Unless one or more of Weber, Subban, McDonagh, Fischer, or O'Byrne are being moved it would make for a crowded blue line in Montreal and Hamilton next season.

  2. intelligentscorpio says:

Letang is the only right handed shot in the defensiv arsenal of Penguins.Kovalev is a UFA at the end of this season. I doubt that Shero would trade him, however, we are talking about Kovalev. He is a game breaker.

unfortunately he can also be very useless at times…

if its just straight up letang for kovalev i would be surprised.

i can just see no one wanting this guy, supposedly he is like cancer in the dressing room and does not get along with the team and he also is playing realy bad, so i dont kno who would want him but being a leafs fan antropov has more value than this guy ahha he now has 20 goals and what does kovalev have? The habs will have to basically give him away or get very little return

  5. LEAFS_54 says:

i agree with you partially… i do agree the return for Antoropov and Kovalev will be suprisingly even or in favor of Antropov. but i do not agree with you saying that no one would want him. The guy has some of the best hands in the NHL without a doubt. to some teams he will be VERY useful and could be used for a strong playoff run.

After watching him the playoffs the last bunch of years I have noticed he can be the savior of your team, or kill your last hopes.  The problem is he can save you in game six and burn you in game seven.  You just never know with him.  He would not be my first choice at the deadline

  7. hockey_lover says:

Yeah, Im not so sure about this one.

First off, Kovalev is not the player he was last year… which is odd considering this is a contract year. The plus side that if he does come to the Pens AND they were smart, they would try to sign him for like $3m a season. He can potentially put up 35 goals like he did last year, which is a great bargain at $3M OR he can stink up the joint and the buyout will be low.

Secondly, if the Pens are serious about moving Whitney (which I have heard they are), they wont be moving Letang. They will need him to step up in a big bad way to fill the gap that Whitney leaves.

    If anything, I could see:

    To Montreal
    Ryan Whitney

    To Pittsburgh
Kovalev and a good prospect (call it as I dont know the Habs farm system right now

Montreal gets a huge step up from Schneider to be their PP QB who is signed for a few years at a decent rate

Pittsburgh gets a 1st ling winger that can produce in short bursts and a prospect to fill some voids in the system.

I think thats pretty fair, no?

  8. tacitus says:

why would montreal even want Whitney considering they already have Markov, Komi, Schnieder, Hamrlik as there top 4… Those guys should all be getting 22 minutes a game as should Whitney… do the math having a number 5 or 6 defensemen that is as good as any of those is useless when you could use the money somewhere else

  9. CrosbyMalkin says:

Wait. What? Whitney should be getting 22 minutes of ice time per game? You my friend are insane. Whitney is overpaid and over rated. Since he came back from his injury he is a MINUS 15 on the ice. Please tell me how that justifies 22 minutes of ice time.

Bring back up Goligoski and bench Whitney to send a message to Whitney that his lack luster play will not be tolerated.

  10. CrosbyMalkin says:

    sorry, forgot a NOTE****

Goligoski has been in the minors a week now and he still leads the Pens defense in scoring with 20 points. How do you send a player like that down when he leads your defense in points. That move was total B.S.

  11. intelligentscorpio says:

Letang is pretty young and will improve in all areas of his work as he gets more experience and time in the league. It is pretty sad that you expect him to perform like a Niedermeyer although he is only a sophomore.

  12. intelligentscorpio says:

Goligoski was sent down to the Baby Pens for reasons other than his performance. So your point about his points performance is mute. He was sent down to make room for Gonchar and also, he is the only one that does not have to clear waivers. I bet you any money that he will be back up after the trade deadlineif Whitney is traded away.

  13. CrosbyMalkin says:

It's not mute. I know why he was sent down. I just do not agree with it. I think it sends the kid the wrong message. I would rather see Goligoski back there than Gill or Boucher (sp?).

  14. nychabfan says:

I wish Letang for Kovalev was true, I would go for it immediately and even put in Subban or Fisher or somebody else, only to get Leatang, smart right hand shot with scills and good QB.Why Pittsburg would go for it is a huge question.
