Martin Brodeur could be facing the final two weeks of his Devils career

As improbable as it sounds, Martin Brodeur could be entering the final two weeks of his Devils career.

The 41-year-old goalie is facing the possibility that he will sit on the bench while Cory Schneider plays most of the team’s final 23 games. If so, the NHL trade deadline, just two weeks away on March 5, could be very different this year for Brodeur. He could be asked to waive his no-trade clause, or even request a trade. “It won’t be (different) if I don’t say so. That’s the bottom line,” Brodeur said Wednesday as the Devils’ non-Olympians practiced at AmeriHealth Pavilion. “If I don’t say so, it’s going to be the same as the last 20 years.”

Back from a week of sunshine and golf, Brodeur said he hasn’t spoken to general manager Lou Lamoriello about his situation and hasn’t decided if he will waive his no-trade clause if asked.

“I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it until I talk to people, and there is nothing planned yet. I’m probably going to wait,” Brodeur said.
