Hurricanes looking for shakeup

The Carolina Hurricanes are scouring the market and are looking to make a major move to help their chances of making the playoffs this season.

The Canes have gone 3-1-1 in their last five games and currently sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division, which puts them in a playoff spot, one point ahead of the New York Rangers.
Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford has been vigorously working the phones, a source close to the situation told TFP, but has come up empty, thus far.

With three goalies on the roster, the Hurricanes are planning to move one of them, most likely one of Justin Peters or Anton Khudobin, as Cam Ward has returned from injury.

Rutherford would like to move winger Tuomo Ruutu and defenseman Tim Gleason, but their salary cap hits have made things difficult.

Some teams have called in about some of Carolina’s other players, such as young center Jeff Skinner, but talks have not yet gotten past that point, and may never.
