Luongo Turns down Florida's first offer

Roberto Luongo turned down the Panthers first offer of $30 Million 5 year contract.

”I just want to make sure we’re a playoff team for many years to come,” Luongo told the Sun-Sentiel. ”I don’t want to spend another five years here just watching the playoffs on television.

”It is a great contract for me, but No. 1 is winning a Stanley Cup and having success in the playoffs. After that, money comes second.”

Luongo tells the paper that he is in no hurry to sign a contract and since he is a restricted free agent the Panthers have the right to match any offer he receives after this season.

Could he want less and want the panthers to use the money on some of the free agents this off season?

NO more Cups for your fruitcake team in your life time buddy at least ill see the Canucks in there dynasty. There will be no more Montreal team in the next 10 years I bet cause there are to many queers in Montreal and they wont be able to support the team there cause all the fruits will be watching the ice capades. But I guarante there will be a deal worked out between the 2 teams.Luongo will be in a Canuck uniform by seasons end just watch.

I don’t know if he’s headed to montreal, but it seems pretty obvious that he wants to play for a team that has a chance @ the cup, and he doesn’t think keenen and the panthers are the team.

We all know that this time next year he’ll be with a new team, but I honestly can say there isn’t a team out there right now that is in the playoff hunt thay could take the kind of salary he is asking (assuming he stays in Florida and signs elswhere during the offseason), with the exception of Nashville and a few other surprises.

No Order execpt modin being last

    St Louis

And do u no anything about vancouver at all i agree with jovo being there best dman BUT KING BEING THERE FUTURE omg that a fuucking joke i cant even believe u said that

Finally, a guy who cares more about the game then the money!

face it, florida doesnt get it that this man doesnt wanna play for them and i dont blame him

    I’ll say it once…

everyone saying “read between the lines” or “luongo is just saying that out of respect”, really needs to read up on some more of his interviews. He just wants to make sure the team is actively trying to do something about their rankings in the lead. One of the biggest factors is whether or not the panthers get olli jokinen signed before the trading deadline (which he said himself in an interview). Luongo has shown no indication AT ALL that he is even thinking of other cities to play in. All his interviews indicate that he wants to make sure the panthers organization is taking care of business before he signs that deal. He will sign depending on how the panthers organization handles themselves.

So I know everyone is enjoying thinking up trades to send roberto to their teams, but I hate to burst your bubbles… Hes definitely not being traded, not even by deadline I think. And the only way he’ll be leaving florida (other than trade that won’t happen), is the panthers organization not showing that dedication (which I agree with both luongo and sun-sentinel write Dave Hyde they haven’t) in building a contending team.

    The End

  7. morrissey says:

Well that’s clear enough, he just doesn’t want to play there. It’s only a question of time before he’s gone, either by free agency after next year or before if Keenan wants at least something back. That said, the closer Luongo gets to free agency the less Keenan will get for him.

i was referring to auld being vancouvers future because he has shown to be a little more consistent then cloutier. and atlanta wanting to make that deal ya i agree they would jump at it but they shouldnt. lehtonen will be much better then luongo in the end.

interestingly, i had a reputation as a bad goalie with a good attitiude.

    ah yes, the beezer days.

Unless Keenan gets a deal that will knock his socks off, there is no way Luongo will be moved before the off-season. Then he will like he said see if Florida is going to try to be a contender or not.

  12. neilios says:

If you guys are saying he wants a chance at the Cup why would he want to go to the Canadians a more shittier team then the one he is playing on now if he really wants to play for a contender and wants to win a Cup this year he would wanna be traded to the Canucks.Plus the Canucks have way more talent and depth to trade the Panthers then a Zednik,Reberio, and a Bonk who you guys wanna trade so bad but no1 wants cause they suckass so bad.I cant wait to see Luongo in a Canuck uniform, and I been telling everyone how the deal is gonna go down.

    To Canucks-Luongo,Comadore,VanRyan

    To Panthers-Auld,Jovo,McCarthy,King,and Bernier

Not bad deal the Panthers get a couple good prospects better then the bums the Montreal fans been saying like Zednik and Reberio.

  13. TheWho says:

face it? lol that’s excactly what I said, that he’d rather play for a team that wants to be a contender instead of going no where.

  14. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

canucks may have better depth and talent on there roster but i would take montreals prospects over the canucks any day.

florida would be stupid to trade him to tampa bay, their arch rival. That’s like colorado and detroit trading players.

you are not a leaf fan stephen!

GO LEAFS GO – he did say that. i can quote it:

“GO LEAFS GO” – roberto luongo

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

  20. habs79 says:

First off for a guy that constantly claims Jovo is the greatest, you seem to be in a hurry to trade him.

    Second as for your prospects.

Auld will be nothing spectacular, maybe another Robert Esche.

McCarthy- Has not and will probably never live up to his potental. Already 24 years old.

King- Also 24 years old, and except for 3 games with Manitoba, doesn’t seem to have done anything at all this year. Is he injured or playing in a league below the AHL?

Bernier- Is already being pegged as being inconsistant with a poor work ethic, which would go really well with Keenan and Martin

So great prospects, the reason I bring up the age of McCarthy and King is cause they are only a year younger than Ribiero, who altough is considered lazy is performing at the NHL level. Unlike King and McCarthy, after you reach your mid 20’s and have shown nothing about all this so-called potential. You stop becoming a prospect and are either an average at best player or a bust.

If Keenan decides to go for prospects, he will land actual ones.

i meant to state a trade between florida and LA.. but im pretty sure they drafted tukonen like 12th overall last year.. it was somewhere between 11-13th at least

  22. Homunculous says:

Yes Tukonen is a Kings prospect(11th pick I believe), the trade might be a bit too beefy to give up for the Kings, sure what team wouldnt love those 2 but Gleason and Garon arnt slouches either, Grebeshkov, after some of his more atrocious games of late I might not mind seeing him go and Tukonen will be a beast in a couple years.

  23. neilios says:

Ill tell you guys a prospect that is way better then any of your Montreal fruitcake prospects and his name is Luc Bourdon now this kid is gonna be in the NHL for at least 20 years cause thats how good he is thats why the Canucks can afford to trade Jovo or Oulund but I know for a fact that Keenan would rather have Jovo in his lineup. You Canadians have a couple good prospects but they wont turn out to be anything great like a Bourdon like Chipchura he is just like the pussie forwards you have now Riberio,Zednik, and the list can go on for your guys is pussie forwards, and Price he aint gonna be anything special he will be like a Osgood I say and thats what most experts say too and that aint that great.
