List of 10 players who could be on the move

TSN/s Darren Dreger is listing 10 interesting players who he feels could be on the move before the trade deadline comes to a close.

The list of players includes.

Kovalev, Cole, Pronger, Whitney, Jokinen, Bouwmeester, Antropov, van Riemsdyk, Kari Lehtonen and Ryan Smyth.

HTR feels that this crop of players who may be available could provide an awesome upgrade of talent for many NHL teams. Smyth has an abundance of talent and it was not long ago that he led the Oilers to the Cup finals, Pronger just won a cup with the Ducks and Ryan Whitney just went to the cup finals last season with the Pens.

HTR would like to know which of these players would you want on your team and what would you be willing to give up to get them?

So you're ten players do not include Niedermayer, yet you have his picture there…

  2. Steve362 says:

Book a flight for the following players…

    Antropov to pittsburgh

    Kubina and ponikarovsky to columbus

    Smyth to Edmonton

    Jokinen to Montreal

    Cole to Boston

Kaberle to Philidelphia (if toronto can take back some salary)

Bouwmeester & greg campbell to Buffalo…. for ales kotilik, tim connolly, 1st round pick

    Just some fun ideas….thoughts????

  3. ccrashh says:

The article states that Burke is looking for a 1st round draft pick for Antropov?  Lol.  Does he really think he is going to get that?

  4. pezzz123 says:

    god.

Pronger is NOT moving. He's the only d-men the Ducks have under contract for next year, so he will NOT be moved before this summer.

Whitney will likely stay with Pittsburgh. If they wanna push for the playoffs, they'll need every top-pairing guy they can play.

Bouwmeester is NOT on the market. Florida are facking 5th in the east, why would they trade their best player???

Van Remsdyk will be moved ONLY if it's for an elite player. Lehtonen is far from being elite, and isn't worth close to JVR. Makes no sense at all. JVR is a potential 40 goals 80 points powerforward, and you'll trade him for an unproven goalie?? Holmgren has proven to be smart, he won't make this move.

    Darren Dreger, you failed. again.

  5. GoLeafs13 says:

    ya he probably will

  6. dumbassdoorman says:

I agree with the possibility of most, Fla will want more for Jbo I think. Also not sure Philly needs wants Kaberle anymore, but never know.

  7. dumbassdoorman says:

If a 39 yr old dman gets a 2nd & 3rd even if a pick is coming back then yes he will fetch a 1st for Burke.

  8. dumbassdoorman says:

I don't think Lehtonen is unproven as much as injury prone. Also there are a lot of players who never pan out, JVR could be one. Doubt just saying nothing is a for sure. Though i think trying to get LeClaire from Columbus maybe easier, if Philly really wants a goalie. though he is hurt so that doesn't help now.

  9. Steve362 says:

I believe you HAVE to trade bouwmeester simply for the fact that you cant take the chance on losing your franchise player for nothing simply for one playoff push… they wont be looking for picks and prospects for jaybo… i think they will be looking for impact players now… in an article above i suggested Kotilik,Connolly, and a first to Buffalo for jaybo and campbell… but then again theres no telling what martin will do… i just think that in hindsight Florida will be looking at a first round exit and also losing jaybo to free agency in July…Obviously best case senario is that they sign him but i just dont see that happening

  11. mon167 says:

    seriously! lol

  12. mon167 says:

seriously, whats with the Niedermayer pic?

  13. LeafsNation91 says:

Antropov has 9 points in last 10 games, and 7 have been goals. He is really proving he can be a first rounder in his last stretch with the Leafs.

  14. dumbassdoorman says:

Maybe the Niedermayer pic has to do with what he decides about his future plays a part in Prongers?

  15. mojo19 says:

Antropov has 20 goals so far on the year, and he's the go-to-guy on his team. So his 20 goals are more impressive than Sykora's 22 in Pittsburgh where he has the top 2 scorers on the PP with him.

Last night on hockeycentral on SNET, Doug MacLean was saying that Burke should reconsider re-signing Antropov unless he can get a 1st rounder and a prospect for him, which he probably will. Antropov is probably going to score from 25-30 again this year, and he's 6'6" so there will probably be a bidding war for him.

  16. dumbassdoorman says:

A bidding war would be nice, but I for one am not gonna hold my breath. Though I can't wait to see what happens. Change any change will be good. Hopefully some picks built up and a strong draft. Then the future can be something to look forward to watching.

  17. RossCreek says:

I highly doubt Ryan Smyth is heading back to Edmonton. He left over a $100,000 per year difference (they offered him 5.4, he wanted 5.5). Bringing him back at 6.25 for 3 more years when he's already a shell of the player he was when in Edmonton doesn't make sense. He ia as OLD 33(as of tomorrow). It would be admitting a mistake had been made (which I do NOT think is the case). Unless Colorado was simply looking to dump him for little to open up cap space, I cannot see a return to Oil City.
No dice on the FLA trade either. Kotalik & Connolly are both UFA'a, so the Panthers could be left with a 1st for J-Bo & Campbell. No sense. No cents.
    The rest are possible.

  18. RossCreek says:

Just cuz Pronger is the ONLY defenseman they have under contract for next year, does NOT mean he won't be dealt. It's not like they'd be giving him away. For one, if they trade him, it likely means Niedermeyer will be staying for another year, thus signing an extension. And two, if Niedermeyer is leaving, they COULD still look at moving BOTH to restock their team on the fly and be ready to contend again next year. The ONLY way Pronger gets dealt is if they can add a high end young defenseman in a package including picks and/or prospects. If J-Bo doesn't get moved, do you not think that Pronger all of the sudden attracts a lot more attention? Even if J-Bo moves, a team competing with the team that aquires Bouwmeester may "step their game up" in order to aquire Pronger.
Florida cannot afford to miss the playoffs, nor can they afford to lose J-Bo for nothing. He IS on the market, but that does not guarantee he'll be moved. The thing is they need something that can help them now, not future picks and prospects. If they could land a guy like Kaberle in a separate deal and then move Bouwmeester for a scoring forward, don't you think that could interst them??
I agree that moving JVR for Lehtonen makes little sense, and the only way a guy like Whitney moves is if they land a contracted scoring forward (ie: Martin St. Louis).

  19. RossCreek says:

Oh… and the Panthers could always keep J-Bo for their run, and then move his negotiating rights (a la Nashville with Hartnell & Timmonen) at the draft. This way they likely ensure some home playoff dates AND get a pick or prospect for him.

  20. phillyfan33 says:

JVR isnt going anywhere if they trade him it will be during the summer because he wants to stay in college. the flyers want him to sign after his college season this year and if he doesnt he might be gone.

  21. greatlife15 says:

Supposedly there was a deal in the works that would send Goligoski and a 1st for Antropov. That would have been nice.

  22. greatlife15 says:

    What's the return for each?

  23. K-Mill says:

I would love to see Pronger in New York! Lets Go Rangers!!!!

  24. ncAvalanche21 says:

Like I have said before, Smyth will not leave Colorado this year or the next. Darren Dreger does not know what he's talking about.

Heres an article from the Denver Post written today with an interview from Smyth about the trade rumors surrounding him:

"Trade rumors are nothing new for Ryan Smyth, but the Avalanche left winger said he was caught off guard by some that have popped up involving him recently.

Smyth has a no-trade clause, and made it clear today he does not want to leave Colorado anytime soon.

"It's a little mind-boggling, obviously," Smyth said this morning from the Verizon Center, where the Avs play the Washington Capitals tonight. "I've got three years left on my deal, and I really like it here. Obviously we're not doing as well as we should be this year. We've lost a few key players who could really help us, but by no means are we out of this playoff race."

  25. RossCreek says:

Senators trade 1st round pick & Dean McAmmond to Islanders for Mike Comrie & Chris Campoli. Done deal.

  26. RossCreek says:

1st ronder is from San Jose.

    As per TSN.ca

  27. mozzy says:

If the Ducks get a soldi forawrd and defensemen ban in return under contrat, Pronger coukld be on the move.

Bouwmeester is on the marlet, simply because he is sought after by nearly every team.

Van Riemsdyk shoulf NOT ne traded…not for Lehtonen! That would be an awful trade. They need to wait on JVR and maybe package him i the future for elite talent.

  28. RossCreek says:

Olli Jokinen-Chris Higgins deal? Add in variables on either side.

    Jokinen & Morris
         for
    Higgins, O'byrne & a 1st round pick??

  29. Absolute says:

i hate when people think atropov sucks and isnt worth  a lot….he is not the next wayne gretzky thats for sure but he is a decent goal scorer and i think he can get the leafs a first round pick if not a second round pick + something else

  30. habs79 says:

Phoenix will be looking for more than that for Jokinen and Morris.

  31. RossCreek says:

TO BUFFALO: Ryan Smyth & Jordan Leopold

TO COLORADO: Jochen Hecht, Henrik Tallinder & a 1st round pick

  32. RossCreek says:

TO BUFFALO: Ryan Smyth & Jordan Leopold

TO COLORADO: Jochen Hecht, Henrik Tallinder & a 1st round pick

  33. Stubbs25ca says:

look at the guy in the picture more closely .. its number 25 Chris Pronger not Scot Neyidemeyer

  34. Burgergold says:

I dont think morris is moving out of phoenix

and I would be surprised that jokinen is coming to mtl

    but if it happens

higgins + obyrne + draft choice

  35. dumbassdoorman says:

Ya today it isn't but yesterday it was Nieds…..lol

  36. glotz_99 says:

ottawa basically gave up a 1st round pick for Mike Comrie!! are you kidding me of course they can get a 1st round pick for Antropov, be it a high first rounder probably 20-30th overall

  37. mon167 says:

they changed the picture buddy lol it was nieder
