Mario Lemieux Retires!

Mario Lemieux’s retirement means Pittsburgh is now officially Sidney Crosby’s team.

Sportsnet.ca — The ‘Magnificent’ mantle has been passed.Sportsnet has learned Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins will hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon where it will be announced Lemieux is retiring from the game once again.

The announcement will be made at 2 p.m./ET at the Mellon Arena.

The game of hockey and its fans salute Mario and all he has done for the game, including coming back to put the Penguins in a position to stay in Pittsburg. The fans wish one of the best players and will miss his presence on the ice.

As a hockey fan I am saddened by the passing of the many greats we have seen leave the game this year, and at the same time I am excited to see the new youngsters make their mark on the hockey world.

I must say thank you to Mario for the time he spent in the league and gave us the privilege to watch his abilities displayed for us to enjoy.
