According to the Calgary Herald and, the Flames and the Ranger are working on a blockbuster trade. If this will really happen, we don’t know. Here’s who will be moving:to Rangers- Roman Turek, Denis Gauthier and Josh Green.

to Flames- Dale Purinton, Jed Ortmeyer, Dan LaCouture, David Inman and Jamie Lundmark

This was updated on both sites on Feb. 20, so this good be a hype thing or has the chance to really happen. I think it may happen because the Ranger need a new goalie no doubt which I don’t know why because on paper, their goalies are pretty damn good.

So thats it for now. We’ll wait and see if it really happens.

  1. Kashin says:

and what is huge about the trade. and why would the rangers give up lundmark and ortmeyer.

  2. Bishop7979 says:

Yeah this is a real blockbuster!!!!

wake me up when a second line player, or a real starting goalie is moved. Cuz Turek isnt any better than Dunham

This was on spectors around the 20th, and it had this small comment attached by the guy who sent it in

“Cruickshank (herald reporter who first published it) reports the source for this one was MSG analyst John Davidson but he’s been “distancing himself” from it.”

    to which spector replyed

Spector’s Note: My thanks to “Tim” and “Ian” for sending this in. If Davidson did come up with it I don’t blame him for backing away from it. The Rangers would give up far too much and apart from Denis Gauthier would get far too little in return.

  3. thomas2984 says:

This trade is even more unrealistic than the one which would have sent witt, kolzig, and gonchar to the leafs…..It’ll never happen!!! What the rangers are getting in this trade is not worth ortmeyer, or lundmark alone……forget it….

  4. Wills says:

I was watching the Rangers vs. Montreal game tonight, and John Davidson was talking about how Detroit’s top scout Mark Howe was at the game scouting them and has been scouting them lately. He said that he talked to Holland and Holland said he wanted a top six forward. All this came after Kovalev was mentioned. Makes you wonder if the Rangers are about to start a fire sale. Davidson also said on the Hot Stove Saturday night that if the Rangers loss to the Canadians tonight to expect the team to start trading all their players away.

  5. d_only_Flames_Fan says:

    *crosses fingers*

  6. shady_records says:

    This is huge?

  7. AmericasteamRedWings says:

Yeah, I heard Pittsburgh and Carolina are swinging a huge deal as well:

To Carolina: Kelly Buchberger, Landon Wilson, Guilliame Lefevbre, 9th Round Picks in 2004 and 2005

To Pittsburgh: Rights to Jeff Daniels, 6th, 7th, and 8th Round Picks in 2004.

    (obvious sarcasm)

  8. RangerSteve says:

WRONG. Sather the dope already said, “I will only make a move without touching our future.” He should have said the Organization’s future cuz his ass shouldn’t even have a future after his players quit on him. The Irony of this, no offense to teh guy who posted, but his team traded Niinimaa and a pick for Dan McGillis!….Anyway, this deal doesn’t help NYR at all. Ortmeyer, Lundmark, LaCouture have been a great line for them and have shown up every night to play. Josh Green? He already was in and out of the line-up with NYR, no way he’s coming back. If this trade happens, I’ll officially stop being an NYR fan for the rest of my life. The seasons over, it’s been a long time coming to rebuild sned out these overpaid bastards to contenders. Mark Howe was at MSG tonight looking for a “Top Six-Forward”. Kovalev ring a bell anyone?

  9. h8rangers says:

Mark Howe was looking at Kovalev and Leech. As for this calgery traid I think ur missing a big name playr from the calgery side.

  10. h8rangers says:

Mark Howe was looking at Kovalev and Leech. As for this calgery trade I think ur missing a big name playr from the calgery side.

  11. rojoke says:

If and when Slats makes a trade, I would be shocked – no, stunned – no flabbergasted – if ANY of those players was involved in any way. I think he’ll go into full salary-dump mode and deal Nedved, Kovalev, Kasparaitis, etc. Not the pluggers or the prospects.

Case in point, Fedor Tyutin is up. If Slats likes what he sees, then you can bet he’ll deal one of his high-priced guys like Darius.

Ferguson, to Quinn: Hey Pat, I just got Kasparaitis.

Quinn: Don’t worry, John, antibiotics will clear it up in no time

  12. Sands says:

I heard this one 3 weeks ago. Not very new news if you ask me….. plus, it will never happen. the rangers are out of it… why trade for more? It won’t happen.

  13. GretzNYR99 says:

Yeah, I watched the game myself and JD did talk about it and when I heard Detroit, I said Kovalev before he could even think of it. They want a top 6 winger, and Kovalev fits what Holland wants. I think it will happen soon, Sather should stop holding onto a miracle (Credit to Sands for that one), and start rebuilding.

The thing is here… I remember the last time someone tried rebuilding in NY… and that man got fired. His name was Neil Smith. Will the same happen to Sather? I hope at least he gets kicked from the coaching position, keep him if he can make some good deals that will put us into a rebuilding process.

  14. GretzNYR99 says:

    Haha, I love it!

  15. TC_4 says:

Geez, I know Calgary can afford to move a d-man or two because they’re AT LEAST 8 deep, but there are very few in this league that play as nasty as Dennis Guathier. At the same time, Jesse Wallin gets brought up from the farm, Montador probably becomes a regular, and Dion Phaneuf is in next season. Add to that, your shedding approx. 7 mil. off your payroll, and your only bringing back about 3 mil. Oh, and I heard Jamie Lundmark isn’t too bad(just not too bad!). Pretty sweet deal for the Flames, but won’t happen.

  16. GretzNYR99 says:

If you ask me, Gauthier would be a future move, but I wouldn’t give up much for him but a 3rd round pick. Keep Ortmeyer and Lundmark, they’ll be apart of our future core.

  17. GretzNYR99 says:

While I don’t doubt that the Flames and Rangers are in talks, I doubt that this trade is happening. It has to be restructured, and Lundmark, nor Ortmeyer would be going. Maybe Stals or Hollweg. Josh Green? Makes no sense to bring back a player that publically exploited the Rangers lack of control up front. He’s on Slats’ shitlist now. Slatshole doesn’t like it when his authority is questioned, that arrogant prick.

Instead of “Fire Sather” it should be “Fire Sale.” After years, it’s time.

  18. Primis says:

There’s no doubt in my mind Turek and his salary will be moved but… this move certainly wouldn’t make the least bit of sense for either side so…

I’ve been figuring it would be the Hawks or Isles dealing for Turek.

    — Primis.

  19. ranger_fan says:

I think Mik covered this in his last article. It makes no sense for the Rangers. Now if Iginla was included… it might make it more fair but I doubt both teams would want to do it

  20. LeafyMcLeaf says:

That is not a block buster deal that is flop movie like gigli one good player and the rest is shit.

  21. Beckfan5 says:

You know I cant stand you most of the time but ill give you credit, “Fire Sale” would be a great chant at future games.

Just as good, if not better than “Refund”.

Or “Keith Van Horn”…………sorry, wrong team.

  22. Beckfan5 says:

Why would the Isles deal for Turek. They have DePietro.

  23. Beckfan5 says:

Todays Daily News reports that both Detroit and Dallas had scouts at last nights game w/ Detroit possibly wanting both Kovalev AND Nedved.

Good, take em both. Take Poti too.

  24. GretzNYR99 says:

    It’s ok, the feeling’s mutual… “Buddy.”

  25. GretzNYR99 says:

You know hell has frozen over when Beckfan5 starts to make sense.

Poti sucks defensively, but his offensive talents can get us a decent return. Good, let Detroit have both Kovalev and Nedved, those good for nothing primadonnas. Lets whine about having to play defense and go into the corners, wahhhhhhhh. Nedved having his future wife on the cover of SI’s swimsuit issue is really getting to his head. Time to give him a reality check.

  26. GretzNYR99 says:

I’ve heard that movie was so bad it made people walk out right at the start of the movie. So spare the NHL of the Gigli references.

  27. HabsNick says:

I’ve also seen the Habs vs. Rangers game yesterday. The thought that came to mind the most was: “What about your defense?”

God the Rangers’ defense is horrible! Even the Habs smallish forwards could stand unhindered in front of the net. Their passing play is also especially bad, you’ve got plenty of players that are dangerous when they have the puck, but they can’t pass it for the life of them. All a team needs to do is send two guys on the puck carrier as he crosses the blue line and all you get is a pretty safe shot from afar. Dunham wasn’t *that* bad, the Rangers can very well play with him, but the entire defense needs a change of diapers.

They should get Gauthier, but not Turek… they should in no way trade Ortmeyer, and Purinton is a keeper in my books. They could afford to lose Lundmark, so a Lundmark straight up for Gauthier sounds pretty good for both teams if the Rangers can somehow lose Mironov on their next road trip.

Kasparaitis : Waive him or something, you’ll at least take less penalties that way

Mironov: As i said, the team should give him a ticket to Tumbuktu on their next road trip.

Leetch: Stick a fork in him, he’s done. He’s still better than most of what you’re fielding but he’s losing his legs, and without his legs he ain’t nothing anymore.

They should work with De Vries, Poti (needs a strictly stay-at-home D to play with him though), Tjutin and Purinton and rebuild from there.

  28. GretzNYR99 says:

You hit it on the head of the nail.

I’d rather deal Poti and a low round pick for Gauthier. Kaspar has been great with us, he was tops in the league for defensemen in +/- along with DeVries (paired together). Since the 2nd half of last year, I think he’s like a +30 something in NY.

Dunham to me is having what Giguere is having this year. A great run last year, but a hangover year. Sometimes when players have career years, they have something like a hangover, and their play is bad the following year. Expectations, pressure, etc… they all lead to these hangovers, but it’s no excuse. Dunham shouldn’t be letting in the soft goals he did this year after the first 20 games, and he should be more focused. He wasn’t focused at all this year after the injury. As for the defense… what defense? It’s non-existant. Tyutin, DeVries, Kaspar, sometimes Leetch and Mironov. Leetch, Malakhov, Mironov, and Poti need to go, and on offense, Kovalev, Nedved, Hlavac, and Jagr need to go. Give Holik the C, and start over. He’s not afraid to say “We Suck.” We need that type of attitude and accountability in a highly authorized position. Let Messier be the new assistant coach, and bring Keenan back. Time to start over. Stop holding onto 94, and lets win another in the next 10 years.

  29. GretzNYR99 says:

    I’m just curious here…

What is so big about this trade? Iginla?

  30. Beckfan5 says:

Its been cold down here for a while bro. You should come check it out.

  31. Beckfan5 says:

What is Dunhams hangover from? Finnishing 9th in east last year? At LEAST Giguere won a Conn Smythe. Thats a bad comparisonn bro. Just like you threw in Theodore in the same comparison last week. Theo won a Vezina and the Hart in the same year, Dunham, nothing, ever.

Nick Fotiu is had a bad season in 81′, kinda like Lafluer in 80’after winning the scoring title and Con Smyth in 79′.

    Get the idea?

  32. madhippo says:

That dude was pretty excited to report this “monster” to everyone. I don’t see that trade happening in a million years (or at least with all those prospects leaving NYR).

I love Gauthier. I love the Leafs. Hmmmmm…..I know, I know, it’ll never happen, but I can dream!

  33. kidhenry1 says:

I love it too, but Karparminus won’t be much good to anybody until he’s fully healthy again. Not worth giving up what the blueshirts want for him.

  34. d_only_Flames_Fan says:

the only rights eaither of those teams are looking for arent jeff daniels, it jack daniels

  35. GretzNYR99 says:

Obviously, you haven’t seen Dunham’s numbers and weren’t watching the games last year. He held them in every game, and posted stellar numbers on a team with Swiss Cheese defense. They would have made it with a better defense. Dunham stood on his head, why exactly do you think he was the talk of the town then?

Read into it, you’re obviously clueless on the subject. Once you learn a little more, come back. Until then, keep trying, dipshit.
