Flames defenceman Robyn Regehr talks about a summer chock-full of trade rumours
Robyn Regehr touched down in Calgary last night after a blissful summer on the lake in Northern Saskatchewan.
But even in the woods, the Calgary Flames rearguard couldn't escaped the constant of barrage of trade rumours attached to his name.

Flames' cap puzzle can be solved
The math adds up — with slightly more than US$1 million to spare.
As it stands, the Calgary Flames could say they don’t have salary cap problems — that is provided they’re willing to go with exactly 12 forwards, seven defencemen and two goalies all season and don’t suffer injury problems.
Make that pretty much no injuries at all.

Iggy says rumours just rumours
Jarome Iginla has heard all the rumours surrounding the team’s mid-season collapse and insists there’s no truth to any of them, especially the ones involving Dion Phaneuf.
“I never ever fought with Dion,” said Iginla, candidly addressing a popular rumour suggesting the two squared off in the middle of the dressing room.

Flames GM has history of trading at NHL draft
Darryl Sutter is known as the wheelin’ and dealin’ cowboy of the National Hockey League entry draft.
History dictates the Calgary Flames general manager will trade up a storm on the draft floor next week in Los Angeles — especially with the offensively challenged club in desperate need of additional scoring punch.

Flames need backup goalie for star Kiprusoff
The Calgary Flames are, once again, in the market for a backup goalie.
General manager Darryl Sutter, in an interview Wednesday, confirmed Vesa Toskala — an unrestricted free agent who drew a salary of $4 million US last season — is not returning to the club.

Flames just need some tweaking, says embattled GM Darryl Sutter
Darryl Sutter received a vote of confidence last week from his boss, Ken King.
The pronouncement from the team president apparently meant little to the embattled general manager of the Calgary Flames.
“Ken came out and said that, but it wasn’t important for me to have that publicly,” Sutter said Monday before embarking for the National Hockey League general manager meetings. “It’s more important what happens internally.”

Flames stick with GM Sutter, captain Iginla
Darryl Sutter is safe.
Jarome Iginla, too.
On Thursday, Calgary Flames president Ken King quashed whatever lingering speculation remained that his under-fire general manager and/or sputtering star captain/right-winger will be employed anywhere but the Pengrowth Saddledome this winter.

Nystrom ready to jump ship
No news is bad news down at the Dome these days as Calgary Flames ownership is apparently struggling with deciding who will attempt to lead the team out of this mess.
Regardless of who is saddled with trying to steer the club through a minefield of bad contracts, an aging core and few prospects without the aid of draft picks, the news is actually about to get worse for the club.

HTR Feature Article: Iginla says he would consider leaving team, if Flames ask
By Vicki Hall, Calgary Herald
Jarome Iginla says he would consider waiving his no-trade clause should the Calgary Flames ask him to consider changing teams.
“If they don’t want me here and they want to move in a direction or rebuild or believed they could do better, I would look at it,” the Calgary Flames captain said Wednesday as the players packed up their belongings at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Flames shouldn’t even consider moving franchise player because of scoring woes
While Wayne Gretzky’s trade taught the sports world everybody has a price, the cries to trade Jarome Iginla are both irrational and based largely on emotion.
The Calgary Flames have made too many foolish mistakes the past few years.
Turning Matthew Lombardi and a first-round draft choice into Ales Kotalik for the next two seasons at US$3 million each year is a biggie.

The burning question
Mark Spector
Flames fans are wondering if it is time to change the face of the franchise.
CALGARY - There are a myriad of questions here in Calgary, as a city that could never get used to first-round flops is now being asked to get its head around a team that won’t even get that far.
They're asking questions. Big questions.

Why?

Steve Yzerman to Calgary? It's anything but certain
Here's a topic that seems to come up fairly frequently: When is Steve Yzerman going to get bored playing second or third fiddle in the Red Wings' front office and want to run his own team? You know, other than Team Canada.
