My Leafs Line-up

Now that the Leafs have almost set their line-up for the 2006-07 season, who won’t make the team and what would the lines look like? I’m going to set a line combination with possible signings (ex. Roberts, Lindros, Peca). I’m interested to hear all of your feedback and your own ideas.

My Roster

Steen – Sundin – Roberts

Tucker – Lindros – O’Neill

Ponikarovsky – Antropov – Kilger

Wellwood – Peca – Ondrus

McCabe – Kaberle

Kubina – Colaiacovo

Gill – White

Raycroft

Aubin

Scratched: Pohl, Belak, Stajan

*Tellqvist will be traded for Roberts

I think the Leafs should sign Lindros, he is well worth the money. Throw him on the wing with Sundin (theres your big winger for Mats), then you throw Antropov on the other wing (say what you want, but he dominated with Sundin in the last 3rd of the season). Then you pick up Carter.

    Antropov Sundin Lindros

whos gonna stop this huge line

    Tucker Wellwood Carter

hard working line that can score

    Steen Stajan O neill

    fast skillful line

    Ponikarovsky Pohl Kilger

good forechecking line that can score and hit

    Kaberle McCabe

    Colaiacovo Kubina

    good top 4

Gill Harrison or Kronwall or Pilar….

big defensive unit that can hit (and pk)

    Raycroft

    Aubin

    There it is….

    very nice. im impressed

the only comment i have to put on that is poni antropov kilger thats an iffy.maybe shove them to the fourth line. the first line i like because sundin and roberts the chemistry is just unbeleivable and sundin played well with steen also. the second line i like but the line has two high injury proned players. but i LOVE the peca line that line will contribute sooo much solid grind line not much scoring for ondrus or peca but with wellwood on that line setting up everything WOW HELL of a line….. Now the D i like kaberle and caber u cant seperate them but kubina and colaiacovo very nice two decently large D and Gill and White two solid stay at home grinders. Raycroft is a no brainer but aubin finished well but its time to break in pogge. He’s go a very bright future to his career. And tellqvist for roberts i would lol forsure.pohl’s decent belak we dont need a fighter anymore we got ondrus and stajan didn’t turn out as everybody thought he would soo yeah he can stay scratch but all in all not bad at all i wouldn’t mind seing those leafs.get ride of antropov i’d rather see pohl or stajan by far.

  3. Farva says:

Overall this is a good effort. The only problem I see is with Roberts and Peca. IMO this is an either/or situation. Roberts makes $2.25 and Peca will probably come in around there. Although I respect Roberts and what he brings, I give the edge to Peca because he is younger, will give us more games, and hopefully longer term so we can start rebuilding the chemistry that is needed to formulate strong teams.

…Also Lindros is a must. Putting this guy on Sundins wing instantly provides us with a legitimate #1 line that can strike fear in the hearts of Dmen everywhere.

..Stajan wasnt a bust… the guys been here for two years! give him some time

    Steen – Sundin – Lindros

    Tucker – Peca – O’Neill

    Ponikarovsky – Wellwood – Antropov

    Kilger – Stajan – Ondrus

    Extras: Pohl, Belak, Williams, Suglabov

    McCabe – Kaberle

    Kubina – White

    Gill – Coliacovo

    Extra:Bell, Harrison, Woz

    Raycroft

    Aubin

There we go, my first attempt at a leafs line up. Any comments?

  4. toronto77 says:

scratch Stajan?…….he was our best penalty killer, was amazing when he was paired up with Steen……if Steen and Stajan play together on the same line than they can have a lot of success.

  5. burnz30 says:

I don’t think that that line up is possible. They don’t have enough room to fit Lindros, Peca and Roberts in. I think that Roberts will be the odd man out. Maybe he’ll retire and the Leafs can make him an assistant coach. I wouldn’t scratch Pohl and Stajan, they need to play. I’d sooner scratch Antropov. If Antropov does play it will be the wing. I think that if they sign Lindros he’ll play the wing with Sundin. I like the look of the D though. I like White with Gill, someone who’s quick that can get back to help.

  6. Stoich says:

Those could all work. But if we do add Peca, and I hope we do, and bring back Lindros for 750k we could have a pretty solid lineup.

    Lindros Sundin Steen

    Tucker Peca O’Neill

    Ponikarovsky Antropov Kilger

    Wellwood Stajan Pohl*

    Extras: Battaglia*, Belak, Ondrus

    McCabe Kaberle

    Kubina Gill

    Colaiacovo White

    Raycroft

    Aubin

  7. ECOLASTIC says:

I think the Leafs should leave the Roberts Headache to Keenan in FLA. Sign Carter, Peca and Lindros trade away Tellqvist & Belak and your leafs should look some thing like this.

    O’Neill Sundin Lindros

    Tucker Peca Kilger

    Ponikarovsky Antropov Carter

    Steen Wellwood Stajan

    McCabe Kaberle

    Kubina Gill

    Colliacovo White

    Raycroft

    Aubin

There you have 4 excellent lines with Sundin’s line I think can play with any other top line in the league. The Peca line can be matched up against the other teams top line top bang them around and pound the defencemen in the corners. Yeah Antropov & Ponikarovsky aren’t the Sedin twins but if Carter can work magic with them he can work magic with anyone . Finally but defineitly not last Toronto will finally have a KID LINE again with Steen, Wellwood & Stajan.

Toronto’s defence well what is there to say about Toronto’s defence but amazing tell me who has a better top 4 defence in the league no one even comes close. Top 2 defence has to go to the Duck with Niedermieyer & Pronger but top 4 has to go to the Leafs.

  8. LeafsFan90 says:

I think this is the most realistic line-up the leafs can make while leaving 10 to 5 mil left in cap space, to move around with for lots of breathing room. I assumed they would sign Carter, not trade to get Roberts and let Lindros leave, I just think this is what they will most likely do.

    Steen – Sundin – Carter

    Tucker – Wellwood – O’Neil

    Ponikarovsky – Stajan- Antropov

    Kilger – Pohl – Ondrus

    Alternates:Earl(LW) , Williams(C), Suglobov(RW),Belak(rover)

    McCabe – Kaberle

    Kubina – Colaiacovo

    Gill – White or Harrison

    Alternates: Wozniewski, Bell, Kromwall, belak(rover)

    Raycroft

    Aubin

    Alternates: Tellqvist, Racine, Pogge

  9. mapleleafs4cup says:

    Ok,this is myn

    Steen-Sundin-O’Neil

    Wellwood-Lindros-Stajan

    Ondrus-Peca-Tucker

    Kilger-Antropov-Ponikarvosky

    Spare line:Suglobov-Pohl-Williams

    Extra:Earl

  10. mapleleafs4cup says:

    ohhh i forgot defense:

    McCabe-Kaberle

    Kubina Coliacovo

    White-Gill

    Raycroft

    Aubin

  11. Farva says:

The leafs are already within 5 mil of where they want to be, so signing Carter would be out of the question. However saving 5 mil for safe keeping isnt neccsary, because even if there is a move at the deadline, we dont have to pickup the entire salary, only whatever is left on it for that year. Carter is a possibility, butlimits other signings that could help. Ive said it before and ill say it again, Peca and Lindros are the best option, hands down.

  12. DJTOKid says:

beautiful!!! absolutly beautiful this is how I view the Leafs as well, with a couple of exceptions. First I think that Suglobov is going to get his chance for at lest half the season. So I would switch Suglobov with Ondrus, maybe tinker with a few other things after that. I can’t imagine it happening but i think the Leafs would be better if they split Mccabe and Kabbie, put Kubina with Mccabe and then pair Kaberle with Colaiacovo, and Gill with White. Other then that I love the line ups, the first line is da bomb!!! I would love to see the Leafs put that together Sundin would finally be playing with alot of talent, he could set up Lindros all year and they would both help Steen develope. All in all I love it!

  13. LeafsLegacy says:

    Stajan??

  14. LeafsLegacy says:

Wow.. imagine that .. Tucker -Peca-O’Neil… dominating! Tucker being sandpaper, Peca’s defensive abilities, and O’Neils offensive abilities!

  15. Farva says:

I was contemplating the same thing with Kubina/McCabe, but opted for the status quo. I also contemplated the Suglabov switch but felt that Ondrus would add that fourth line grit, where as Sugs might be more of a defensive liability. His offensive potential is certainly attractive but I just cant see him cracking the initial roster….but I could be wrong.

  16. Minky says:

Antropv with sundin? no way. O’Niell should be with Sundin. But I agree that Lindros and Sundin should be on the same line. Pat Quinn did it for a shift lat year, and they connected for a goal in about 15 seconds. Then he takes apart the line…Thats why i’m glad he’s gone, he made possibly the most retarded line combos, and when he found one that worked well he would take it apart for the next game.

  17. Minky says:

Forgot to say. I think that was one of out downfalls. Because of his constant line juggling, there was little chemistry on the lines. Look at the D though with Kabby and McCabe, they played all the time together and they were awsome together.

  18. Ace_Bailey says:

How is this a good effort at all? We will not have enough wiggle room within the cap if we sign all those players (Roberts, Peca, Lindros). Roberts at 2.5m, Peca at 2m-3m and Lindros at 750k leaves the Leafs with a minimum of $43.2m total salary and with a maximum of 800k wiggle room. This is idiotic as there is no wiggle room for trades injuries etc.

Not only that, you’re wasting Wellwood’s talents (same amount of pts as Steen) on a checking/grinding line. Are you out of your mind? You would rather play Ondrus than Stajan? At least Stajan is good on the PK and can notch a few pts. He’s a bad centre but Wellwood is a natural centre. Ondrus is Domi jr. without the skating or fighting ability Domi had when he was Ondrus’ age.

Wow. I dont think so buddy. Lets see…. No less then 9 players leaving, 8 players coming in, and 3 picks coming our way? The FLA trade is a ripoff for us, the EDM trade is a ripoff for them, and what is with you against Jeff O’Neill? Always trading him to Carolina for a 5th.

  24. rollinfatty says:

this is a shit trade…..screw weiss, we could get roberts for a 3rd round draft pick. Jeff O’Neill 5th? You idiot. I hate scott gomez. Nice try but i don’t like it.

  25. danfrappier1982 says:

How can the leafs expect to be a playoff team with a roster like this, sure there defense is above average, but what about the rest

    Antropov Sundin Oneil

    Poni Steen Tucker

    Wellwood Kilger Stajan

    Suglobov Wilm Ondrus

    Mccabe Kaberle

    Gill Kubina

    Berg Belak

    Raycroft and Tellquist

Most of the players are unproven, sure they have potential but that means nothing until they acutally do something
