Laraque to be traded

The Globe and Mail is reporting that Montréal Canadiens tough guy Georges Laraque has requested a trade. (Well that was on the Fan 990) In the Globe and Mail they are stating that he expects to be traded.

One of the factors that could make a trade difficult is the fact that Laraque earns 1.5 million per year for 2 years and is not playing in many games this year. “The coach has told me he doesn’t like tough guys, he said I’ll be in and out (of the lineup) until the end of the season.”

He states that ?”If I’m not important to the Canadiens, I will be for another team.”

"One of the factors that could make a trade difficult is the fact that Laraque earns three million per season"

FYI: Laraque actually earns 1.5 per for 2 more seasons.

  2. HABSSTAR says:

One of the other factors making a trade difficult is that he's spent most of the season injuried.  I like George but c'mon… he's pretty one demensional.  How does he expect to be in the lineup every night?

  3. dumbassdoorman says:

I wonder if he will get his wish? If so what do you trade for him?

  4. HABSSTAR says:

A 4th round pick.  Bingo, Montreal free's up 1.5 million for the next 2 years!

As a leaf fan i have to wonder if Burke will inquire about him? He definately fits the allowing our young players to develop in a fear free enviroment category….lol.

  7. LeafsNation91 says:

Laraques is the best-worst tough guy in the league…

  8. HABSSTAR says:

You would think that wouldn't you?  Thought the same thing about him coming to Montreal, but he's spent sooooo much time injured.  And he doesn't keep guys in line as much as you would expect, he's been a a disapointment in Montreal, but hey if he can get it going with the Leafs more power to them… I would gladly take Toronto's 4th Rounder for him.

  9. Kramer says:

I predict a big trade is coming very soon.

  10. LeafsNation91 says:

Don't forget all the dumb penalties he take…

    I'll give you a sixth
  11. greatlife15 says:

What does he expect? Time on the PP or PK? Being put on the nice down one goal with 2 minutes left? He's a tough guy that needs to stick to his role. 1.5 is pretty generous anyways for a 'tough guy'

  12. HABSSTAR says:

    Still a deal!

  13. habs79 says:

I was so disappointed when Gainey wasted $1.5 million a year for 3 years on this loser. Goons are done in the NHL, the rule changes saw to that. You have to be able to do more than fight now. Now Gainey is stuck with him, I doubt anyone would actually trade for him, or claim him off waivers. If Gainey wants to fix his mistake he will have to buy him out.

  14. honestabe says:

    How abot Laraque for Antropov????

On second thought, that's still a brutal trade if you're a habs fan…..

  15. Plekanec says:

I think Laraque only got into a fight 3 times this year, pretty good money if you think about it! Anyway too much money for a fighter that doesn't fight.

Laraque doesn't hit, doesn't fight, doesn't skates, doesn't score, but sure does a lot of *****ing and moaning!

He would look great in a Leafs uniform.

To Toronto: Georges Laraque, Kyle Chipchura
    To Montreal: Niklas Hagman

  18. GoLeafs13 says:

there is no forward on the Canadiens that is worth Antropov straight up.

  19. lafleur10 says:

only in your opinion! he's a stiff from the word go! and personally i wouldn't give you any of our forwards for him because all of our top 6 a better than this guy!

     kovalev plekanec kostitsyn
tanguay koivu   higgins/pacioretty/d'agostini! those guys are all better than him! you can argue and say what you want but he's nowhere near any of those guys!

  20. frogger10 says:

Wow you would take Laraque for Hagman? I guess with Chipchura it's potentially worth it. Haggy would be much more benefical for Montreal…

  21. Kyleton says:

I'm predicting there will be at least 10 trades within the next 7 days.

I'm gonna guess 21 as the extact number of deadline day trades (last 24 hours of deadline, not just until noon that day)

  22. Kyleton says:

Terrible dude… Hagman is one of the good pieces in toronto and one Burke is likely to keep.  Not to me mention he also has a NTC until the end of the season.

  23. Kyleton says:

Don't forget he's hosted Off the Record a few times.

  24. GoLeafs13 says:

I can argue that Antropov has more points than all of your forwards on a shit team.

  25. lafleur10 says:

yeah and where are you in the standings? if he's so good  then why are you guys a laughing stock? so before you call us a shit team take a look in the mirror and you'll see a shit team, the toronto make me laffs! he's a stiff!

  26. mtlman2005 says:

whens the last time u guys made the playoffs, let alone win a cup?

  27. GoLeafs13 says:

Here we go with the Canadiens fans living in the past again.

  28. GoLeafs13 says:

I just said we're a shit team. But he still has more points than any forward on Montreal and we also did beat you like last week 6-2.

  29. pezzz123 says:

I think Tanguay is better than Antropov, but he spent the last month and half injured, so I guess his value is pretty low.

Andrei Kostitsyn and Kovalev both are more talented than Antropov, but they have no heart, no desire, no fire, they disappear 3 games on 4 so they're shit. I'd take Antropov over them. But if Kostitsyn was a hard worker…watch out.

    Plekanec is a douche.

Antropov has a lot more potential than Koivu.

And Pacioretty is not there yet.

So yeah, Antropov is probably worth more than any forward on the Habs.

  30. HABSSTAR says:

Technically speaking, the Leafs not making the playoffs isn't the past… it's the present and future.

  31. CanadianbornPlaya says:

That is right, I wouldn't even give you Laraque for that bum. Neither can skate but at least Big Georges can drop the gloves.

  32. CanadianbornPlaya says:

And if you could just flukeout 10 more wins in a row you might be right along side of us in the standings, after we have been on a 10 game slide. I can't believe people still go to watch games in Toronto. Good luck against the worst team in the league tonight. You'll need it.

  33. CanadianbornPlaya says:

I disagree, Pittsburg would take him back maybe a few other teams. We will need someone to drop the gloves once he's gone. Begin, Kosto and Boullion have gotten pounded enough this year. You have to give them credit for going against all comers but they haven't done well in the policeman category. Teams are not afraid to take runs at Mtl players, our tough guys are not feared in this league, even with Georges in the line up. We need teams to expect to be flattened a few times when they come to play us. Komisarek hasn't really crushed anyone since the fight with that ape from Boston. Higgins could be tougher. Even the energy line can be described as scrappy, not tough or feared. I know Komi and Higgins aren't supposed to be sacrificing the body as much but we need to clean some clocks once and a while. Lapierre is showing some nice skill with the puck this year but his toughness has suffered. In my opinion he should be catching an opposing player at least once a game (head down, out cold). When players are worried about getting flattened they make bad passes and weak shots. Step it up Lapierre.

  34. CanadianbornPlaya says:

Why do people insist on MTL trading with the Leafs? Every potential trade that is suggested between these two clubs is foolish. Are these suggestions made to stir the pot a little? Rarely teams exchange players within their own division. Think about it, if I have the toughest (top 3) guy in the league and don't play him, then trade him away, he's gonna be pissed. So every time we see the Leafs (6-8 games a year) someone has to fight him. That's crappy in the locker room before the game. Everyone feeling bad for their teammate that has to go out and get his face rearranged because Carbo can't find a place to stick this guy in the line-up. He goes to the west, or keep him and make a package in the off season with him. I don't care if he sits, maybe he could use the time too learn how to skate instead of being a sauce bag. (Phoenix has a lot of youth on the way up, this is a good situation for Big Georges.)

  35. arigold says:

Nobody wants this guy.  What a stupid signing.  First of all, the Habs got roughed up in the playoffs last year, and in case anyone hasn't noticed, no one fights in the playoffs.  He's useless.  He's making way too much money for someone to take him on now, Habs are stuck with him.

  36. mtlman2005 says:

what you say doesnt make sense: You talk about Antropov having more potential then koivu, but then u say pacioretty isnt there yet…. HE HAS WAY MORE POTENTIAL!!!!!
    I love Antropov's "heart"…. sooo much better!

and before you say plekanec is a douche, how about you look at all the players on your team. I would rather have him (especially now), then anyone on your team…
