This team might not score a lot of goals next year, but they are going to be a pain to play against with Witt, Simon, Asham and Hunter

That’s a good price for a guy who can really make an impact in a hockey game. I’m a big Chris Simon fan, too bad he’s going to the Isles.

  3. Les-Habitants says:

A good gritty forward that will bring it every night. For 1-mil, one year this is a good deal for the Isles. Not only is he your typical tough guy, but has proved time again that he can put the puck into the net. He also respects Nolan a lot, which will only help build a good atmosphere in the locker room.

  4. CaptainDrizzunk says:

Asham’s heading to arbitration, and hunter is still unsigned…anybody know if they are going to keep both of them?

  5. CaptainDrizzunk says:

not too bad if you’re an isles fan!

  6. Peguiny says:

    YYYYYYYYYY HE SUCKS

  7. WangKumar says:

I think they are both expendable but I think if any isle is going to be on the move, it will be Mike York.

I like where the Islanders are going this off season. Simon has soft hands when he wants, but he isn’t paid to score you 30 goals. He brings a mental and physcial presence to the ice, look at what Crosby had to endure without an enforcer( Do I smell dOMI?). Regardless of the “new” NHL, Simon and the likes of Laraque still have a place in the NHL for years to come.

  9. CaptainDrizzunk says:

I’d like them to keep York and Hunter, Hunter had an off-year offensively but he led the team in hits…. I could see him turning it up for Nolan.

Asham has been a waste for too many years. Send him off after arbitration awards him too much.

Here’s the roster lineup for 2006/2007

    Forwards:

    Satan Yashin Bergenheim

    Nillson York Hunter

    Bates Sillinger Blake

    Simon Nokkelainen Asham

    in contention for a spot:

    O’Marra, Tambellini, Hilbert, Colliton, Comeau

    Defense:

    Zhitnik Witt

    Campoli Poti

    Martinek Bouchard

    rookies in contention: Gervais/Grebeshkov/Caldwell

Doesn’t look too bad on paper for now. . . minus yashin of course 😉

  11. BlueOrangeWhite says:

this more than likely spells the END of Asham, who is a restricted FA, and the Isles have not made him an offer.

  12. chaosbc29 says:

isles made him a qualifying offer he just hasnt accepted it

  13. JohnFlan22 says:

good signing by the isles for veteran leadership and depth. according to inside sources on the islandersmania forums isles are shopping york heavily and possibly entertaining offers with york and hunter as package for substantial scoring winger. also they are still in the hunt for Jan Bulis. If Bulis is signed as FA i would think trading both york and hunter may become more likely. Seems like alot less spots for the kids though then originally thought

  14. Islander45 says:

I could deal with York but Hunter give him a chance he could be a force.

  15. Islander45 says:

Hunter is not expendable he’ll score give him a chance and he was 3rd or 4th in hits last year. York oh well

  16. mojo19 says:

    totally agree

  17. Doctor says:

you can say that again.. a few times. nyr will eat you tho.

  18. Doctor says:

I hate players like Brashear and Domi. Big role players who have limited skills and bad, bad tempers. Simon is not one of those players. I’ve respected him since his Capital days because when he scores he makes it look so ridiculously easy. Have you EVER seen this guy on a 2 on 1 or a break away? He has very soft hands and never panics.

Then there is the other Simon. The one who will beat you. I actually wish the Flames did not let him go. I don’t want to see this african next year.

  19. Peguiny says:

yea, 1st thing the islanders should be doing is getting rid of YASHIN!!!!! than look at trades try to include him in a trade like

    TO FLAMES: Yashin York

To ISLES: Bag of pucks and a twinkie half eatin

    maybe asking too much?

  20. cecilturtle says:

Just what the Isles needed, more gritt. I think the Islanders could possibly be competative this year??? Neil Smith might have really solidified the defence with the signing of Witt and I dont see too many teams with more speed. Nice to hear about Sault Ste. Marie again. I have not heard anything about Sault Ste. Marie since Phil Esposito announced the Rangers games and used to bragg about each and every NHL player that played thier minors there.
