I’d seriously like to know just what this supposed “system” was that Waddell was using to choose his players. Whatever it is, it’s flawed to the extreme.

  2. wingerxxx says:

Yeah…Waddell really blew it this time around. The forwards don’t look too bad, and the goaltending is about as good as it’s going to be, but he really blew it when it came to choosing the defense.

I’m glad Roenick didn’t make it. Experience or not, he’s having a terrible season and is not one of the top 13 American forwards this year. You can’t live off past glory forever. If he wants to root for Canada, go right ahead.

The same goes for guys like Chelios and Hatcher. They are old, slow defensemen and I can see them struggling heavily on the wider rink.

I don’t see a medal for this team, or even a medal round appearance. I think at the very least Canada, Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Republic will field stronger teams. Probably Russia as well.

  4. Jrugges says:

Yeah call Chelios old and wash up just isn’t true, he can still play the game and his postition. He’s taken on a new role on just play deffense, not much offensive production, But I do don’t believe he should have made the team. Leetch is still better, and I’d like to see him. He might be out because he might be injuryed or other reason we just dont know. Lets not forget about Sean Hill, He’s the best deffender on the Panthers(not saying much) and would be a better asset to the team. In my point of view.

    swedes not czechs

  6. Neely4Life says:

Lets hope the USA world jr’s can do some damage, they r the favorites for the first time ever.

  7. SabresFan220 says:

Ok, Doug Weight and Chelios should not be on this team. Hatcher is slow and not what he used to be. Why is Leetch not on this team? Of all of the aging vets on here, he is one of the few guys I’ve ever seen that never lost a step. Paul Mara should’ve been chosen too, but I also think Tim Connolly could have made it, especially the way he’s played this year.

But I guess my real question here is why the hell is Don Waddell team USA’s GM?! He can’t put together a winning team in Atlanta, why put him in charge of picking the guys to represent my country? If being smart enough to draft Ilya Kovalchuk for Atlanta is the only prerequisite for his job I have news for you, we all could be GM for team USA.

  8. Cabber205 says:

I think that JR is a sure win over Keith Tkachuk, I mean look at this guy…First he got suspended for going to camp over weight and what did he do since then??? A whole lot of nothing… In my opinion JR is 10 times the player that Tkachuk is in this new NHL…

  9. pensfanalltheway6687 says:

Not as strong as it could be. I think maybe a few too many young guys. Get some vets for leadership. ie. Roneick LeClair.

  10. distance7 says:

15 points in 10 games is a whole lot of nothing for Tkachuk? He has been the only bright spot on a horrible Blues team.

  11. iginla012 says:

So who will be named captain, and who will be the alternate captains ?

    Here’s my pick

    C:Chelios

    A:Thachuk

    A:Modano

  12. distance7 says:

    C: Chelios

    A: Modano

    A: Drury

Nothing against Tkachuk, I just think they’re going to groom Drury for the C.

a “what’s happening” reference. brilliant, classic! who can forget the picket line in front of rog’ and reruns place. where can one get ahold of such gems from my childhood? my favorite was when the bootlegger asks rerun to tape the doobie brothers concert and the MASSIVE cassette player falls to the floor.

oh yeah, in the hockey world – usa is screwed. as a kings fan i’ll back miller, he’s mobile and has good reach. from a kings standpoint it would have been nice to see roenick on the team to maybe get him going. he’s been good a the little things the kings need – but let’s get some production. olympics might have got him out of the funk.

    Modano will be the C

  16. cecilturtle says:

This team would have no chance against most NHL teams! Goaltending… Lets rate the 3 USA goalies… Just about every NHL team has better goaltending than these 3, except the Islanders and Flyers! Defence… I’m not going to get started… Its going to take me a little while to get over Leetch not being on the team and Hatcher, Schneider, etc making the roster! As a Rangers fan I miss Leetch not playing for the Rangers. I was really looking forward to seeing him be the best D-man in the Olympics again! Oh well, Maybe the Rangers will pull off a deal for Leetch before the trade deadline?

After seeing that roster it makes me glad im not american!

  18. nyrules11 says:

    GO SWEDEN!!!

I’m glad i can see my second favorite country ice a team that will compete.

Roenick should be on over Weight, Leetch over Chelios, Leopold, Rafalski, York over Parrish. Parrish sucks, yes he gets goals from time to time, but I would take York over him any day of the week.

  19. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

OMG i just noticed no leetch…LMAO how pathetic who put this team together?

  20. Neely4Life says:

Is it fair to say the USA is *****ed

  21. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

    noticing this now?

  22. MTLROCKS says:

USA SUX AT HOCKEY. CANADA WILL WIN THE GOLD OR CZECH 100%.

  23. habs79 says:

With all due respect to the Americans, they have some young stars comming up, but going into this team being named did anyone give them a chance at the gold? Does it really matter who they take? J.R. is crying (of course) saying he was”black balled”. Well J.R. when 25-30 games into the season you barely hit the “teens” in points it’s good enough reason to leave your ass home.

  24. LeafsJaysRapsBillsManU says:

    C: Chelios

    A: Chelios’ wonky prostate

A: Chelios’ bottle of Centrum Silver

  25. kicksave856 says:

Well, if you read some of the posts so far you’d think DiPietro and Esche are garbage. They aren’t garbage, but some of these people apparently don’t watch them enough. Hey, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, I suppose.

    The goalies will be fine.

  26. robinson19 says:

    Gold: Canada

    Silver: Czechs

    Bronze: Russia

    4: Finland

    5: Sweden

    6: Slovakia

    7: USA

4-6 are interchangeable since the Slovaks are the dark horse and could be a big surprise.

  27. intothevoid001 says:

if i’m not mistaken.. DiPetro letting in 6 goals against the leafs of all teams in the second period constitutes major sucking… AND IM A LEAFS FAN!

  28. cecilturtle says:

The look of disapointment on the Doobie Brothers faces as they looked down from the stage at Rerun trying to pick up the oversized 70’s tape cassett player. And poor Reruns look of shame as the Doobie Bro’s shake their head in disapproval. Classic TV.

  29. Resmo112 says:

While chelios isn’t gordie howe, i would say he has played as consistently over the years for his game. His points have dropped off although he can still quaterback a power play if needed, and he can still play 20 minutes a game. he’s an incredibly durable player and right now the wings are lucky they signed him with all their injuries he’s been a big part of their system.

  30. bringbacktocchet says:

i wouldn’t be surprised if germany snuck in there and took the americans spot.

  31. kicksave856 says:

    That’s one game. Never mind.

  32. 92-93 says:

    you know its pretty amazing.

i bring up a trade rumour about Allison and Khavanov going to Calgary for Yelle and Leopold and everyone calls me crazy – saying that Leopold is way better then what Toronto is giving them…

but here, everyone is bashing him – including some who propped him up in my trade speculation!

    what gives!?!

anyways, if he isn’t that good, maybe it would make more sense for the Leafs to trade Tucker/Khavanov for Simon/Leopold.

  33. cecilturtle says:

All hope of a miracle lies in the goaltending of John Half Grahame… And we dont even know if he could pass his drug test?
