Latest Rumors from around the League…

Here are the latest rumors from around the league…All of the rumors below have been reported on

1. Ducks GM is saying that he hasn’t decided yet whether his team will be a buyer or seller come trade deadline. The Mighty Ducks have shown a lot of improvements the past few weeks. “I’m going to wait a week before deciding,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “I don’t think I will trade the core players we have, but if someone offers me two real good prospects, I’ll listen.”

2. Even thought his team has fallen out of the playoff race, Thrashers GM Don Waddell has said that he would like to make a trade by March 9 trade deadline. “We’re still in the market to add something that would help us not for the rest of this year, but for next year,” he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

3. The Ottawa Sun is reporting that because several players of the Bruins will become unrestricted free agents at the end of the year, the Bruins would like to trade away some of them. One rumor reported on the Sun saw the Bruins sending C Brian Rolston to Dallas for C Jason Arnott.

4. The Chicago Daily Herald is reporting that as many as 13 scouts attended the Blackhawk’s game on Sunday against Boston on Sunday. The most attractive player on this team remains to be Alexie Zhamnov. Detroit, Vancouver and New Jersey are thought to be most interested in the Russian star.

5. According to the Ottawa Sun, The Wings would like to sign star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom to a long term contract. Lidstrom, who is making $10 million this season, becomes a free agent at the end of the year.

6. Florida is looking to add a top blue liner and a faceoff specialist. The Panthers have Viktor Kozlov and Kristian Huselius to dangle as trade baits.

7. The New York Post is reporting that the Devils are interested in Anaheim’s Steve Rucchin, Calgary’s Craig Conroy, Carolina’s Rod Brind’Amour and Chicago’s Alex Zhamnov. The Devils will likely not trade top pick Zach Parise, but might trade David Hale, Brian Gionta or Mike Rupp.

8. The New York Times is reporting that with the Rangers presumably out of the playoffs, New York GM Glen Sather would like to move RW Alexei Kovalev and defenseman Brian Leetch. Other reports suggest that Matthew Barnaby and Chris Simon could be shopped as well.

9. The Canucks remain to be interested in Chicago center Alexei Zhamnov and Sabres defenseman Alexei Zhitnik. GM Burke is apparently dangling Jason King, Fedor Fedorov, and R.J. Umberger.

Today’s New York Post also claimed the Devils are about to get Gonchar today. Which I can’t see at all.

I don’t see Hale or Gionta being traded for anyone.

  2. gman says:

A Leaf fan posting trade rumors without any mention of the blue and white….interesting.

  3. cgolding says:

boston is one of the hottest teams in the East right now… if they become a seller in any fashion the owner should be lynched…

sadly the entire flyers team is decimated right now, or tonights game would be a great measuring stick for them with the eastern elite.

    nevermind the bullox,

  4. the_hockey_bandit says:

I don’t see the Devils getting Brind’Amour, his contract in Carolina is very restrictive. I do agree that Conroy or Zhamnov could be dealt, but I don’t know about the whole Devils getting them.

NY would be stupid to trade Leetch, although it would send a message to the rest of the team. Kovalev would be good trade with, he has not lived up to the expectations and they could get d-man for him.

The rest sound good on paper, we’ll see about real life.

  5. wingerxx says:

Speaking of the Leafs, they do need to do something about their defense. After watching Aki Berg’s performance a couple of nights ago….ouch.

  6. devfanman4 says:

I can see the Devils being interested in any of those players, but I highly doubt Gionta is going to be traded. He’s now 2nd on the team in goals (14) after his 2 against the Wild and half of his goals are game winners. Rupp will probably be used as trade bait, but they don’t have much else to offer anyone. It’s too early to give up Hale, but I can see them trading him if they player coming over isn’t a playoff rental. The best asset they have is to trade Ari Ahonen to a non-playoff team that needs a goalie. He can bring alot back as he should be in the NHL, but the Devils are set with Marty for the next 8-10 years.

  7. swedishvoice says:

Another rumor of a deal set to go down pretty sone betwean the Devils and the Pens…

The Devils will aquire Dick Tärnström and Alexi Morozov and giving up Adrian Foster, Jiri Bicek and a 3:rd and 4:th pic in 2005 and 2006.

  8. Beckfan5 says:

So Sather wants to trade Leetch, Barnaby and Simon, three of his most passonate and hardest working players. Greeeeeeeaaaaaaaaat. Another smart descion by Sather.

Whats the matter, those “Fire Sather” chants arent loud enough?

Sather; ” lets trade Leetch, Barnaby, Simon, deVries, Holik,Ortmeyer, LaCoutre and Lundmark, they work too hard and show way too much passion. But ill keep Nedved, Hlavac, Poti, Malakohv, Ruchinsky, Jagr and if I can some how get Carter back, well have a good team. Sign them to bigger contracts!! What do you think Jimmy Dolan?”

Dolan; ” The Knicks are good.”

I guess their looking foward to an eighth straight year of non playoff hockey? With out rebuilding im guessing.

So who should I root for next season guys?

  9. Habfanforever says:

dont worry, the Leafs will just trade him with future considerations for Gonchar and Pronger

  10. Beckfan5 says:

Is it me or is Zahmnov a little over rated? I mean, didnt he have one good offensive season? Like 12 seasons ago? In Winnepeg?

  11. nocuphere says:

Actually I think he’s averaged close to a point a game, he just never seems to play a full season.

  12. flyersfan82 says:

    Go with the Lighting

I can’t believe how good they are this year!!!

  13. bringbacktocchet says:

help. this team has done it with smoke and mirrors all year long with coach of the year andy murray but they are running out of gas quickly. in a huge match last night against dallas the kings d-men or should i say ahl monarch d-men cost us another game. i’m tired of watching these guys night after night make bonehead plays right up the gut or cross ice passes in their own zone. go back to manchester and learn how to use the glass. of course everybody wants roman’s head and cheered when he was pulled last night, but the fact is he held us in the game the first 2 minutes with BIG saves on point blank shots. the reason the kings lost was becasue of our d, not their netminder. davey taylor, get on the phone, stop waiting for miller to get healthy, for get anson carter, and get some help on d damn it!!! nashville made a huge one, san jose is slumping, and dallas just leap frogged out ass and we haven’t won in 5. what more do you need???

  14. swedishvoice says:

Yea I know… they are horrible… They cruched boath the Flyers and Devils (east powerhouses) this seson… I don’t hope the devils will meat them in the p-off’s this seson…

  15. trailerparkboys says:

Who was speaking of the Leafs?

    Bubbles out…..

  16. jerzjayme says:

    id love that trade

  17. swedishvoice says:

I just hope that they could pull it off… att fist the trade was only for Tärnström but Lou will demand that Morozov is included. It should be done by next week.

  18. greatlife15 says:

when there are leaf postings, people get, and when they aren’t they say it’s interesting, just shutup and sit down!

  19. NjDEVSFN says:

not fantasy…the Devils need someone to put the puck in the net, but theres no chance the Devils will trade Hale(because he is going to “replace” Stevens on D and is already as big as the Captain)…Gionta won’t be traded because he has 7 GWG(2nd in the NHL)

  20. GilaMonster says:

as a kings fan i hear ya,i know gleason and corvo have a lot of potential but potential is potential and they need time to develop in a couple of years they’ll be good d-men but we need some help now. and i have a few ideas we neeed a guy like luke richardson he makes about 2-2.5 mil a year and if columbus will eat about a million i could be done for like a 3rd round pick. our biggest mistake was letting boucher leave

  21. mojo19 says:

yeah! shut up and sit down.

  22. mojo19 says:

good one. habs fans are jelous that they don’t have a contending team and can’t speculate any stars coming to their team.

  23. mojo19 says:

and there would go the very very last of pittsburgh’s talent.

  24. mojo19 says:

well if you like hard-working guys. how about Calgary

  25. GretzNYR99 says:

St. Louis is the defenition of hard work. Tied for 8th despite being in a conference where competition is scarce, and having a plethora of injuries.

    That’s hard work.

Or San Jose, or LA. They both have had their setbacks, LA moreso with losing just about every player that’s played for them this season to injuries, and still being in the thick of things, jockeying for playoff position. Andy Murray and Ron Wilson, possible Adams winners. Same goes for Darryl Sutter in Calgary. Great, great job by Sutts with a team that wasn’t expected much of. It shows you… Sutter hockey wins if played right.

  26. AxisofEvil says:

Root for the Sabres!!! They are a young, up and coming small market team…..and their from NY so you might be able to catch their games on TV. Because we all know the Rangers aren’t getting any better
