Lots of Rumors in Florida

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel is providing a ton of speculation regarding the Florida Panthers. Although the panthers are saying that they are comfortable with their goaltending situation they are reporting that the Panthers have their sites set on Vesa Toskala and Bryzgalov who are both unrestricted free agents in 2008.

Another goalie who may interest the Panthers is Manny Fernandez however his large contract may be a factor as he is set to earn over 4 million dollars this upcoming season. Another tid bit of speculation that is mentioned in the article is that the Panthers are looking to sign a number of free agent forwards. Although they say that none will be big name players you can only imagine that the Panthers may want to fill the void left behind when Bertuzzi laws traded at the deadline.

Toskala and Brysgalov are under contract

  2. papichulo71 says:

    You mean RFA's

  3. mikster says:

I’m hoping for Bryzgalov, but it’s not a sure thing either that Martin will pull a deal. Anaheim has three defensemen that become free agents on July, and could work out a deal involving Montador or Mezei even.

The Panthers will not be looking at Gerber, especially not dealing Horton for Gerber and whatever other BS that Eklund spews about the Panthers and Horton. Martin made it clear that he will look to possibly make a trade, but no big name goalie, but feels confident with keeping Belfour, Auld, and Anderson.

mikster's note: Like he's done with previous teams, Murray will turn the Senators into a non-playoff team in a few years.
Unlikley considering that murray was the mastermind behind the Ducks team that won the cup

  5. LeafyMcLeaf says:

um… SHUT THE ***** UP! Giguere, fluke pick up. Selanne, Burke signing, Niedermayer, Burke signing, Pronger, Burke trade. Burke also brought in O'Donnell, Beauchemine, Wright, and Marchant.

Murray *****ed the team anally by adding Fedorov.

  6. Kashin says:

im wondering if the panthers will go have the brains to go after giguere or fernandez. toskala and bryzgalov are also good options.

They messed up big time with luongo and have now nothing to show for it.

They are a joke of a franchise. They and the blue jackets are the only teams not to make it to the playoffs in the past 5 seasons.

  7. wingerxxx says:

Sorry, but that would be Brian Burke that was the "mastermind" behind the Ducks cup winners.

Murray has never proven himself to be a solid GM.

  8. wingerxxx says:

Why Muckler was let go is beyond me.  The Sens didn't lose the Cup finals because of moves that Muckler did or didn't make.  They lost because the Ducks were simply the better team.

Sens fans should be very nervous about Murray taking over GM duties in place of Muckler.  I'd take Muckler over Murray any day of the week, if I had to choose a general manager.

  9. JuicemaN says:

And the real Leafy rears his ugly head as always.

Grow the hell up Leafy, when will you realize nobody here likes you or wants you to be here.  Either smarten up and have some damn respect for people or get the hell off this sight….I'm sure if we all pushed hard enough you'd be blocked from the site anyway.

  10. mikster says:

I’ll give him credit for the young players his scouts chose, but he put the team in shambles after that Cup Finals with Kariya and was so smart to have dumped Kariya because he was too expensive, yet overpaid to get Fedorov and Prospal.

Burke got the Ducks to the Cup, no doubt. Carlyle, Pronger, Niedermeyer, Selanne…he made it into an all-star team.

  11. mikster says:

Well, they were also rebuilding and just now Bo, Horton, Weiss, and Jokinen have recently started playing good hockey to lead them to the playoffs. Many teams in history have missed the pos-season for more than five years in a row, so…it happens. It’s a cycle.

Keenan was fired for the Luongo trade, and the guy has ruined teams wherever he ended up since winning the cup in 94.

Watch what you say because solid goaltending is all that the Panthers need to get into the playoffs. They did slightly better this year without Luongo too, so… be on the look out.

Sorry I havent been on here in a while but let me just say that I guess my sources were right on the Muckler or Murray thing happening I said at the beginning of the playoffs that if the Sens did not perform in this years playoffs that one of the 2 would lose there jobs and you guys said I was crazy. Buy the way I got a nice bonus for my article in the Toronto Sun about the Muckler and Murray things.

Now just some quicks hit rumors that have been passed around:

Ryan Smyth could be a Leaf as of the draft as there is an apparent sign and trade deal in the works. I don't really believe that this is true as the Leafs are in negotiations with the Dallas Stars about an apparent trade this rumors was first started by Eklund a week or so ago except he couldnt find out the team that was involved all he new was that it was someone in the Northeast Division I have a found out that it is indeed the Leafs. I've heard there maybe a trade involving Jussi Jokkinen or also a rumor anyways keep a look out as anything could happen this week.

    The Source.

  13. Kashin says:

yeah any team could make the playoffs next year and i wouldnt be shocked. at the time and now i would have rather have nash over bo and staal over horton. they didnt have to trade out of 1 twice. weiss has to stay healthy. who knows maybe they are a goaltender away. mainly what i was reffering to as a joke as a franchise is the past 5 years. i would have liked to have seen more out of weiss by now. bo is good but he has to take it to the next level soon. they have a few good induvidual players but as a whole im not impressed

  14. gambit101 says:

i think murray was on the losing team of ottawa and burke was the one that lead the team to the cup. and murray did nothing when he was there.

  15. Neely4Life says:

u realize murray bring in Rob, thats the only reason Burke signed Scott, so u can thank him for that too.

  16. Neely4Life says:

again, no way Niedermeyer signs without Murray getting his brother there too, and maybe Murray was planning that, before he took the job in Ottawa. (might be too much credit there). But that doesnt happen without Rob being there.

  17. mikster says:

Actually Burke re-signed Rob and convinced him to stay as he was going to sign Scott as well. Murray was letting the guy walk, that was his plan because Rob wanted to sign elsewhere at the time.

  18. mikster says:

Nash has never gotten his team anywhere near the playoffs and is too one-dimensional. I love the guy’s offense, but he only knows offense. I think Jay Bo has proved to have taken it to the next level. The guy is only 23, plays a crapload of minutes every night, has posted career highs, has made the all-star team, won the gold with Canada this year. He is becoming an all-star defenseman who will be much more effective for his team than Nash will for his.

Staal over Horton? Yeah, that i agree with but Horton is still a hell of a player and i wasn’t too impressed with Staal’s contribution this season.

Weiss will never be more than a 50-55 point getter, but plays a smart two-way game.

All the Panthers needed was a 7-6-1 record in November to have made the playoffs. They had a bunch of injuries with Bertuzzi, Roberts, Nieuwendyk retiring, Stumpel injured as well.

If things go well for the Panthers, as far as health, then they’ll make it. I am confident they will.

  19. Neely4Life says:

The fact Burke even had the chance to resign him is still due to Murray trading for him from Calgary.  And him wanting to sign elsewhere is just speculation, because i dont know how many times ive heard that about someone, and they sign exactly where they were before.  not sayin he wouldnt have, but there is no way u can give a definitive answer.

  20. Radio says:

"mikster's note: Like he's done with previous teams, Murray will turn the Senators into a non-playoff team in a few years. "

LOL. And his choices as GM of the Ducks had nothing whatsoever to do with them winning the cup this year. Right.

  21. hattrick44 says:

oh a leafs fan opening his big mouth too bad he dosent know anything outside of toronto and gigure a fluke sure u can say that but what all the young strong frowards on the ducks. Getzlaf, Perry, Penner all brought in by murray and i believe he the ducks to the final in 2003
