More Jake Gardiner Talk

Following back-to-back bad games resulting in a benching against the Panthers, Jake Gardiner’s availability has once again become topical. Nonis insists he’s not shopping Gardiner, but rival management sources say Gardiner’s name has been brought up by Toronto in trade discussions in Nonis’s search for a top-six forward.

At the moment, there doesn’t appear to be a trade fit that makes sense, so amid the growing frustration in Leaf Nation, Nonis’s plan is to sit tight, pray for good health in the New Year and do whatever is necessary to help this team keep its head above water.

Okay…What does he mean by top-six forward? There’s no point in dealing for another winger.

Also, what salary is leaving this squad?

I don’t get the top six forward thing either. Especially a winger unless you are talking about the likes of a Perry, Ovetchkin etc which would be an upgrade and just not happening. Then of course, as you said, there is the cap (which many like to ignore when it comes to trades).
Gardiner’s cap hit is only like $1.1 mil if I remember. What top 6 forward is he going to get for under $3mil where cap wise it might work?
