Is a Kelser to Anaheim deal done?

Kesler to Anaheim for forward Nick Bonino, defenceman Luca Sbisa and the 24th overall pick in this year’s draft.

    So who won this trade?

    • LN91 says:

Both, I cannot see a loser.

Critics will argue Bonino, but I would take Kesler any day of the week. A 1-2 punch of him and Getzlaf should terrify the entire GTHL…Both are extremely skilled, power forwards, who win faceoffs, and Kesler brings a defensive-edge to the Ducks.

Also, Anaheim did not self-destruct their squad…Sbisa did not play much last year and they held onto guys like Lindholm, Fowler, Vatanen, Silverfberg, Etem, Rakell and more.

Vanoucer…Got a 20-goal guy in Bonino, a solid option in Sbisa, and a late first.

Not a bad trade for both.

If it’s Bonino, Sbisa and Ho Sang it’s a good deal given Vancouver could hit a home run to replace a top six player. If Vancouver goes smart/safe they’ll take some stiff with the pick. They can afford to gamble with two picks.

I really like what Vancouver is doing…They have to rebuild, so they are getting value for some players (which will help down the stretch).

However, how can every team in this league admit/suggest that they need to rebuild except the Leafs? Every player here is somehow a ‘Damn Star’ and the core should stay together (a non-playoff core might I add).

    • leafy says:

There are 2 schools of thought. One is that the Leafs are rotten to the core and need a total overhaul.

The second is that the core is fine, but the lack of depth is killing the Leafs.

I don’t know man. I guess we won’t know until either the core is traded or more depth is added.

      • LN91 says:

There was depth problems for sure, but those were lines 2-4 on the offence…And tweaking is needed for the D.

I think their also needs a culture change and Phaneuf has to go, but everyone has opinion.

Ya interesting start for Benning, impressively active.

The big rumor is JVR and something else for the first overall pick.

    Nylander…Genious, love it!

    • leafmeister says:

I like it a lot. I hope he plays in the AHL next year. Some are saying that his ceiling is as high as any player in the draft. Defensive awareness and adequate responsibility without the puck can be taught, Nylander’s offensive ability can’t be.

Gunnarsson for Polak. Don’t really know Polak too well. Opinions?

  5. LN91 says:

Watching the second-round today on, they were gushing about Matt Finn for a couple of minutes.

  6. LN91 says:

…Leafs are all over the place this draft? Haha.

  7. leafs_wallace93 says:

Thought that was just an HTR proposal, Gunnersson out? But who will Dion play with??? Leafs better not be done.

If we can replace Dion with Boyle, bring up Grangberg, harmony with RHD and LHD, one less excuse.

I’m kinda happy to see the official end of the JFJ era with Gunner traded and Kulemin walking. Both good players but time to move on.

  8. leafmeister says:

Sources seem to disagree about Nylander’s height. Is he 5’9 or 5’11?

  9. leafy says:

Really glad Gunnarson is gone. Never a fan. Totally average.
