Murray to Leafs a Done Deal?

Before I start to speculate I want to let everyone know that this rumor is 100% legitimate!

Well the word in the NHL is that the Leafs and Glen Murray have agreed on a deal that would make him a Maple Leaf. The fan590’s Howard Burger spoke to Glen Murray’s agent, Anton Thun and Leafs GM John Ferguson Jr but both would not speculate on any info.

Anton Thun told Burger that Ferguson have had many talks about Murray but would not going any further. Howard Buger apparently also contacted other GM’s from around the league and many of them have told him that it is a done deal and that Murray is off the block.

If you don’t believe me and you live in Toronto tune your radio to the fan590 and listen to the 20/20 update.

Regards,

Justin

What would they give up to get Thornton? They don’t have any players like Bouwmeester, Spezza or Ovechkin. They don’t even have many second-tier prospects that the Bruins would want. Look at it this way. If Ottawa were to trade for Thornton, they would likely have to give up Spezza, Havlat, Pothier and a high draft pick. Honestly, the Leafs don’t have any young players that are in the same league as Spezza and Havlat.

Also, this is rumoured to be the Panthers’ possible offer: Bouwmeester, Horton and Weiss for Thornton and a pick.

Joe Thornton is a 25 year old superstar, so he will command two young players with all-star potential (Ovechkin, Spezza, Bouwmeester, Lehtonen, Horton type players), a solid prospect (Weiss, Mike Richards, etc.) and a high pick. The Leafs simply don’t have anything to offer.

  2. TheCoach says:

Who cares where Thornton wants to play. If the Bruins trade him, which is very unlikely, they will go for the best offer. They won’t trade him to the Leafs for Antropov and Pilar because he wants to play there. Also, I doubt he singled out Ottawa.

Thornton is 25 years old and he is already a top 5 player in this league. To get him, a team would have to give up a hell of a lot. Not just Antropov and Kaberle. Ottawa would likely have to give up Spezza, Havlat, Pothier and a very high pick. Honestly, the Leafs have no young players that are in the same league as Havlat or Spezza.

  3. DarkPhoenix says:

Actually, I heard that Boston’s looking for young potential top 4 defenceman for Thornton. If Toronto has an overload of anything, it’s that.

  4. TheCoach says:

Seriously? You think the Bruins will give up a 25 year old superstar for an average player and defenseman and 2 second tier prospects?

680 News gets their sports info from the Fan 590.

  6. TheCoach says:

Joe Thornton? The Leafs have nothing to give up that would get them a 25 year old superstar.

  7. TheCoach says:

Thornton can’t refuse a trade. He does not have a no-trade clause in his contract.

  8. Shortstuff says:

I would have to agree that nomatter where Murray goes, he will have les points and goals than last year, simply because I believe he a selfish type of player, the kind who start playing well when thier UFA status is coming next year. But the guy has one of the best shots in the league, a powre play expert and will fit with sundine IF HE DOES ACTUALLY GO THERE! Talk about it when it is final.

  9. habs_punk says:

and what about murray’s playoff performance makes you think he’s going to give them that much of an upgrade come the post season?

  10. Gretz99NYR says:

WHAT A SLOP OF CROCK!!! This is Soooo bogus- Murray will NEVER go to the leafs- he has sworn to wear only the blue of NYR. His emotional bond with sather, the almight puck-god is prevailing, and he can only now clearly see his duty and joy is with the NYR. He said (quote) Me and slats have bonded, it is kindof like a father-son bond and we share the same first name, which is way cool. He is (miffled sniffs) like a daddy to me in so many ways.

D tom pota is rumored to have made over 100 t- shirts and generously passed them out to all his teamates and mailed to all UFAs. the front bears the words- Who’s your Daddy? the back replys– Sather.

  11. habs_punk says:

wow, from what im hearing, it doesnt matter who the leafs try to package, if florida is offering bouwmeester, weiss, and horton, there is absolutely NO chance in hell that thornton will be a leaf… or any other team for that matter

  12. OldNord says:

Bullshit, Toronto doesn’t have what the other teams could give. Keep dreaming! lol

  13. mrdude75 says:

poinkarovsky had a better playoffs then thorton so dont rag on him to hard

  14. Enigma says:

    This coming from dog farts.

  15. DarkPhoenix says:

This coming from a guy cheering for a team that moved on almost 10 years ago.

I guess Toronto’s entire roster and minor system is worthless. I guess you’d rather have Pittsburg’s or Washington’s infinitely better roster, eh?

The realistic fact is that if Boston really is looking for potential top 4 defenseman, the Leafs could give an offer just as good as anyone else in the league. And outside of the rumored offer from Toronto, “what the other teams could give” looks like their entire future. Are you going to sit there and tell me that Florida or Ottawa is going to dismantle their team just for Joe Thornton? Give me a break.

Where do you idiots come from? Do you lose your brains the minute “Toronto Maple Leafs” is mentioned?

    too funny!!!

  17. EmptyNetter says:

Actually, Murray asked the Bruins for $30m over 5 years. I think he makes over $4m now.

  18. EmptyNetter says:

“Murrray is Thorton’s wingman and trading Murray would break up aa succsseful line.”

If Murray is a UFA then the Bruins can’t trade him. Murray just leaves.

  19. GretzNYR99 says:

    See definition for worthless.

    Fits you well.

  20. nocuphere says:

Anytime internet tough guy, any time.

  21. nocuphere says:

Right on bro, quit your job as the HTR as shole and apply for a GM job!!

  22. EmptyNetter says:

First off, I’m surprised that anything Bruins-related is getting this much attention. Anyway, here’s what I’ve heard so far:

Neither Thornton nor his agent have requested a trade. Bruins GM Mike O’Connell has not been contacted by either to request a trade. It has only been mentioned in a NY Post article.

Glen Murray asked the Bruins for a 5-year, $30 million contract. Bruins see this as too expensive. Joe only makes $5.5m per year.

    My opinion:

Even if Joe requests a trade, Bruins will never trade him to a Northeast Division rival.

The real steal so far has been Mike Knuble to Philadelphia. Willing to stand in front of the net and poke in garbage goals as well as skate the puck in, and I think he signed for 1/3 of what Murray is asking. He’ll be missed in Boston.

I’d love to see Glen Murray in Toronto. He’ll gobble up TO payroll, and you can shut him down by standing between him and the superstar center that he’s paired with. Two more things — he won’t hit and has no defensive skills.

I looked up the meaning and it actually said:

Stupid ranger fan. thinker of foolish thoughts.web-hockey site junkie who is always grammatically correct and prone to have ego issues and occasionally farts through the nostrils.

  24. LeafyMcLeaf says:

Are you insane. Quinn never plays Domi he consistantly gets 5minutes a game and Sundin gets 20. Quinn is the worst for not playing lines evenly.

  25. rangers99 says:

LOL i love it why do you think the bruins let knuble, odonnell and rolston leave i will tell you as a season ticket holder the money for knuble and rolston will be used to resign glen murray he is not going anywhere and the bruins will make a play for paul karyia who was a hockey east star at maine and has roots in massachusetts..the bruins will shock the nhl when this happens

    go b’s

  26. afanofthelakings says:

nice in the same round the flyers wins over the devils and they also loses against the bolts

  27. LeafsCrazy2430 says:

I think murray fits in perfectly. He’s like a missing piece to the puzzle. He’s a gritty 1st line right wing with offensive talent as well as defensive talent. That’s something Mogilny doesnt have. Sure he’s an offensive star but not much else.

these are my lines with him in the roster

    Roberts – Sundin – Murray

    Tucker – Nieuwendyk – Nolan

    Antropov – Stajan – Mogilny

    Kilger – Reichel – Domi

    Leetch – McCabe

    Kaberle – Klee

    Marchment – Berg

    Belfour

    Tellqvist

  28. c2p996 says:

    Kariya Sundin Hejduk

    Demitra St.Louis Nolan

    Murray Nieuwendyk Roberts

    Gagne Briere Hull

    Leetch Niedermayer

    Schneider Mccabe

    Chara Klee

Spares or trade: Mogilny, Domi, Stajan, Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Kaberle, Berg

  29. c2p996 says:

Trade Sundin and Tucker and $10mil to Calgary for
