Is Lafleur's son really Hockey News?

If you check a lot of the hockey news sections of many prominent websites such as Sportsnet.ca and TSN.ca, you’ll see a lot of credible, relevant hockey news pertaining to NHL players and NHL teams. You’ll also see a disappointing, non hockey news story about a former hockey legend’s personal life.
I’m not going to mention the actual situation because it is really none of my business and none of yours. However, major hockey news outlets have decided that Guy Lafleur’s personal life is hockey news… because he is a former hockey player.

This reminds me of the Theodore Family stories, and really have to wonder why the Sports websites post these stories as HOCKEY SPORTS news instead of leaving this sort of stuff to the dirt-on-your-shoe tabloids. I find it disrespectful to the players and their families.

Now, you may say to yourself, “What? Is what occurred not news to the public just because he is a legendary hockey player?” and I say, look back at my Theodore reference. “…because he is a hockey player?” I say this isn’t HOCKEY NEWS, not that it isn’t news. Want to read it up in the Entertainment section? Go for it. However, keep it out of my hockey news.

When I goto TSN or Sportsnet, I want to read about how Bryan McCabe screwed up again and costed the Leafs or how Latendresse could be benched in the Panthers game. I do not want to read about the personal life of a hockey player. I want to read about HOCKEY.

Thank you for my fifteen minutes on the soap box.
