It'll make 2 Million dollars please, would you like an apple pie with that?

According to InsideHockey.com, Alexander Ovechkin’s team (Moscow Dynamo) has set their own price for the transfer of their brightest prospect…

”The NHL’s agreement with the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) has expired, and the timing couldn’t be better for Moscow Dynamo or worse for the Washington Capitals. The Russian Super League team that holds the rights to Alexander Ovechkin, the first overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, announced that a transfer fee of $2 million will be required for them to release him from his contract and allow him to join the Washington Capitals.”

holy shittt.. ovechkin might be traded..good

he’ll end up in a rangers jersey, and the rangers will eventually have crosby and ovechkin on the same line. hahahah

  2. movingfire says:

I would do the exact same thing….Why would Moscow Dynamo want their top prospect go for nothing.

  3. cgolding says:

    this is gonna be interesting…

    1. rookie contracts with looming CBA changes… how many teams will sign these rookies to big contracts before salary restrictions presumably are placed… will we see hold-outs?

    2. if there is a half season is the 2 mil worth it?

    3. he only has a year left with the dynamo, why not just let him play that out and then bring him over when you don’t need to worry about it?

  4. Enigma says:

    Detroit just signed Chelios

  5. hockeyscarfo says:

what if ovechin wants to leave russia haha and sign with washington… hes just tear up the contract jump on plane to usa

  6. tymart27 says:

Great, another old bastard on our team for another year while prospects rot in the minors. When will Holland learn. For shame.

  7. LeafyMcLeaf says:

You make a good point. This way the Caps will have a crappy season next year too and then they have Crosby and Ovetchkin. They can’t really do anything next year anyways.

  8. toto says:

WHY NOT SHIP THEM A FEW CASES OF VODKA. RUSSIANS ARE ALL DRUNKS, THAT SHOULD APPEASE THEM. YOU CAN ALWAYS THROW THEM A FEW PAIRS OF BLUE JEANS AS WELL AND ORDER A FEW MAIL ORDER BRIDES. THAT SHOULD STABALIZE THEIR ECONOMY. 2 MILLION DOLLARS…WHATEVER. NEXT THING YOU KNOW THEY WILL BE SENDING OVER THANK YOU NOTES ATTACHED TO BALLISTIC MISSLES THAT THE 2 MILLION PAID FOR. DON’T DO WASHINGTON, HAVE YOU SEEN INDEPENDENCE DAY??????

  9. 19Yzerman says:

Shame? What Shame are you speaking of???

  10. Lint07 says:

do0d, All-CaPS lOcK pOStS ARe LikE SOOooOO 1999!

    LOLz

  11. 19Yzerman says:

2 Million dollars?Fair enough. If a player wants to play in the NHL and 2 million Dollars is the price to be allowed out of his country then perhaps the player should have to pay it. Tell him it takes money to make money and send him the bill.

Sum of All Fears Ben Affleck said,”It wasn’t the Russians”

  12. Slavik says:

I would pay it, I am not a huge fan of ovechkin’s, I think people may have misinterpreted the hype, and be expecting to much from him. But a transfer fee of 2 million is worth it for a team that wants to build around him, at the very least they could negotiate to pay half and then take the other half out of ovechkin’s signing bonus.

  13. Lint07 says:

    Look at it this way:

If Martin Lapointe is worth 4M$, Mike Dunham 3,6M$, Arturs Irbe 2,5M$ & Jan Hrdina 2,4M$ then I think that 2M$ for the next NHL superstar is ”somewhat affordable”…

The Caps will pay, you can bet your house on it.

  14. habs_punk says:

ya, but there’ll be ovechkin’s contract and bonuses added onto that $2 million, he’s gonna end up costing the caps a lot of money

  15. Lint07 says:

Sure, but they won’t talk about the extra 2 Millions when he’ll be filling all the seats of the arena.

There’s no way in hell the Caps trade Ovechkin away. If they wanted to trade him, they would’ve done it at the draft.

  16. habsoverserver says:

The number is negotiable. The prior transfer fee was $200k. They do this for $1 mil and everybody is happy.

  17. Scoot says:

Seriously. Almost every time I read something you have posted, I am offended. Bigotry is STILL not in fashion.

  18. NYR-Rangers says:

lol i’m i’m a rangers fan too. i don’t think washington will give him up though.

  19. rojoke says:

    Get a clue!!!

Washington just waits for his Dynamo contract to run out, which I believe is after this season. Then they sign him, and Dynamo gets SFA in the deal.

Of course then, Dynamo, through the Russian hockey federation, will cry about losing their top young player for nothing. At which point, the IIHF will say, “Well you opted out of the transfer agreement. So suffer.”

  20. Viller02 says:

They probably wont. Russians have been pissed at the NHL for years for stealing their players… They know Overchkin is already big over here…

  21. markodj says:

it’s kinda sad that an idiot of this calibre is just another hockey-fan…

  22. markodj says:

if there is any kind of a work stoppage, it doesnt make sense for the caps to give the 2 mill…. first of all, the new CBA might reduce entry-level salaries for draft picks….. secondly, waiting a year allows the caps to get ovechkin for free next year (considering the kid is just 18 years old, waiting one more year could actually be good for him)

  23. NYR-Rangers says:

but washington is dumb and they will trade

  24. Scoot says:

The SAD thing is that 90% of his comments aren’t even about hockey! Some fan!

  25. Keith_Tkachuk07 says:

If Washington doesn’t wanna spend a little for the next Kovalchuck.. Then something’s wrong.. Paying 2 Mill to bring the next superstar of our game to Washington.. may result in anything better then a UFA signing that could happen over the course of the offseason..
