Maple Leafs Sign Phil Oreskovic

John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Friday that the club has signed defenceman Phil Oreskovic to a three-year, entry level contract.

The 6-3, 225 pound native of North York, Ontario, was the Toronto Maple Leafs’ second choice, 82nd overall, in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He split last season between the Brampton Battalion and the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League collecting 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) with 179 penalty minutes in 62 regular season games. Following Owen Sound’s exit from the OHL Playoffs, Oreskovic joined the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League for three games and registered his first AHL assist April 14th at Manitoba.

  2. Sedin23 says:

Now the Leaf's are serious contender's. This guys sounds like a goon. AN ALMOST OVERAGED PLAYER ONLY GETTING 22 POINTS IN THE OHL AND WAS DRAFTED 82ND OVERALL!!! WHAT A JOKE!

  3. KingCanada says:

The guy reminds me of Berg, yet another pylon.. maybe hell be good who knows

  4. Glucker says:

better then a playoff team consiting of a goalie, 2 strippers nothing else…WHAT A JOKE!

  5. Glucker says:

hes a defenseman anyways, doesnt need  to put up points, just needs to keep the other guys from doing that

  6. Glucker says:

atleast he wasnt first round XD… and we didnt trade away cammalleri to get him =.=

Aki coulda been good, he just didnt give a shit, lol, wanted to be  movie star instead:P

  7. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

as a stay at home defenseman idiot

  8. Sedin23 says:

    i'm sorry i didn't know.

  9. Sedin23 says:

    I didn't know, my bad.

  10. Sedin23 says:

Why are we talking about New Jersey?

  11. Glucker says:

the strippers part makes it NJD… 'swedish twins'

  12. Glucker says:

i guess they liked this guy enough not to let him re-enter the draft… ok, 2-3 years till we see him in Blue & White… more likely trade bait though… we got enough D-men as it is, and it looks like even if a slot gets cleared up this year, its gonna go straight to stralman…

  13. Sedin23 says:

I just saw the goalie part, and I assumed an american person is more likely to be a stripper then a swedish guy (Gomez, Gionta).

  14. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

wow, you've never been to europe

  15. toronto77 says:

he will probably be another hal gill. gill is about 30 isn't he, he's getting older. see how Oreskovich devolpes, if he is another berg then trade him.

  16. Glucker says:

so you've never seen the commercial, eh?

  17. Glucker says:

who knows we may trick ppl into the same stupid trade we made for berg =.=

  18. Sedin23 says:

You've never seen Detroit, or St. Louis have you?

  19. Sedin23 says:

    Amsterdam isn't in Sweden…

  20. Hoondog2 says:

despite what Sedin23 says, it is not a move to win us the cup.  This guy will probably shape up to be a Andy Sutton type player, hard hitting 5-6 type guy.  He would maybe be a better version of Gill down the road.  Good signing, I predict Sutton to sign for about 2 million this year.

  21. FarFromFreedom says:

i could care less about this signing. Ive seen him play alot for Brampton he has good size and he can lay the body theres no doubt about that but hes quite slow .. if im JFJ my number priority right now is getting Sundin his 2 year deal, i would worry about this one later on or just let him back into the draft hes never gonna be a top 4 guy. They should let him back in the draft and pick up A.J Thelen who will be a top 2-4 in the NHL someday. For some strange reason i see the Leafs picking up Zherdev at the draft, he wants out and he could be that player the Leafs have wanted since Mogilny left. 10 goals last year on a horrible CLB team .. whatever he proved himself with back to back 27 goal seasons. he could be that winger the Leafs want for Sundin and then bring in a player like Gomez for 6.5 and give noronen 1 mill per year. Those are the 3 moves the Leafs need to get atleast 6th in the east.

  22. Sedin23 says:

not many of those girls in Detroit, and St. Louis are Swedish.

  23. Pony says:

No offense but wow you look dumb in this string of posts. NHL has a series of commercials in one of them the Sedin twins are strippers. A coupla Swedish twins.

  24. JuicemaN says:

that'll teach you to maybe think before yuo make a typical anti-leafs comment.

Seriously, anti-leaf fans….suck it up and stop being such pricks.

  25. masarume says:

Sorry to go off topic, but you guys need to stop hating on Hal Gill.

He isn't as bad as you guys make him sound. If you watch him closely, he's a very smart player. He is just blessed with feet made out of cement so when he moves, it looks like he's drowining.

He was one of our better PK guys this year when he had competent defensive forwards to work with.

I see a lot of Toronto players get this treatment. Larry Murphy, Cory Cross, Aki Berg… these were all average players (minus murphy) that got a reputation of being total crap when they were not.

I have not HEARD of Oreskovic so I doubt he's an impact player. But like a previous poster said…. get Mats re-upped before gettin your rookies resigned.

  26. leaflova says:

I've never heard of him, or seen him play, i didnt even realise the leafs had this guy. Hopefully he will be a good player. My guess that he will be traded. We have so many defencemen, we need to concentrate on the forwards and on getting Sundin signed.

  27. Sedin23 says:

I know i saw it, i't a dumb commercial though (it's still funny though).

  28. Sedin23 says:

I'm not a leaf hater, it's just people get tired of hearing Stralman is going to be the next Kaberle, and Tlusty will be the NHL's leading goal scorer (the Tlusty part was a bit over exadurating, but people have said he's going to be big time), and then you guys say Schiender is terrible, he's going to be the next Cloutier, and all of this crap.

Were just getting sick of it, and most of us get a bit annoyed when we see something about the leaf's system.

P.S. I probably would have said something similier anyways even if he didn't play for Toronto, because he didn't sound very good, but I guess i'm wrong.

  29. Sedin23 says:

Oh sorry I thought you meant Commercial street in Vancouver. Oh god lol. Yeah it's pretty bad there so i just assumed.

  30. PaulK123 says:

if ur so *****ing tired of our *****ing comments then stop going to our *****ing section, stick to your Cancuck section and well stick to our Leafs section

  31. wingedim says:

Zherdev while showing some dashes of brilliance has been solved by the league and until he can come up with more moves will continue to be. Also his work ethic is dismal. Reminds me of Yashin. Sure he's young and will develop into a potential solid player, the Leafs need help now. And at $3.5M for the next 2 years too costly for a project.
