Leafs, Rangers show interest in Cujo

Apparently the Toronto Maple Leafs feel bringing an old face in can possibly help the team out of its latest flunk, and you can also add the New York Rangers as well to the list of teams interested in Curtis Joseph.

Both teams’ goaltenders have struggled of late, and the problems in Toronto have been well documented.

The Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks already have offers on the table for Joseph, who is expected to make an announcement by the end of the weekend.

I'd say save the cap space, he left for Detroit over Toronto when they needed him, which started the mess with Raycroft. As much as I like Cujo, he couldn't save this sinking ship.

Yeah, there was actually a guy by the name of Belfour after Cujo left.  He left Toronto because the media was extremely unfair to him.  Game 1 of the series vs Ottawa, lost 5-1, the paper called him a Siv.  He went on to win the series, but i dont' blame him for leaving, he didn't deserve that.  He didn't want to leave Toronto, but he wasn't about to put up with having the media insult him.

I don't think he is the answer here, but as a backup, and considering the goaltending we've been getting aside from Toskala, he definitely wouldn't hurt.

The pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

This is completely off topic, but I am getting a little tired of the Toronton Maple Leafs rumours and struggles. I am a die hard Boston Bruins fan, and they are by no means a smart organization.

First of all I do not understand why more changes are not made, they seem like they can talk the talk but never walk the walk. sorry bad cliche, but it's true. It is quite obvious to me that Toronto needs to rebuild and become sellers now to do that. It is hard to think that way because Toronto can make the playoffs but who cares, they will never win the Cup or even come close. The team is a complete disaster and they look to the wrong areas to improve. Why get Joseph? So they can have 3 bad goalies under contract!

TRADE SUNDIN. I know he has a nt clause but why wouldn't he waive it. He could write down his teams and he would be a major asset to that team. Toronto could get a bundle for Sundin right now and if he has a boner for the Leafs then I'm sure he will end up there next season again. It is the John Davidson work of art theory! Toronto can get picks and prospects and still have Sundin next year.

The problem is Toronto settles for mediocrity. As long as they are in the playoff hunt that is all that matters. They would never accept a rebuilding phase, they would never give up on a year. Well. They are stupid not to. If they become sellers this year they can easily be contenders as soon as next year.

I don't buy the CuJo to the Rangers rumor one bit.  Weren't we supposed to get him a couple of years ago.  While Lundqvist has struggled a little bit as of late, he is the team's #1 goalie for now and years to come.  Really, who hasn't struggled on this team lately?  And Valiquette is a solid backup.  He's not great, but he usually gets the job done.  CuJo just wouldn't fit.  If the Rangers wanted a goalie change, it should come from within.  Montoya is a good talent that is lost in the minors.

What you just stated is probably the only reason why Sundin woul even consider a trade, to help the organization.  But saying he has a boner for the leafs?  It's something called loyalty!  Something that todays players are quickly forgetting about.  It's not always about the money or the cup, its about the team your on.  A good caption doesn't switch sides when their side is losing, the captain goes down with his ship!
