Hasek to Return to the Wings?

Canada.com is reporting that the Detroit Red Wings are apparently close to signing goalie Dominik Hasek to another contract. HTR believes that it is absolutely amazing that the Red Wings are able to keep their players is such great shape for their age. If Hasek does indeed sign a new deal he will be 42 years old next season.

It is reported that the Hasek camp has made the decision to return to the Wings for the upcoming season and that an official announcement will follow within the next few days. Ken Holland should be quite eager to complete this deal as soon as possible as it will give him a better sense of direction for moves to make this summer as he has to finalize his defense core and add several forward to complete his roster.

Canada.com also provides some speculation regarding the salary cap and they believe that the cap will be at 48 million for next season based on a 5% inflation from last season.

  2. Mattay05 says:

I really hope they sign him. if so i predict another "fantastic" year where he looks like an all-star since he gets 4 shorts aganst per game, and then a lovely FLOP in the post-season where teams actually give a damn! lmao

  3. CaptainAvery says:

Whatever, can't see him winning another Cup anyways, the guys a pest, always whining at his team mates to get outta the way, flopping all over the ice, Hasek's a joke I think, I hope he retires.

i hope this isnt true, dom isnt getting better with age and definetly is not getting younger

Do you even watch hockey or are you just a kid? Your calling a 1.79 GGA  and  0.92 Save % Hasek had in the playoff a flop? You should watch some Wings games before talking then you might have a clue what your talking about

  6. dcz28 says:

LMAO this comming from a guy with the username CaptainAvery is too funny…most of what you said fits perfectly to describe that idiot Avery.

  7. dcz28 says:

Good move by the Wings bringing back Hasek which will give them a solid tandem with Osgood again and save cap space to re-sign their UFA's and maybe add a player or two to make the team stronger then last year.

There's a lot of ripping of both Hasek and Chelios here.  I'm not a Detroit fan at all.  In fact, they are the team I hate most.  But even I can't let that blind me to how great both of those guys played last year.  Hasek was stellar, and Chelios was steadfast and strong all around.  I wouldn't mind having either of them on my team.  The Hasek signing is a bit riskier, due to Hasek being injury-prone and due to his character, which tends to rub people the wrong way from time to time.  But still, he had a wonderful season.  I could see him getting a big raise.  Chelios used to be one of my favorite players.  I just wish he would have stayed with the Blackhawks!

I don't think many people thought at the beggining of this year that the redwings would make a deep playoff run, be first in their division, or be first in the whole western conferrance. Redwings will do just fine with Dom. Really he did help the redwings win more games than he lost for them. In the post season he made some great saves when called upon. Hopefully it's under or around 1 million. I'd like for the wings to sign another center/winger/defender. Just a wish list though. Not to mention there are plenty more great free agent goalies coming out in 08.

you realize if u based his numbers over 80 games hes a vezina winner right???

  11. tacitus says:

hate to break it to ya, but the wings chased Giggie outta the net during the playoffs and they also out played the ducks during the 6 games just some how lost. Hasek didnt flop, Datsyuk didnt choke, the Wings were not out played in any series.

  12. tacitus says:

Hasek made 1.8 mil last year with bonus's, if the cap does go up they can even give him a raise and pay him 2.5 mil. Ill take Hasek for 1 year at 2.5 then Giggy at 6 or Nabokov at 5.1 or Fernandez at 4.?..

Goaltending is very important, but teams with only a goalie wont win the cup see Vancouver. Detroit will have a good goalie with a great defence core and 12 capable forwards 2 of which are all stars. When dealing with a salary cap thats a pretty good mix.

  13. BruMagnus says:

you sir are clearly a moron.

Hasek's numbers were better than Brodeur, Fleury and Luongo's if you averaged him out to theirs. Much better in fact. 55 games won or so I think.

He was a STEAL last year. He should make $2.5 million minumum base salary, and upwards of $4-5 million in bonuses given how many games he plays and his performance.

  14. BruMagnus says:

    Boy! That's just ignant!

  15. BruMagnus says:

    I agree about Hasek.

Also, it gives guys like Howard another year to develop so that in two years time he can be an adequate backup to whatever UFA the Wings sign then, unless Howard is then ready to take the reigns.

  16. BruMagnus says:

This is yet again another superb signing by the Wings and proof positive of why they have been so succesful. Whatever Hasek's cost is, it'll be well worth it and far below what someone who puts up equal or lesser numbers, yet will be paid thrice as much.

It also gives guys like Howard another year to develop so that in two years time he can be an adequate backup to whatever UFA the Wings sign then, unless Howard is then ready to take the reigns.

  17. DazedandConfused says:

I have to believe Holland has something up his sleeve for 08-09, and the signings of Dom & Chris are stopgap measures.  Lidstrom will also be near the end that year, and I figure if I realize that so does Ken Holland.  The Wings were so close to going to the finals this year and except for the final minute of game 5 they probably would have.
