JS Giguere Re-signs with Ducks

According to Espn, JS Giguere has reached an agreement with the Ducks on a 4 year deal. It wasn’t reported how much, but I would assume in the 6-7 Million dollar range since that’s what he was looking for.I like Giguere, but I don’t know if he’s proven enough for a 4 year deal if in fact it IS worth as much as everyone says. He’s a good goalie, but some goalies have one good year and then drop off the face of the earth. Remember…Garth Snow took the Flyers to the finals…enough said

Good point son, Giggy is good and all but he def. isn’t worth 6-7 mil. Sure he had a great playoff run, but lets see if he can play like that on a consistent basis.

Actually, i sent in an article on this…and it specified that it was a 4 year deal, worth 4.5 mil the first two years, and 5.25 the last 2 years.

Thanks for the correction on the amount, but I still say he needs to prove he’s worth it, not as bad as I thought though..

im sick of everyone whining about js giguere. he is a proven goaltender. he is not a one year wonder you would know that if you knew anything about the mighty ducks. 2 years ago when the ducks had only 69 points and were last in the pacific division he had a better gaa than both martin brodeur and dominik hasek. anyone who knows anything about the ducks knows the playoffs werent just about giguere being on a hot streak during the season he had the 3rd longest shutout streak in about 50 or 60 years and he had it ended by none other than an al macinnis slap shot. he is not like a jose theodore he wasnt playing out of his mind he makes everything look easy because of his solid positioning he is for real and the other 29 teams in the league just like all his doubters will find out the hard way.

Good point. I don’t know why people see Giguere over Turco as the next Theodore, as Giguere’s been consistant while Turco had a breakout. Giguere was likely to be like Nabokov, but he signed before training camp. He is the real deal and with Gerber as backup, the Ducks goaltending looks to be awesome. They’ve also got prospect Bryzgalov as a third goalie, so they’re solid for a few years. That explains them not drafting any goalies this year. Giguere looks to contend for the Vezina this year, with a better defensive team (goodbye defsive liability Kariya, hello Selke winner Fedorov) and a team with better offensive players, he looks only to get better.

Turco will likely be the next Theodore, without Hatcher. But we’ll see. Also, now that Jiggy’s got $4.5 million, expect him to get about 5 and very soon.

    He’s getting 4.875 million a year.

in other news…magnus arvedson has signed a 1 yr 1.5 million doller contract….very good move by vancouver.

  8. mikster says:

He ain’t worth squat unless he uses realy goalie pads, cheap shot artist. One playoff season and thinks he is top 5 in the NHL. Hope he has a horrible season.

  9. distance7 says:

I don’t hope he has a horrible season, but I really don’t see the Ducks getting as far as they did last year. They lost a ton of leadership by losing Oates and Kariya, not sure if they lost Stumpy….let me know on that one. But, even if he has a great year it still won’t be as good as last year, the team just isn’t as good and he’s going to have to work harder. He’s a good goalie, but Tomas Vokoun could’ve done the exact same thing he did, so could a couple of other goalies on other teams. Sean Burke is better than Giguere when he’s healthy, and I resent comparing him to Theordore of Montreal. Someone said Theordore had one fluke year? That’s BS if i’ve ever heard it. The team was full of bad spots last year, I’m not a Habs fan, but they’ll make the playoffs this year if Theodore is healthy.

What are you, a Wings fan or something?

Anyway, Giggy has always have good numbers, last year though he was finally able to display his skill.
