Islanders firesale to begin soon

The Daily News is reporting that the Islanders are very likely to be “sellers for the cellar.” Some of the names that are likely to be on the move include Bill Guerin, Doug Weight, Andy Hilbert, Dean McAmmond, Brendan Witt and Radek Martinek.

It should not be overlooked that Guerin does have a no trade clause and would have to waive it before being moved to another team. If a deal is going to happen HTR believes that it will most likely be to another New York based team as Guerin apparently wants to stay in the NY area.

Apparently scouts from Montreal and Boston have been following the Islanders of late.

    FROM TSN (

"Sources tell TSN New York Islanders veteran Bill Guerin is willing to waive his no-move clause to accept a trade if the right opportunity is presented…  Guerin hasn't asked for a trade, but it's believed he has discussed his trade potential with Islanders' general manager Garth Snowand has acknowledged a willingness to consent."

I hate no trade clauses 🙁

Weight is injured and may not be moved because of that.

Add Joey Macdonald to the list of who's going.

Of the names you did mention, the guaranteed gone are: Guerin and Witt.

"New York Islanders defenceman Brendan Witt was suspended for five games Friday for an elbow to Toronto Maple Leafs’ Niklas Hagman on Thursday night."

The Isles will play 2 games before the deadline, leaving Witt to still serve 3 more with his new club (should he be dealt). Obviously, I don't think this will affect his trade value and I'd still expect someone to make a push for him.
