Malkin suspended for semifinals

According to…

Russian forward Evgeni Malkin has been suspended for tomorrow’s semifinal matchup against Finland for trying to kick Vincent Lecavalier in yesterday’s game against Canada with 61 seconds left.

This is a pretty big piece of news to come out of Torino, that may be overlooked because of all of the noise being made about the US and Canada being knocked out in the quarterfinals. I have to admit, I did not even catch this kick attempt. Malkin didn’t have a great game against Canada, but he is clearly one of the top Russian talents. Russian players such as Alex Ovechkin, Alexei Yashin and Viktor Kozlov have to continue their solid play in order for the Russians to advance. The Finland players must be a very happy bunch right now, as this is a blow to Team Russia. Any thoughts?

wouldnt be surprised if they lose or struggle vs the fins because of this hes DEFINATELY one of their top 3 players

This guy is acting a little stupid like Kovalchuck did when he was younger. look out for the pens is a few years. Malkin, Crosby, fleury plus quite a few really good players under 25. i smell a dynasty in 3-4 years….if they get a new GM this summer. Pactrick is a idiot. If Malkin gets lots of ice time next year he will become a great player.

“hes DEFINATELY one of their top 3 players”

    Are you kidding me?

    Ilya Kovalchuk

    Alexander Ovechkin

    Pavel Datsyuk

    Alexei Kovalev

those players are way better then malkin

Someone should have kicked the rest of Team Canada in the ass.

  7. FoppaFlyers21 says:

    Go Finland!!!!!!!!!

  9. Maximus says:

    A little ego centric, eh?

  10. captainjoefish says:

Kovalchuck is still doing stupid things even now he still has too big of an ego but he is extremly talented. as for the pens they also have for defense guys like ryan whitney who will be great and noah welch who could develop into a strong defenseman

  11. captainjoefish says:

finland is great they are all smart players who are hard workers i would like to see sweden vs. finland and the finns taking the gold

    i agree go finland!!!!!!!!!!

  12. thegoalie1976 says:

Agreed. The pens will be a serious force for many years to come, if their GM does not screw it up this year, and the upcoming summer. They still have another very good draft coming up as well. mabey another #1 pick?

  13. SJ_Sharks_Fan_19 says:

so far hes better then Ovechkin! Kovalchuck Honestly what has he done? he has 5 points 4 of which were in a single game that means out of 4 games hes done basically nothing hes like what Iginla was on Canada

  14. SJ_Sharks_Fan_19 says:

Kovalchuck hasnt done jack shit this tournament he had a 4 goal game aside from that hes been invisible

  15. wingerxxx says:

“Better” is not the right word to describe those players over Malkin. Malkin is one of their better two-way players. Kovalchuk, with the exception of his 4 goal game, and been totally stonewalled this tournament. Datsyuk is currently playing with a gimpy wrist.

  16. wingerxxx says:

They are not way better than Malkin. They are really, really missing Malkin today. He is a key part of their PK, along with Yashin and Kozlov, and is extremely dangerous down low. He is also much better defensively than Kovalev, Datsyuk or Kovalchuk.

  17. wingerxxx says:

Russia is definitely missing Malkin today. A lot of that is that Russia is being absolutely slaughtered on faceoffs, and Datsyuk, with his bad wrist, is having to take a lot of them. They also missed Malkin’s ability to play down low on a 5 on 3 late in the 2nd period, and his ability to pressure point men, when Finland scored on the power play to make it 3-0. His absense is really factoring into today’s game.

  18. Mario_n_Sidney says:

have you seen any of russias games? Obviously not.

Pens will still be garbage! No mater the year!
