Leafy NHL Update: Olympic Trade Freeze Edition
There is bound to be at least a little activity today. I have plans, so I won’t be home to hear about it, which kinda sucks, but the movie starts at three, I’ll bring a radio. Before I actually get to the point. Steven Harper is officially my favorite prime minister, the Senators haven’t won since he was sworn in, the Leafs haven’t lost… (Sens are 0-2, Leafs are 1-0)
Jokinen could finally be moved to either Calgary or Ottawa, those two appear to be Canada’s best shot at a cup. Jokinen would probably help Iginla out in Calgary. I think Jokey would prolly prefer going to Calgary, for likely the same reason as Doug Weight, in Calgary they’re a first line centre, but the Senators have Jason Spezza.
Tyler Arnason for Nik Antropov? This deal has come up quickly and apparently could happen today, John Ferguson said a few weeks ago there would almost definately be a deal done before the Olympic trade freeze, he has 2 hours and 55 minutes. Arnason is a 20 goal scorer, and Antropov probably could be, but Arnason doesn’t have the injury problems.
Insider-rumors.blogspot.com has become a fairly popular blog lately, and it’s reporting Lang for Kolzig, I don’t know why the Red Wings would want Kolzig with Legace there, especially for one of their best players, Robert Lang.
The blog (and Bill Watters) is also reporting that Belfour and Sundin have had alot of interest. The blog has mentioned Roenick, and Richards for Belfour, and Bill Watters and the blog both have said Sundin and Belfour for Blake and Tanguay. The Leafs probably won’t get much for Belfour, I thought of Peca, because we need a good two way centre and he costs just about the same as Belfour, but of the listed, Roenick makes the most sense, in fact, is probably the only one that makes sense, because he’s a UFA this summer, the Kings are desperate, and he costs more then Belfour. I don’t see Brad Richards getting traded, they can re-sign him, they may be at about $38 million now, but the cap is being increased to possibley as high as $46 million, and his raise will probably be a $2 million raise, meaning it’s not nessicary to trade him.
Eklund as well as Paul McCann are reporting that Brendan Witt will likely be traded to the Predators.
With Forsberg going down alot, don’t be surprised to see the Flyers jump into the Jokinen race, no source on this one, pure speculation, but they have alot to offer for him. Probably more then Ottawa or Calgary.
Raycroft to Edmonton? Mitchell to Vancouver? Heard both of them hear and there.
