Keith Primeau's season over

According to

Keith Primeau will be making his decision has to when he will annouce he will not be coming back this season. We all know Clarke gave him until the end of the Olympics.

I was really hoping he would come back this season but with his announcement, it will free up cap space so Clark can go out and try and get another scorer and defenseman.

I for one would love Clarke try to get Keith Tkachuk or Olli Jokinen. Either one of them would give the Flyers insurance just in case Forsberg goes down again.

Wish Primeau the best and hope to see him next year.

Clarke has alot of youth he could part with right now. He also has a ton of draft picks in next year’s draft. I know he picked up a couple of second and third round picks at the 2005 draft. That means he can either trade those picks directly, or he can trade his prospects and restock at the draft. I just don’t want to see them give up Carter, Richards, or Umberger for a rental player. If he could resign Jokinen, maybe give up Umberger, a prospect and a pick for him. I have no idea what other teams would be offering though.

No so much what other teams are offering, as what Florida is asking. My guess is a 1st round pick, a prospect and a young roster player.

Don’t laugh too hard. The Flyers are still a clearly better team than Toronto.

Exactly. If he can control his offensive zone penalties, i consider him an asset. Someone’s got to look out for the young guy’s when there’s a scruffle. Plus, every time he throws a big hit, the momentum obviously shifts in the Flyers favor, especially at home.

It’s a sad day, but I saw it coming.. Keith Primeau is a true captain and leader! He is a great guy off the ice, one of the true nice guys.. Probally one of the nicest guys i have ever met. I know for a while a lot of people bashed Prims for his lack of scoring in his career. Prims had a resurgence and showed that he is one of the best 2 way centers in the game today..

The loss of primeau has hurt big time this year for the flyers, along with all the other injuries this time has gone through. His leadership is greatly missed, however this does open the door for clarkie who over the past couple of seasons has made some wonderful moves, to go out and try again… I would prefer Olli Jokinen, he is younger than Tkchauck and would cost less and there would be a better chance of Olli resigning next year instead of just adding him for this season. I only hope that Clarke does not give up, Richards or Carter, It would be nice to keep R.J. as well but if he has to go, then oh well.. But for sure keep Richards and Carter..

back to primeau, i myself went through a battle Of pcs (Post concussion syndrom) I used to play soccer and hockey but was forced to stop when I had my 8th severe concussion and because of the reoccuring Pcs that would develop. My heart goes out to Keith and I hope he works hard to get back to the ice for next year..

P.S. The flyers are once again healthy, now only imagine where we would be if that was the case during the 1st half of the season!!

Sad another great player might be done with a blow to the head. Look ad Deadmarsh unreal player,Allison he came back but he’s not the same player and Lindors…….so for all the players i forget there are the olny ones i remember

  17. WYflyerfan says:

That isn’t even actually true. If a player falls and he is near by they call it on him. When actually he had nothing to do with it. I would say about 1/3 of the calls against him are BS.

I think a lot has to do with the thinking of the team as to what they think their chances are this year.

If they really think they have a shot this year then maybe take a shot at Tkachuk or even Sundin.

If they are building and thinking this year the injuries are too much to overcome then I say take a shot at Ollie. Give one of these kids his papers now ( just not Richards or Umberger, Carter just doesn’t seem to fit in with the Philly style as much as the other 2 do ) and let them settle into a new home and groom Ollie. Either way I like the benefit, as much as I will hate to not see Keith come back this year there is always next year and he can help groom someone like Ollie.

This is more of a couple questions then a comment to the post.

I have been unable to find any definition to the rules. Let’s say Prim’s sits the rest of the regular season and they get someone like Sundin to fill his spot and cap space. If Primeau comes back for the playoffs I am of the understanding that the playoff roster payroll does not count towards the cap. Is this the case? Is it the cap ( I forget the amount) can not be exceeded at any given point of the season? Does the fact that for 3/4 of the season he has been out can they use that money saved during that time to exceed the cap amount? When does a players money get freed from the cap restrictions? 15 days on DL or 30 days on the DL etc??

I love when the MapleLaff fans pontificate at how much hockey they know, yet they are stuck back in time and history. Quinn’s best years of coaching were performed when he was the Flyers coach in the late 70’s! The Laffs are about as hopeless as Philadelphia’s baseball team……going nowhere!!
