Komarov wants to play for Leafs again

Leo Komarov wants back in the NHL, and if it were up to him he’d suit up with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Now plying his trade in the KHL with Dynamo Moscow, the Finnish pest wants to return to the team he played for during the lockout-shortened season.

“I enjoyed it there, it was probably the best time of my life,” Komarov told KHL.hr. “I was really happy to play with the Leafs and I hope they are going to take me back, but you never know what’s going to happen. They hold my rights until July and I would love to get an offer from the Leafs.”

While he plays top-six minutes in the KHL, Komarov insists his diminished role on the Leafs wasn’t a factor in his decision to return to Russia.

“I’m not that kind of a player,” he said. “Everything was good with the Leafs and I really enjoyed it there. But I didn’t get the offer I maybe wanted, and I wanted to play a lot of minutes over here (in the KHL) because it’s an Olympic year and I knew that if I came back to Dynamo I’d get a lot of ice time. It’s hard to say really, I liked the team, the city, everything – coming back (to Russia) was a hard decision.”

I’d take Leo back. Although D’Amigo brings a lot of the grit and speed to that fourth line role. So it depends on if Leo wants to get paid or not. In all honesty, for the minutes he plays we’re better off playing some Marlie the 6-7 minutes a night at a $650K cap hit, rather than bring Leo back at twice the price.

I hear that but the team really seemed to have more of an edge to it with him in the line up last year. Maybe it is just me, but seems that way.

Komarov-Bolland-Clarkson…. Um, yeah I want to see that line in the playoffs.

Gleason is gonna help the Leafs. Good deal I think.

Like a predicted, a trade came. But I predict an even bigger trade.

    really solidifies the d-core i think. i hope the defense stays like;
    phaneuf – gleason
    gardiner – franson
    gunnarson – reilly

for the rest of the season. Not a fan of ranger. Also with all of the injuries, i would love to have komarov back. He was my favourite player last year and has the most heart and grit of anybody on the leafs right now.

Love the trade Gleason is the type of tough as nails but we lack. Can handle pressure knows what it takes to win and won’t be intimidated period.

Unlike some of the other guys the Leafs have had, he’s mobile…Great skater.

He was worn down in Carolina, but he won’t be as expected to contribute as much with Dumbeuf-Gunner on the top-line

do you try to see how phaneuf-gleason as a top pair is or do you leave gunnar-phaneuf? personally gleason on the top d-pair would be awesome if they click well.

    • Gambo says:

Why would Phaneuf and Gunnarsson be split up right now? I don’t care how bad people think either of them are, they’re a solid pairing for us and are playing really well.

I hope people don’t have the expectation for Gleason to be our savior or anything, it’s a goof pickup, but he’s not amazing.

I am excited to see him slot in against the Bruins eventually. Though I don’t know who comes out, I’ve actually liked Ranger recently and I’ve been one of his biggest critics. Rielly is amazing too. I bet there will be some more moves on the back end.

they are playing well, but you have to see if gleason could have the same chemistry as gunnarson, im sorry i know theres alot of gunnar fans on here but if gleason and phaneuf have just as good chemistry there could be a staal-giardi type pair there, and produces more fear into opponents down low then carl. Carl is good but nobodys scared of going against him in the corner. Just think you have to try it out at some point before players and see what we have here.
