The new generation is over sensitive, coddled, and soft. "Wahhhh diversity! Fairness!" Don't get me wrong, diversity and fairness are good things, but today's society has taken it too far.

Did you know that in Oakville minor hockey the abolished the individual MVP awards, top defenseman, etc. The only awards handed out now are for top scorer, and top goalie (based on stats, not a vote). So its only statistical awards, no opinion. The idea was to get rid of the politics, but the reason it happened is because too many whiney mom's kept saying "what about my Billy? He's just as good, and he didn't get an award? This isn't fair! No one should get awards if its not gonna be fair!" And they ruined it for everyone.

Don Cherry represents an older way of thinking, but I admire a lot of the old culture in Canada. Listening to my grampa talk, I sometimes shake my head, but sometimes he raises really good points too.

End rant.

I agree it was good of him to as he put it, not take away from the two other recipients that night by being there.

Morally corrupt? A bit sensational, don't you think?

I'm no big Grapes fan, but I respected what he did. It was considerate move and probably pissed his critics (at the university) off more than if he would have accepted the degree.

Also, he "sets the [national] agenda" for hockey conversation? I rather like to think us at HRT do (Read: we only talk about the leafs).
