Modano and Stars…NO DEAL!!!!

TSN is reporting that mike Modano has rejected the latest contract from the stars. Boston and Chicago have both offered 4 year deals worth over $20 mil.

Looks like the signing of Iginla and Naslund made him chage his mind.

My prediction, Boston before the day is done

yep, was just about to post this..

    off the stars website-

FRISCO, Tex. (2:30 p.m. CDT) — Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that center Mike Modano has rejected the contract offer that was extended to him Tuesday afternoon and has informed the Stars that he would like to continue to talk with other NHL clubs. The Stars’ offer to Modano was for five years.

More information will be available later.

When I first read about the deal he was supposed to have with Dallas lastnight, I was thinking he really was going to take less money to play in Dallas. In 5 years in Dallas, he’d make 17.5 million, while he could make 20 million in 4 years somewhere else, and maybe get a nice contract if he decided to play one more year after that. It seemed too good to be true that he’d take that offer, and it looks like it’s true.

Really, the Stars blew this one when they let him become a free agent. They didn’t even TRY to sign him, and the only offer they floated his way was a one year contract, maybe, if they had to, a two year contract…if they offered him the 5 year/17.5 million from the start, they’d probably have him signed right now…but I think if anything, they pissed him off playing their little games, and he wasn’t going to do them any favors taking a pay cut for them.

The Bruins just signed Leetch for one year… terms not disclosed.

Pens missed out on Kovy and HAD shown interest in Modano before. Maybe they will again? I hope, cuz we need at least another top forward cuz Crosby is too young to force feed him the NHL and Lemieux will end up hurt for at least halfthe year, AGAIN.

Me too, he will go to Boston with USA buddy Leetch.

The Bruins want to trade Thornton, they made it clear by spending millions on other players.

Iginla got $7M. Naslund $6M…. Thornton is not even close to getting $6M from the Bruins.

What does that tell you? He’s gone.

Here is John Buccigross’ team for Boston for 39 million.

    Thornton-Murray-Kariya — ($10 million; combined salaries)

    Bergeron-Samsonov-Lapointe — ($6 million)

    Holik-Fitzgerald-Axelsson — ($5 million)

    Boyes-Hilbert-Orr — ($2 million)

    Boynton-Gonchar — ($7 million)

    Aucoin-Leetch — ($5 million)

    Gill-Girard — ($2 million)

    Andrew Raycroft — ($1 million)

    Hannu Toivonen — ($1 million)

Think Leaf fans are bad? Her is a professional hockey writer that is so far in left field that it is simply a joke to look at this.

Looks like this is looking real bad. I believe there is some animosity between management and Modano. I mean, they resign Zubov real quickly after they said they weren’t sure they wanted to invest long terms in an old guy like Modano. But Zubie and Modano are pretty much the same age, so it’s like wtf? The Stars are looking real bad now, and fans will lose a lot of interest if Modano leaves. They need him.

once again TIIC(the idiots in charge) strikes again. this time by letting modano walk away. i hope TIIC realize that this isn’t the cowboys where you can field a piece of garbage team and the media will give you coverage as if you are a super bowl team. the stars already will have trouble getting fans thanks to the lockout by the greedy owners, now take away the face of the franchise and the stars will drop from 4th behind the rangers, mavs and cows to the level of marathon running. the stars do not have a replacement cornerstone player to replace Mo as the face of the franchise. none of the star players they bought aren’t going to sell the team. guerin and arnott hasn’t made a big enough impact to help sell tickets.
