Kessel_Leafs48 writes "Philadelphia waited less than three hours after news broke about Kovalchuk re-upping with the Devils to deal veteran forward Simon Gagne to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Matt Walker and Tampa Bay's fourth-round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft."

HTR Feature Article: Acquiring Simon Gagne an intriguing thought for Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning has interest in acquiring Flyers left wing Simon Gagne. It is difficult to tell the level of interest because no one with the organization has commented publicly, but it would be naive to believe otherwise.
Why wouldn't Tampa Bay inquire about a proven goals and points producer being shopped by a team desperate to clear cap space?
Only hours after it appeared that maybe Guy Boucher would indeed remain in the Canadiens family he so glowingly spoke about last Thursday, it appears the talented young coach is going to be joining Steve Yzerman,Stamkos, St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier in Tampa Bay.
Ruefrontenac.com 's Martin Leclerc reported late Monday night that Boucher is indeed taking Yzerman's offer to become his first coaching hire. And it's a mighty good one, I might add.

Stamkos contract extension high on to-do list of GM Yzerman
On his list of priorities as the Lightning's new general manager, Steve Yzerman has signing Steven Stamko s to a contract extension close to the top. Yzerman acknowledged the sides cannot speak until July 1, when the final year of Stamkos' three-year rookie deal that pays a base salary of $875,000 begins. But Yzerman said considering what the star center means to the franchise, it's never too early to prepare.

Upon suggesting this, I'm half convinced that someone is going to start up a Don't Trade Marty blog on blogspot by the end of the week. This is by no means what I'm suggesting (yet), just something to think about as a possibility. Now in the future, trading away Martin St. Louis may become a reality for Lightning fans and it will cause some uproar among the faithful (yes all 10 of you).
Where does Steve Yzerman go to find the Tampa Bay Lightning's next coach?
New Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said he wants to have a coach in place by the start of free agency, meaning July 1. Most interesting is that Yzerman, while saying he wants someone who has been a head coach, that person does not necessarily need head coaching experience in the NHL.
In other words, the Lightning's next coach may not be a household name.

Yzerman - one of many candidates rumoured to be in the running for the job - replaces Brian Lawton, who was fired last month. Yzerman worked for four seasons as Vice President and Alternate Governor for the Detroit Red Wings after retiring as a player in 2006.

HTR Feature Article: Is Tampa Bay Lightning's St. Louis floating idea of a trade?
As if the Lightning, after three straight dismal seasons, needed another reason to take its rebuilding program seriously, there is this:
The goal is still there. After all this time, and after all this misery, it can still be reached.
Do not talk of the odds, and do not pay attention to the pressure, for you have seen the Lightning, and deep down you know it is capable of pulling this off. It has the goaltending for it, and the defense, and the right amount of depth on its scoring lines.

Trade Rumors: Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Brian Lawton wants to buy at trade deadline
Remember last season's trade deadline? The Lightning, foundering in the standings and trying desperately to reduce payroll enough to gain full league revenue sharing, was in sell mode, dumping wing Mark Recchi, goaltender Olie Kolzig and defensemen Steve Eminger and Jamie Heward.
Trade Rumors: Lightning to be active at the deadline
Why now: “We wanted to get to this point when we sat down last year as a group to be playing meaningful games for the playoffs and we are there now, and that’s not good enough. Finishing ninth is not good enough for the Tampa Bay Lightning, coming up a little short isn’t good enough. We’ve got high expectations that runs from our past ownership to our eventual new ownership, that is crystal clear and everybody should understand that.’‘
Bolts' Lawton: Despite sale reports, no plans to trade Vinny
The GM says he can't control the reports but says the focus should be on Vinny Lecavalier's improved play after a slow start.

With all kinds of reports circulating in regards to a potential sale of the Lightning, including one suggesting moving captain Vinny Lecavalier as part of any sale to prospective owner Jeffrey Vinik, Tampa Bay general manager Brian Lawton on Sunday squelched some of what has been reported.

Kent Hughes, the agent for Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier, did react to a Hockey News story that said if Vinik takes control, he could ask Lecavalier to waive his no-move clause as a way for the team to cut costs.
Lecavalier, 29, with 14 goals and 52 points, is in the first year of an 11-year, $85 million deal that pays $10 million this season.
