Jets' trade deadline wild card
There is one wild card still in the deck that could change everything about the Winnipeg Jets’ push for a playoff spot.
The NHL trade deadline, Feb. 27, could dramatically alter the landscape right around that precarious eighth and final spot on the ledge.
A free-spending team currently in the mix — Toronto and Montreal come to mind — could improve its chances by landing a so-called rental player from a team that’s given up on the playoffs but wants to at least get something for a player they may be losing to free agency, anyway.
What if Columbus wants to sell off Rick Nash? Or Anaheim is serious about trading Ryan Getzlaf or Bobby Ryan?
That could give some team a serious shot in the arm.
The Jets, who’ve preached the patient, build-for-the-future and through-the-draft approach, aren’t likely to be in the rental market.
