Should Garth Snow decide to cash in his team’s two biggest veteran trading chips, he won’t be without options. Point Blank has learned that several teams are preparing offers to the Islanders for Andy Sutton and Dwayne Roloson.

Sutton, a potential unrestricted free agent on July 1, is one of the best defensemen available in the trade market. If the Islanders do not re-sign him between now and the March 3 trade deadline, the 6-6 defenseman could net a strong haul for the rebuilding franchise.

Many teams are interested in Sutton, including…

New Jersey Pittsburgh Philadelphia Ottawa

Washington Chicago Colorado Calgary

San Jose expressed interest before opting to trade a second round pick to Carolina for Niclas Wallin and a fifth round pick, but will stay in play for Sutton. The Capitals, Senators, Blackhawks and Penguins are among many teams that have been monitoring Sutton closely at the Coliseum and at Islanders road games.

From chi: barker, sopel, versteeg. From nyi: roloson, sutton, 3rd rd pick

  2. dumbassdoorman says:

I think Chi could keep Versteeg in that deal. I only say that in them trying to trade him for some other assets.

  3. goldman says:

Isles will be looking for prospects or draft picks, no way will they want Sopel, he already played for the Isles, anyway he sucks. It would make sense if Mad Mike was still GM

  4. goldman says:

Isles will be looking for draft picks or prospects. Sutton is playing some good hockey right now, at least one huge hit every game, big body, blocks mad shots, will drop the gloves and has a pretty good shot. Good pick up for any team. Same goes for Roloson. Isles should get a good return if they choose to trade them. Being an Islander fan I hope they resign Sutton or better yet trade him then resign him in the off season. He has said he would like to stay with the Isles but you know how that goes, he'll sign with another team for 6 million and then he will start to suck.

They should start playing this sports players a lot less money, I liked all sports better when they played for the love of the game not for the money!  Let face it if they didn't play hockey where else would 99% of these guys get a job that makes half of what they make now?

  5. Dunski23 says:

How about Boston's Second (via Tampa Bay) and Marchand for Sutton. Boston's second (via Toronto) and choose from Sobotka, Lehtonen, and McQuaid for Whitney. Boston looks like

    Lucic       Savard    Whitney
    Wheeler  Krejci      Ryder
    Recchi     Bergy      Sturm
    Paille      Begin      Satan
(or something along those lines, if Whitney is more comfortable on the left, Lucic played a little RW tonite so… and Recchi has shown he can play both wings

    Chara    Morris
    Wides    Sutton
    Stuart    Ference
Boychuk or Hunwick as the 7th

Team isn't a cup contender per se, but it could certainly steal a round. I'm not big on giving up picks and prospects at the deadline unless the team has a legitimate shot at the cup (which I don't think the B's do), but I don't see Chirelli being stagnant at the deadline. I think it's almost certain Chirelli will make some moves, and those picks and prospects are the most likely trading pieces I'd say. If Whitney doesn't come to Boston I wouldn't mind giving up a similar package for Tkachuk….and was that along the lines of what you thought for Sutton or more? lol let me know it's fairly late… i'm fairly drunk and I could be over valuing Boston's pieces, and under valuing other teams pieces lol

I think the islanders would jump at this deal
You give up one 3rd, a UFA and a somewhat useful goalie and get a guy who you can either have play as your 7th or bary him in the minors
to get a nice forward to compliment Tavares, Okposo and Bailey and a nice offensive dman to play behind Streit. And both are young too.
Why you wouldn't want to do this is beyond me.
