Not sure if you know, but in essence you are still wrong. NHLnumbers has Shanny's entire contract 5.3 million listed as a cap hit, actually 2.8 million would come off of next years cap because Shanahan is over 35.He is allowing more than half his salary to come in the form of easily attainable bonuses that can be deferred to the following season's salary cap calculation if need be. In addition everyone knows that Kasparaitis will either be waived sent to the minors. I can read fine. This would still put the Rangers below the cap, even if it's only by a little. LOL

Woooooooh there. Ok Lundqvist would be up there with Kipper, Brodeur, Luongo, and Giguere in my top 5 current goalies. (HM to Hasek, Turco, Miller, and Emery...bash away if you want). His accomplishments:

A) Made the Elitserin at age 18.
B) Won 2 Elitserin titles before the age of 24. (2003 and 2005)
C) Started on the Swedish World Championships team at the age of 22, won a silver medal and was named top goalie.
D) In his last year in the Elitserin he broke the records for GAA, Save Percentage, Shutouts, and Shutout Streak as well as winning the MVP, Top Player, and Top Goalie honours.
E) Was the Swedish Junior Player of the Year in 2002.
F) Was nominated for the Vezina as an NHL rookie (last guy I can remember doing that was Belfour...), was the first Rangers rookie to win 20 games since Richter, was on the All-Rookie team, and led the Rangers into the playoffs for the first time in 9 years.
G) Was nominated for the Vezina for the second straight year, was on fire down the stretch, and led the Rangers into the second round.
H) Won the Gold medal at the 2006 Olympics with Sweden.
I) If he were a rookie next year he'd still be eligible for the Calder.

Considering what Luongo and Kabibulin are making I'd say as a UFA he could have gotten into the 6 million range.

Well Hossa doesn't deserve much, no more than a mill, and avery could get about 2-2.5, which leaves room. Plus Hossa is expendable so he can walk if it comes down to that.
They've already cut into that number. Shanahans bonuses count towards that 5 million as does Kasparitis salary. They have less than $4 million to work with to sign both players. Which makes it pretty tight.

I don't get why everyone is so quick and high to praise lundqvist. I mean dont get me wrong he's good but i don't think he deserves the same money as others like Giguerre and Luongo at the moment. He hasn't proved that he is an elite goaltender. Maybe Luongo hasn't either but he is a bit more matured and is just entering his prime. Lungvist should probably sign like a 3 year $12.6M contract and by then and i think he will deserve the 6 or 7M.
They could sign and deal like what Ottawa did with Marian Hossa or they could do what Buffalo did with J.P. Dumont and walk away from the arbitration hearing and get nothing.
Most likely he will be in there but he is the only player, with the exception of Staal, in that group that does not have to go through waivers. So...i am being theoretical about it thinking that Callahan's salary does not have to count against the cap if he is in the minors.
