J.P. Dumont on his way out?

John Glennon reports the Nashville Predators and winger J.P. Dumont hope to reach agreement on a new contract but his rising value could price him out of their market this summer. Dumont is eligible for UFA status in July, and given GM David Poile’s intent to re-sign key RFAs like Martin Erat, Jordin Tootoo, Ryan Suter and Shea Weber, there might not be enough left to retain Dumont, who’s earning $2.5 million this season and is on pace for a 60-point season.I agree with Spector who says that given the priority rightfully placed on their RFAs, there might not be enough to keep Dumont in the fold, which will make him an attractive commodity in this summer’s UFA market.

However, if the Preds continue to slide, perhaps he will be traded by the deadline. Once again, I think Pittsburgh could be a good destination for this 29 year old, especially given his versatility in being able to play both wings, in addition to his playoff experience. The Pens indeed need more experience and guys between 28-33 should be wanted on a team bereft of them, especially over the ~40 year olds that are/were Recchi and Roberts.

However, I wonder how much he would likely cost to re-sign, and if he wants a long-term contract I don’t see the Pens offering him that unless it’s for a discount, which he likely wouldn’t take.

I agree BM. Dumont would be a good fit in Pittsburgh and he seems to play well in the Eastern Conference when he was with Buffalo. I'm still waiting for this guy to just break out and I definetly feel the Penguins would be the perfect fit, and he's starting to already with 8 goals and 8 assists in his last 11 games, good trade bait for Nashville if he chooses to not re-sign with them before the deadline.

IMO J.P. is clutch in the playoffs could end up being a steal at the deadline.

Bob dropped the ball on this one he wanted to sign in montreal and would take a disscount hope he doesnt make the same mistake go get him since ryder is obviously going to be gone your going to need a rw and rwing scorers are hard to find in the league GAINEY GO GET HIM WONT TAKE MUCH SINCE HE'LL BE AN UFA IF YOU DONT GET HIM SEND A MESSAGE TO HIM THAT YOUR VERY INTRESTED IN SIGNING HIM ON THE UFA SEASON

montreal has four wings who can score – kovalev, higgins and the kostitsyn brothers.  dumont is an upgrade over the younger kostitsyn but montreal has a more pressing need at center.

The sens want a top line forward and Dumont seem like a nice fit.Maybe Eaves for Dumont.

They'd have to give up a little more than just Eaves. Maybe a 2nd rounder as well.
