yea, erskine is basically inept with the puck. his best play is chipping the puck out of reach of anyone to an unoccupied area of the ice. theres a reason he has ZERO points this season. he wont replace niinimaa, supposedly the isles are bringing in a prospect. erskine may be the 7th dman, dressed when they need a fighter, or he might be sent to the AHL (think he still has a 2-way contract…), but i doubt he will be a regular.

Couldn't develop Erskine into anything? Don't kid yourself. It's obvious Erskine was just a throw-in for this trade. He is purely a physical defensemen, meaning a tough-guy. He is slow, takes bad penalties, and doesn't have good puck-handling skills. The Isles needed toughness and it's what they got in Erskine.

Erskine>Cairns, but only slightly better.

I too was miffed when I heard it was a second rounder, but seeing as how it will be a late second, I don’t think it will matter much.

Definately a good move for Dallas. Provides good DEPTH -don't forget, Niinimaa won't be asked to carry the same load for Dallas that he's had to carry for some of his previous teams. For the Stars he likely won't even be in the top three or four as far as minutes/game for defensemen...

Ahead of Niinimaa on the Dallas depth chart is: Zubov (having a good year); Boucher (further establishing himself as a top-pairing caliber player); and Klemm (old but solid in his zone).

Additionally, Trevor Daley will probably maintain a reasonable amount of minutes, as he's played well with Klemm for the majority of the season. Dallas management and fans are also rather high on Robidas, who's a super hard worker and reliable. Oh, and Dallas also has Skoula back on D, who has been something of a disappointment, but certainly still competent on an NHL team.

to those who can't read between the lines, this was done for 2 reasons:

1 - niniima wasn't fitting in on L.I

2 - milbury needs the 2.5 it freed up to make his next moves

next will be, the firing of stirling (i think before next monday) and another trade...

stay tuned.

ps - to those who keep writing this kind of stuff, satan is NOT going to be traded this season. get that through your heads. he is not on going to be involved.

bet on kvasha, asham, hunter, luckowich or parrish going.

GOOD trade for the Isle's. Erskine is definitely the kind of d-man they need. The Stars were never able to develop this guy into anything, as they never could with any of their defensemen prospects ever since Hatcher.

The Isle's get a tough defenseman that can hit, check hard... cover his zone well and give an attitude to Isle's Hockey. Exactly what they needed instead of a lame overpaid defenseman in Niinimaa.

Good deal for Milbury, i applaud him on this one. And a 2nd rounder too? Seriously.... duh? A no-brainer.
