil tied up in a goalie, right? Like, say, a good time for Hasek’s contract to end and for us to sign a new goalie in the new NHL?

The no lockout, salary cap/luxury tax NHL seems like a really bad environment for a 8 million dollar goalie to be signed for another year with a no trade clause.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather have options (Hasek) rather than restrictions (Cujo). I really like the guy, and I’m glad the wings signed him, but if Hasek is seriously thinking of coming back, Cujo should be gone.

And, seriously, what Wings fan hasn’t wondered what Legace could do as a starter? If Hasek falls through, we have one of the better backup plans in the NHL under contract. (Remember Legace carrying Osgood a few years back?)

Who should the wings get for Cujo? Send him to Philly for Leclair, or NY for Lindros. The other teams lose high priced forwards and get the goalie they need. Then, let Federov walk, either way, then sign Hatcher and McCarty. Sounds like a pretty fierce team, to me.

    Yzerman-Shanahan-Williams

    Datsyuk-Hull-Zetterberg

    Leclair/Lindros-Devereaux-Holmstrom

    Draper-McCarty-Maltby

    Lidstrom-Dandenault

    Hatcher-Schneider

    Chelios-Fischer

    Hasek, Legace

Crap, that looks like a cup winner to me.
