Latendresse to start the season with the habs
According to Cyberpresse.ca, Guillaume Latendresse who’s been the fan’s center of attention during the habs’s training camp will be starting the season for the CH. While Andrei Kostityn would be sent back to Hamilton for another season in the AHL, Latendresse would sign this morning his first contract in the nhl, according to the same source. It would not be for a 10 games trial as it was previously reported in the news that Guy Carbonneau, habs’s new head coach, stated that if Latendresse is to start season with Montreal, he would be there for the whole of it.
Latendresse brings to the habs the size and play of a power foward that has been lacking for a while now in their team.

oh goodie….now he can take runs at people during the regular season.
when will he be suspended?
Kastystin should be the one staying with the big club.
A long time after Kessel, of course.
why is kessel going to be suspended? he didnt give tim taylor a concussion.
I am suprised that he made the team as he really needs to work on his defensive game. I am pressuming he would play long Plex and Johnson while alternating with Perezhogin.
Will be intersting to see how he is used because I do not want him on the PK as Plex and Johsnon will be seeing PK time this year.
Personally, I think he needs to play on the first two lines but I would not remove anyone on those lines in his favour. Montreal does need goals and a power forward so I guess that is the logic behind it.
It's official… front page of RDS website this morning http://www.rds.ca … signed a 3-yr deal worth $850,000/year. I think its a good signing…a power forward, who hits, scores and has heart for that money, why not?!? He will probably play on the 3rd line with Plekanec and Johnson, and get some time on the 2nd PP line. Who knows, might even get bumped up to 2nd line if Samsonov plays the way he has been during the off season (which I know is usually meaningless..) If we could only get a good D-man, not Patrick Reverse… was a disgusting pick up, I hope Souray and Bouillon come back real fast! …
i agree ! however, i believe both can make the team, latendresse is dominant at 19, and kostysyn is nhl ready so send down downey and murray and we will be on our way to kick some leafs ass!
A real stupid comment…Have you even seen Guy's hit on DiMaio? It was very powerful but side-to-side, not cheap at all. DiMaio is not suited for the Big League anymore…
Kessel's gonna be suspended for sustained sucking reason, that's all!
just stirring the pot there guy.
too bad the habs dont have any young talent like kessel eh?
oh, but hey, you picked up an ex bruin that will do some sustained sucking.
Kessel may be a really great young talent but the has are very deep in youth as well. Not to mention if you like to live in the world of the present and future, have a better chance of succeeding.
Because he is an arrogant hothead that thinks way too highly of himself, and sooner or later it will get him into alot of trouble.
HAHAHAHA!!!!
I also assume you think the Bruins will be amazing this year…
Good one!
amazing? you take me for a fool?
better than the habs and leaves……that i can see.
and your reasons?!
Kostitsyn aint needed right now, we have enough small/quick players on the roster as it is, Latendresse, who is big, strong, hits hard, plays hard, is EXACTLY the kind of player we need
if we only have finesse players, all the big teams will just push us over
you make him sound like mike ribeiro.
why dont you cut the 18 year old teen some slack. dont buy into what you read.
i am so pulling for this kid so he can prove all the nay sayers wrong. and the b's can say thanks for letting this prize fall to fifth.
Finally…
IMO, i think he will give a new dimension to the Habs and he will be in the top 10 rookie of the year.
He really his talented, he his Steve begin with talent… evry shift he his on the ice, we know something will happen. And he his the first hab to go in front of the net on the powerplay since a decade.
I say he will make at least 50pts, 20goal.
damn, why didnt bob trade for jack johnson, we definetly had the depth to make a push for him!
So you're saying only Ottawa and Buffalo will make the playoffs in the NE…Very improbable but who knows, maybe you're right…
I can't believe you use that stupid argument now. Why don't YOU cut the 19 year old some slack! This post is about him, not about whiny Kessel, so *UCK OFF this thread!
You must be 12 years-old, I'm pathetic to waste even one minute of my precious time on you…
Probably cause Rutherford didn't want to play him several times a year…
I'm just as pissed as you (especially since Mtl was Johnson's team)
Montreal didn't have anything to offer to Carolina, speacily since JJ is staying in NCAA. Carolina needed immediate relief on the blue line, given the signing of Traverse, its obvious Montreal has got no one to offer on D!!!
Still, I wouldn't be surprise if Bob pulled a trade involving perezhogin, sourray and draft pick/prospect before the season starts
what do you guys think?
What do Kaigorodov, Latendresse, and suglobov all have in common. they're comletely overrated.
exactly what bob should have offered carolina….
although maybe he did and rutherfird said no.
Given up on Suglobov already eh? It must really suck to be a Leaf fan with no prospect of a bright future whatsoever.
please do a little research before you post stuff like that, the leafs have some great prospects, however a 24 year old ahl superstar isn't one of them. the habs, on the ther hand, have a bad system with a few bright patches. one of them being this years draftpicks.
actually, I expect a top 6 forward to be traded away (either Ryder or Kovalev, I'd rather see Kovy go personally) along with Aebischer for a big D-man
Yeah, the Leafs have so many great prospects that they are ranked #20 by hockeysfuture.com, while the Habs are @ #5. Now which one has the bad system with a few bright spots?
As far as a 24 year old AHL superstar in Sugbolov, what about Coliocavo? Aren't you all about to give up on him too?
Colaiacovo is a different situaion, he's 23, had unlucky injury problems, and is a defenceman. like i said before research isn't a bad idea.
Hoceys future waslast updated 6 monhs ago, and includes guys like Perezhogin, who arenot part of the habs "system" but rather a full time member of the club. Sice hockeysfuture was updated, the leafs drafted an excellent forward in Tlusty, and siged a few guys to fill the Marlies.
Kostityn was sent back to the London Knights of the OHL. It is though that playing on the top line and being ask to produse as the treams top scorer will do him better than going to hamilton
Hockeysfuture.com includes Tlusty and the Leafs are still ranked #20. Perezhogin is not included and the Habs are still ranked #5, in fact Montreal's new #1 prospect is Latendresse. Thank you very much, oh and don't bi*ch to me about doing research when it is quite obvious that you have done none yourself.
That would be Sergei, not Andrei.
Lines by December
Higgins Koivu Ryder
Sammy Plecky Kovy
Latendress Bonk Johnson
Murray Begin Laperriere
Komisarek Markov
Dandenault Liles
Rivet Bouillon
To Montreal : Laperriere, Liles
To Colorado : Rebeiro, Souray
Ok maybe im dreaming…lmao
kovy is staying, don’t talk trash about him
If Montreal sent him back to the minors, the French Canadian fans would have hung Carbs and Gainey.
Damn, I love the Habs, but their fans are relentless and quite often just cruel.
I must say though, it’s great to have a coach who actually shows some emotion.
I agree with you buddy, Guy L. is the type of player the habs have been searching for for a few years now. Kostisyn is going to come in next year when we lose Bonk and possibly trade Ryder. I can’t wait to see this kid hammer Darcy Tucker hahahahahaha!!!!!! Go Habs!
Oh man…. Oh… Oh man! Did I just see a hab fan say he would rather see AK27 go than Ryder?!?! Kovy wants to play in Montreal! Ryder I think does not. Kovalev played his heart out in our final stretch and in the begining with a bad knee. Man, if we didn’t have Kovalev we don’t have playoffs.
Ha ha ha! Nice! Leaf fans all have blinders on. You can’t blame him, probably a regional fan whos dad was a leaf fan cause they were close to home. Fans not basing their opinions on organizations with pride and commitment to winning. Don’t bring up the Patrick Roy sit., it was ridiculous and set the team back 8 or 9 years and we are finally picking up on hab tradition…. WINNING! =)
Kostytsin defenitely deserved a spot on the roster.
Personally I think its a gutless choice by Carbonneau… not that Latendresse is a bad pick by any means but considering he (Carbonneau) let everyone think he would keep the best and rookies would have a real shot if they work hard and play well, he showed he’s not a man of his words on this one…
Was Latendresse better or worse that Kostytsin ? who cares… real question should be were Latendresse and Kostytsin better than guys like Downey, Murray, Bonk, Perezhogin ? awnser : YES!!!
Instead of making the right decision (keeping both), he made the easy one… nice job!
http://hockeysfuture.com/orgrankings.php
no tlusty, perezogan is a prospect and it was updated april 5th. and if it was updated and both teams stayed exactly in the same place, it shows how useless hockesfuture really is because the leafs system has changed dramaticaly.
Latendresse looks like he’ll be a top line forwrd, and price looks alright however Cote needs more time, and its now or never for streit. Chipchura is at least a few years from his 3rd liner potential, and Kostitsyn should turn into a two way guy, with some offence.
the leaf system has about 11 guys who can one day be nhlers, the habs have about 9.
hey, toronto is 10 times the hockey city montreal is, and the habs have had a far worse record than the leafs over the past 10 years. Patrick Roy, Darcy Tucker, and now Theodore. the habs couln’t understand talent if it was stairing them in the face. I bet Ribiero gets 70-80 points if he’s traded.
you are dreaming. colorado won’t give up liles for a couple of overpaid pylons.
It’s not that far fetched… Konowalchuck-Retired, Tanguay-Calgary, Was Svatos the real deal ? Can Sakic carry this team on his back at 36-37 years old. Blake-Los Angeles. When i look at the Av’s D, I don’t really see anyone there that can lay a hit apart from maybe Vannanen if he can stay healthy. Anyways im just another Habs fan putting up silly posts
dont take this personally or anything, but you can just go straight to hell guy! I’m entitled to my opinion, wether or not you tell me not to talk trash about him!
Kovalev is a Puck Hogging player, so is Samsonov, thats just 1 more than needed on a line
my reasoning for wanting Ryder to stay more than AK27 is that Ryder does not need to carry the puck as much, there is also the fact that his value is higher, thus in a trade, we could get a better D by trading Kovalev than Ryder
and if you read what I said again, you’ll notice I NEVER talked trash about Kovalev
all of that colorado’s lost, are they goig to give up what ittle talent the have left.
