LEETCH BACK IN THE SHOW LIGHTS??!!!!

Boy oh Boy, I’ve been sending in post’s every week about Brian Leetch and the hope of him making his a return to the show lights…. His home, and where he deserves to finish his career is right here on Broadway.

ACCORDING TO THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS… His Return is very possible.Acorrding to John Dellapina of the NY daily news:

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/rangers/story/447899p-377096c.html

The door that appeared closed weeks ago is ajar again. Brian Leetch and agent Jay Grossman have spoken several times in recent weeks with the Rangers hierarchy – from Glen Sather to assistant GM Don Maloney and head coach Tom Renney. The sides have expressed mutual interest in exploring a way to get Leetch back on Broadway, but contract terms have yet to be discussed.

“Yes, we’ve spoken with the Rangers,” Grossman said yesterday. “But Brian hasn’t arrived at the point yet where he’s told me to go ahead and engage in what I would deem to be serious discussions with anybody.”

Leetch, a 38-year-old unrestricted free agent, apparently has made up his mind to play another season. The Rangers’ payroll is at $40.6 million, giving them wiggle room under a $44 million salary cap. However, the Rangers might decide to spend some of that cap room – making a Leetch return more difficult – by signing another forward to replace Jed Ortmeyer, who was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism.

The truth is. The Rangers owe Brian Leetch a chance to return home to retire where he played and grew with the fans that love him the way the yankee fans love Bernie Williams.

The Cap should not even be a question of if they can fit him in. The Rangers owe some of their cap room to this guy without a doubt.

Everyone has been asking the over past few months… where does Leetch fit in on this Rangers Roster… here’s the answer…. He fit’s in no matter what. The guy has bled Ranger Blue his whole life. Even if he comes back and plays a small roll this guy will be cheered every-time he touches the puck till the end of the year and his retirement.

So the Question is why would any fan not want him back… so he’s a or 8 D man… he doesn’t even need to play with any defensive pair. Just keep him as your extra man on the bench, DO NOT GIVE HIM THE “C,” and let him play every power play shift on the first Unit. With the heart he has for this team, and the way the fans will go nuts for this guy…. Anyone who’s seen him play in a Ranger jersey knows they will see him come to life.

    MOOOOOVE OOOOOON.

I hope he does go back to the Rangers.

He might have one last good season left. That’d be cool, to see the Rangers win the cup with Leetch. It would be a good way for him to bow out.

But I do think that he deserves the C.

  3. Bruins4771 says:

Really it doesnt matter where leetch signs. These posts are pointless. No one cares if he goes back to NY, PLEASE stop with these posts. That article said nothing.

If you really respect Leetch respect the fact that he is going to do whats best for him. I really doubt this guy, classiest guy in the NHL, is going to go somewhere to be an “8” dman. It makes no sense. Why would the rangers not want 4 mill in cap room for injuries. Just please stop.

He’s got more than one good season left in him…and let’s hope it is on Broadway. I have had the pleasure of meeting Brian both formally and informally..hockey related and non-hockey related and all I can say is that he is first class, and a damn good future hall of fame defenseman. I keep hearing the rumors so hopefully they come to fruition. Some talk like he is washed up…when all he can bring to the table is experience, consistency, a power play quarterback (one of the best…you don’t just lose that with age) and LEADERSHIP….all things that the Rangers need and/or can’t have too much of….

So I hope he does wind up back where he belongs…because the fans do care.

The fact of the matter is that the Rangers top 6 is set for next season. I’m a die hard Rangers fan, but this article doesn’t really address the reality of the situation.

I do NOT want Leetch back as a number 8 defenseman. That is ridiculous. That is almost a slap in the face to him. And I don’t think that Leetch would do it anyway. If he wanted that, he’d have been signed long ago. That idea is insulting. No, Leetch isn’t quite what he used to be, but he can still play. Having him as a depth defenseman is a complete waste of his talent.

In order to accomodate him, someone would have to be sent down to Hartford or be traded. Who do you justify trading, in order to make room for Leetch, when he’s not going to be around much longer? Who do you send down to the Wolfpack? Rachunek? He just came back over from Russia, do you really think that he came back to North America to play for Hartford? I didn’t think so either.

I admire and respect Leetch, and appreciate all he’s done for the organization as much as any Rangers fan, but this is a bit much.

The NY Daily News is a sensationalistic publication. Borderline tabloid actually. The sports section is descent and very large, but most of their speculation is B.S.

They assured NY that Kovalchuk would be in NY after the Post suggested the move, etc’.

I’m curious as to why the Rangers would even consider it. 38 year old d-man…on a young, fast team. Yes, I understand the leadership aspect of it and the mutual respect between the Rangers and Leetch, and the fans adore him. But I honestly don’t think he will fit in on this team. Kind of makes me think he should do what Brett Hull did last season playing on a young, fast Coyote team…RETIRE!

I have a deep respect for Brian, and it was a treat to watch him play for the Leafs while he was here, but I think the first post said it all….MOOOVE OOOON. It shows the true climate of the new NHL when it is almost September, and Brian Leetch remains unsigned.

Hell, even the Leafs bought out Domi and Belfour!

  9. nyrhockey094 says:

He has no leadership, he never was a leader, he never will be. Hes going to be the 8th dman, why are we going to sign him and prevent some of our younger prospects from playing? And thats a huge waste of cap rom at im guessing 2 million a season. WE NEED TO LET HIM GO. I would love to see him back on broadway but not at the expense of our prospects and our future.

  10. beckfan05 says:

What team keeps an extra D man on the bench? Does that mean that you dress only 11 forwards?

    Silly.

  11. wheresthesoda says:

haha, i remember that shhhht…when he was a restricted free agent, and brooks said the thrashers wouldnt bring him back

  12. I_hate_LA says:

Please post NEW INSIGHTFUL news, not OLD LAME news.

  13. Williams1505 says:

    Word…….he’ll prolaby only come back..jut to retire……boooooring!!!

  14. wingerxxx says:

Your first sentence needs to be re-thought. Quite a few players around the league have talked about how good Leetch is, in a leadership role. Last year’s hockey preview of The Hockey News had some great quotes from guys like McCabe, who looked up to him.

Just because he’s not as talkative as Messier, doesn’t mean that he is a bad leader. He doesn’t like the limelight. Leetch has always been the more quiet, lead-by-example type.

  15. Potvinstillsucks says:

    impossible

  16. Sands says:

yet the both of you idiots read it and post somthing about it… so like i say to every idiot like the 2 of you… My job is done.

  17. Sands says:

    why don’t you post anything?

  18. Sands says:

hey dude you know what Rachunek might not even be ready… coming back he could suck.. who knows.. he hasn’ played nhl hockey in like 3 years. OzO is not going to play this year.. maybe in Janurary but they already said he is prob out for a while. Rosival sucks dude and I’d deal him right now while he ahs value. Malik is awasome and would play better with Leetch. Staal might not be 100% ready… and thats about that. Bottom ine is Rosival sucks and thats the truth if you’ve watched the game’s he played. He was nothing without Malik. Malik I would not deal at all because when he didn’t play.. we lost.

  19. BlueOrangeWhite says:

Please read the Headline, and the opening paragraph that “Sands” wrote for this posting to start to understand what makes Ranger fans such annoying idiots.

They do not even realize how stupid they look and sound on a daily basis.

The world is such a better place when the Rangers suck, and their fans have to shut up and mellow down.

  20. wingerxxx says:

Roszival plays pretty well with Malik. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. He’s not a gamebreaker, but does it make sense to trade him for Leetch, who is not going to be around for long? No. Roszival does his job in his own end. That’s all I care about. You don’t know that Malik would play well with Leetch, but we do know that he and Roszival have good chemistry on the ice. And yes, I do watch every Rangers game. Roszival was not a weak link in the chain.

Staal is at LEASt a year away. He’s still very, very young.

Ozolinsh is so far down the depth chart, it doesn’t even matter, when it comes to him.

Rachunek got very good reviews for his play in Russia. Plus, he’s a younger player. He was already a pretty decent defenseman when he left for Russia. Why bring in Leetch for a year or so, and not give a guy like Rachunek, who has some upside, some ice time. It makes zero sense.

  21. wheresthesoda says:

i’m agreeing with wingerxxx on this one, as much as i love leetch, i dont want him to play as a number 8 kind of guy, I’m thrilled Rachunek is back, and Roszival and malik are great…if its not broke dont fix it…..100% agree with you on this one. Plus Rachunek is a right handed shot, giving the rangers 3 defense pairings of 1 right handed shot and 1 left handed shot.

  22. Pedro says:

damn im an idiot. Good post.

  23. wheresthesoda says:

your an islander fan, last season your GM was the teams back up, just for being a fan of that organization, you should shut up, and “mellow down”

  24. BlueOrangeWhite says:

    you’re a rangers fan.

it is commonly known in the tri-state area that rangers fans are thick headed, delusional, blowhards.

it is also commonly known in the hockey world that the islanders have been a more impressive and winning franchise over the last 36 yrs than the rangers. the rangers have won 2 cups in the last 50 yrs. and have been inconsistent to say the least.

please do not start debating the overall nature of the organizations (which is implied in your idiotic gm remark). the isles are clearly the better one over the past 36 yrs.

  25. big_booty says:

Rangers fans who continually pine for the return of Brian Leetch would do well to recall that it wasn’t until the team got rid of him that they actually started to improve.

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Leetch, as I’ve been constantly reminding people, has a lot against him. He’s old. He’s lost a step or two. He is way too error-prone. He is horrible in the corners and easily muscled off the puck.

Glen Sather shouldn’t make the Sandis Ozolinsh mistake again.

If that is exactly what the Rangers need then they are welcome to his services. As a Flyers fan, I’d love to see Leetch go back to New York – it would just make them easier to beat again.
