Marlies find replacement

According to the Toronto Maple Leafs have found a replacement head coach for recently promoted Paul Maurice. His replacement will be former Calgary Flames head coach Greg Gilbert. Gilbert was recently coaching the Missisauga Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League. “I love seeing guys finally grasp something you’ve tried to teach them,” Gilbert said of his development role. Once again the Leafs bring in an experienced NHL coach to man their farm club. Great Move.

Said Gilbert “I love seeing guys finally grasp something you’ve tried to teach them.”

    – Maybe he could teach Mcabe how to play Defense, If he could do that, I think that would give Gilbert the greatest satisfaction in the world.

………… dont joke around you know thats not possible.

McCabe isn’t a defencive wizz, but he’s smart in his own zone. He’s good at clearing the zone, getting pucks in the corners, and he’s quick on the backcheck. Not to mention the fact that he is almost NEVER caught pinching at the wrong time.

Great move, JFJ needs the best coach he can get as Pogge, Williams, Earl, Suglobov, Kulemin, Tlusty, Bell, and Harrison will be entering the NHL in a few years. He did a good job with the icedogs, but i guess Melnyk scared him off.

good job by ferguson to get a proven coach behind the bench in the ahl.

You just said he’s no defensive wizz, but you provide comments like “good at clearing the zone”, “Never caught pinching”, “strong backcheck”. Those all sound like strong defensive attributes. You might as well have stuck with your initial comment that he’s not a defensive wizz, instead of contradicting yourself in the rest of the comment.

  7. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

yeah, if theres one thing Fergie does well its putting together a solid AHL club every year.

He seems to have a knack for coaches period. He never really liked Quinn. Maybe his plan was always to get Maurice a couple years in the marlies witht he kids, so that now that he is the Head coach he can utilize the kids more.

  9. bpanther83 says:

Wow your a very literal person eh? He just ment he is above average. He isn’t as good as Pronger in his own end, but he can handle his own. He is GOOD at clearing the zone, not AMAZING. and ALMOST never gets caught pinching. At least take the WHOLE quote not just the peices u read.

bpanther83 and BLUE_AND_WHITE, You guys are just as bad as JanettytheRocker and Gretzkin for riding each others coat tails. Get a room already.

  11. bpanther83 says:

eww he wants us to get a room so he can watch us go at it. Ur a sick bastard. but im not like that sry

hahaha yeah that makes a lot of sense … with Gilbert coaching the MARLIES and all.

you need to improve on your sarcasm a little there mucks.

  13. 92-93 says:

well … McCabe is not a defensive liability on most nights.

but i just hate hate hate it when he shoots the puck into the shin pads of PK guys when he is on the PP. hate it!

i also hate it when he takes stupid penalties.

Its just a joke, I was always in the “McCabe is a huge liabilty boat” until the Olympics – i thought he played really well there and I mean defensively, he got caught a few times, but he recovered well and he actually really impressed me. I converted and now think his defese isn’t the best, but is MUCh better then average like I thought before.

McCabe seems to play better defense when he is just reacting and its a panic situation – his hockey instincts just seem to take over and he always seems able to recover. It seems to me, that when the play is slow and he is trying to play perfectly within the system – thats when he breaks down, when he is trying to think about what the coach told him or trying to think what his partner will do. McCabe always seems to try and take the load off his defensive partner and make his partners side of the ice safe, and he gets burnt for it. As a defensive partner he’d be great to play with, because he always seems to be doing what is great for his partner and not necessarily himself – which gets him into trouble.

I’d take him on my team, of all the Leafs d men, I’d take him over all the others – the one thing he does better then everybody else, his shot seems to get teams nervous when games are close and it opens up alot of ice for the PP down-low, especially in tight games when the opposing team has to make extra sure he isn’t blasting it from the point. If the Leafs just had a real skilled winger to play on McCabes side (mats is everywhere on the PP, but usually on the opposite side) their PP would easily win them an extra 5 games this year.

    that wasn’t funny its tupid

  16. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

thats right you got NO arument on McCabe, so you make a dumb comment like that.

  17. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

He usually getsin bad situations because Kberle picked a stupid time to pinch, or he gave away the puck.

The Leafs PP won A lot of games last season, its 5 on 5 that killed us.

As much as people get on Fergie, he has rebuilt our whole farming system in the short time he has been here. Great move Fergie.

I’m more impressed with this guy everyday
