The Score's hockey blog made that exact comparison yesterday.

Crosby could actually hit 100 points if he continued at last years pace of 1.6 points per game. With 61 games left in would give him 96 points and add in yesterdays 4 points. 100 points. That would be ridiculous.

Reminds of when Mario Lemieux was leading the league in scoring and went down to injury. Pat Lafontaine passed him by, I think it was like 19pts or something like that .. with about 25 games to go.

Mario was being interviewed and the interviewer asked "so how do you feel about losing the scoring title to Pat?" He said something akin to "who said its over?" with a smile. He went on to win the scoring title. Ha!

I agree, hell if he can produce like he was last season before he got hurt he could end up top 10-20 in points. I would love to see him challenge for the points title.

Finally. Personally, I think he was holding back to get himself into game shape. I'm not sure he's going to be that far behind everyone tomorrow.

But this is a good thing all around. For Pittsburgh, the league and the fans.
