News on the Flyers and more

You can silence the rumors on Bertuzzi to the Flyers, Clarke has stated that he has not been in contact with the Canucks and the team could never afford his salary. Now the question is if you can believe him.

Another rumor in the article, as heard before, has Recchi wearing the orange and black in a deal with Ryan Malone in exchange for RJ Umberger.

If the Flyers don’t deal Umberger, they will look at lower end forwards such as Dallas Drake, Matthew Barnaby, or Shawn Bates possibly.

Finally, the article also writes that the Flyers are shopping for a 2-way d-man to replace Johnsson if he is unable to return this season. Rumor has it that Keenan may make Jay Bouwmeester available and Brian Leetch from the Bruins could soon become available.

the flyers would definatly go after boumeester rather than leetch, if they can get them both than great but Jay first.

The college teachers strike in Ontario couldn’t of come at a better time, now i get to watch the trade deadline.

  2. Jar_21 says:

lol how stupid do u have to be to belive this crap. Malone is staying because hes turning the corner and bouwmeester or leetch arnt going anywhere just because their not available and their teams are still in playoff hunt. Use some knowledge before u post.

  3. FlyerzFan12 says:

none of this is my opinion, just stating what was in the newspaper today. i think pittsburgh would shop malone and boston leetch, but the panthers would be nuts to give up on bouwmeester already. all i did was post what i read, not my opinion

  4. SensDude says:

    yeah no kidding …damn strike!!!

  5. The-President says:

Ha, Toronto77, you need some common sense, almost all of your replies are bizarre, They would never get either, and your talking about possibly both, come on now man, jeez

  6. intothevoid001 says:

    agreed!

i didn’t really want to go to school this week anyway

  7. RangerSteve says:

I really can’t see Vancouver moving Bertuzzi. As much as he needs a change of scenary why would they get rid of the guy? No body’s going to make an offer that the Nucks can’t refuse.

I could see the Flyers getting Recchi back but not with Malone attached. Umberger is a nice player, but he isn’t worth both of these guys.

I’d be looking at Philly making a swap with Phoenix. There is a lot of history there when it comes to making deals.

  8. Flyer_Dman says:

Bring on Bouwmeester. If we did a Umberger+ package for JB that would be great. I think he was one of the few bright spots team Canada had over the Olympics.

Although, it still blows my mind that Phaneuf was overlooked, twice.

  9. Marky2Fresh says:

Ya it’s pretty sweet, I had a group project today I was suppose to do but the people in my class are really self rightious and annoying.

I much rather watch the trade deadline with my g/f, which I’m now going to.

  10. Marky2Fresh says:

I know this is a Flyers topic, but if Malones available I’d like to see my Leafs get him.

  11. recchi says:

I Have said it since the beginning of the season that recchi would end up back in philly and the pens would be nothing. i dont see malone coming to philly.

The Bouwmeester trade is definatly interesting, as well as the leetch trade, but i dont believe that either would end up in philly nor doan. i see the flyers getting recchi and weinrich and that being all.

  12. guinsfan4life says:

Malone is turning the corner?? Since when? He hasn’t come close to his rookie form

  13. toronto77 says:

i said if they find a way to get both than great, but the main focus is boumeester

  14. toronto77 says:

c mon guys honestly stop bad mouthing FlyerzFan12 or whoever posts the article…..it’s not something he made up, he read it from a web site and he even posted the link, wheteher it’s a dumb rumor or not it’s a rumor site, and one way or another it’s gonna get posted

  15. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

oh god thats you want 2 of the best up and coming defensemen in the nhl (pitkanen and bouwmeester) on the same team. oh if there is god dont let it happen.

  16. Flyaz says:

Nobody said they believed it….this IS hockey trade RUMORS right? Use some knowledge before you type, either that or stop using your thumbs to mash your keys.

  17. gregpb says:

why would you want a teachers strike if you are in college????? Maybe highschool because you don’t pay for it. I think their are a few too many kids in here that have daddy and mommy pay their tuition lol.

  18. PaulK123 says:

I don’t believe Clarke at all! Remember at the off-season when he signed Chris Therien, Mike Rathje,

and Derian Hatcher he said he was done. Then he goes out and gets Peter Forsberg! He is hiding something…

  19. PinkFloydFreak87 says:

Yeah, he’s always up to something. Him saying I’m not trying to trade for Bertuzzi, in my mind means, “I’m definitely trying to trade for Bertuzzi.” Not that they’ll definitely get him or anything. In all likelihood recchi will probably be back, and we should be able to get him for next to nothing.

  20. Labrosse says:

I think one of the thing you didnt completly understand about the trade deadline is that when you’re a seller like the panthers will be, what you’re trying to do is trade some veteran and try to get the best for the future (draft picks, prospect or young star)

so can you tell me why the panthers would trade a 22 years old defensmen who was drafted 3rd overall in 2002 and who will develop into a top 2 defensmen for years to come when what there trying to do is getting guys like that?

to make you understand a little better it’s like if you were telling that you want you’re leaf (who will miss the playoff) to go search john leclair, mark recchi and sergei gonchar for steen and wellwood in exchange.

theres buyers ( philly) and theres seller (florida) when you’re a seller you want to give old guys for young guys so why the …. would they trade bouwmeester!?!?!??!?!?

  21. flyersfan10897 says:

He also said later that at time he was never actively pursuing forsberg. He has said that he didnt know if Forsberg was interested or what he would have to pay him and it was just a situation he couldnt pass up.

  22. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

I study the moves of Bob Clarke and you MUST remember when trying to predict his moves that he will blow smoke up any writer or GM’s rear-end if he thinks he can gain from it.

That being said – I can see Bertuzzi coming the Philly. As much as it will pain Vancouver fans – Bert is DAMAGED goods. Philly is one of the few places he can be sent where he will be embraced and that has the need. Robert Esche, Brashear and a prospect not named Carter or Richards could get the deal done. Short term it hurts the Canucks. Long term it helps. Esche is a GOOD goalie with a GOOD head on his shoulders. Philly’s D has been hurt all year as has Esche. He could be a star in Vancouver.

Mark Recchi would be another EXCELLENT fit for Philly. I think it is the only likely place for thim to go other than staying in Pitt. That team DOES NOT NEED HIM in their situation and it would be a mercy killing to send him back to Philly.

I am CONFIDENT that the Flyers will get a d-man. My pick is Brian Leetch. He brings the leadership the Flyers NEED and Clarke has been trying to get him for years. Leetch is at the end of his carreer and this would be ONE LAST shot at the Cup.

    —–

With Peter Forsberg on a 2 year deal – the Flyers are the Definition of a NOW TEAM. They need to risk trading away some of their future for players that can help them win the Cup this year. Carter and Richards are off limits but Pitt wants Stephan Ruzitka – FINE. If Boston wants picks and Freddy Meyer – DONE.

If the Flyers want to even compete for the Cup they need to first get healthy and second add some veteran TALENT to the team. Roll players are nice with Primeau gone but this team needs to load up as best they can afford under the cap.

To me it is OK that they are not peaking in March but it would be nice to see some special team that are better than the special olympics. Defending a 3rd period lead might help too. Hitch must be pulling out his hair with all of these rookies.

  23. Weidner says:

Clarke will get a defenseman as you had indicated. What my friends and I don’t want to see is Meyer and picks go for Leetch.

As you said he is at the end and it shouldn’t take more than picks for him. If they want a player offer Randy Jones instead of Meyer. After watching the two of them all year I would rather have Meyer around for the future.

Would prefer to see the Flyers move Ellison, Downie, Ruzicka, or Picard if they have to move other younger players in any trades this week.

What would really help the Flyers and keep them under the cap is if someone would be willing to take Stevenson, Savage or Brashear.

Another one we do not want to see is Umberger for Recchi. Wouldn’t mind having Recchi back, but don’t think a player of the future is worth renting Recchi for a few games and one playoff run. The Flyers won’t pick up his option and he will be back in Pittsburgh next season anyway. One of the papers had Radivojevic as the player today.

  24. thereidester says:

    Look. Umberger is not headed to the steel city. Yes, Recchi could very easily be back in a flyers sweater, but you won;t see Umberger with a penguin on his chest. The trade that the flyers have talked about is;

    Steve Downie

    a second round pick

    to Pittsburgh for…

    Mark Recchi

There it is. Take it to the bank.

  28. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

I’d do Umberger for Recchi right away. Umberger would be good in Pittsburg. Recchi helps the Flyers RIGHT NOW in the leadership department and the PP…

  29. Timaa says:

We’re not trading Downie. Clarke went out of his way to pick him in the first round last year, and Downie has (excluding some dumb suspensions) impressed everyone ever since. He has Flyer written all over him. Eventhough you decided to post your message four times, I’m only going to say it once, Downie’s going to stay a Flyer.

  30. NemiNA says:

How sweet would that be us having Richards and Carter up front, Bouwmeester and Pitkanen at the backend, and Nittymaki between the pipes? GOD. It would probably take Jones or Meyer and Umberger. Maybe clarke can swing some picks instead of 2 guys.

  31. Flyers70 says:

I’d be shocked if they moved Downie. They really like his agitating game and the offensive skill he shows, when he shows it.

  32. mtrakker85 says:

I see the Flyers going for Recchi and Leetch. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took a real shot at getting Barnaby. I don’t know why the Panthers would want to get rid of Boumeester, isn’t he suppose to be a really good young d-man?

    Gagne – Forsberg – Knuble

    Kapanen – Nedved – Recchi

    Savage – Handzus – Richards

    Barnaby – Carter – Steveneson

    Leetch – Rathje

    Hatcher – Meyer

    Desjardins – Pitkanen

Meyer would be in the lineup unitl Johnsson returned.

My real hope is that Brashear and Therien won’t be around after the deadline.

  33. guinsfan4life says:

Gotta think the pens would get the better of that deal, then. A second round pick, however as late, and Downie, a top 15 prospect in the FLyers system. Pretty good deal for a player who has 1-2 years left.

  34. Flyers70 says:

The only way Clarkie moves Downie is if he believes Downie can’t play or if he thought the guy he was getting back would put them over the top for the Cup. As much as I like Recchi’s game, I don’t think Recchi is “the guy that puts them over the top”.

  35. PinkFloydFreak87 says:

Yeah the Flyers can definitely get Recchi back without giving up Umberger. He’s 38 for christ’s sake, nobody is going to give up much for him.

  36. Flyers70 says:

If Therien recovers from his concussion, he’d probably be waived and end up with the Phantoms when no one picked him up.

  37. flyersfan21 says:

I believe getting Recchi back is a curse. He’s very over rated and is a cancer in the locker room.

Trading a prospect for him is not worth it.

Remember Recchi wanted to leave the Flyers two years ago, so let him stay in Pittsburg.

If we do trade for Recchi, when the season is over, he’ll sign again with Pittsburg.

So not only did we loose a piece of the future we wont even have Recchi next season.

Plus what did Recchi do our last playoffs? He disappeared. He scored 6 points. In 18 games 4 goals and 2 assists.

I’m sure Umberger or Meyer will do better than that.

Recchi is a washed up waste of a hockey player.

  39. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

Rumors of PK specialist Wes Walz could be coming to Philly are peaking up. At the right price – this is the kind of move that helps win games this time of year.

The Flyers special teams are horrible now. Too many rookies NOT bought into the Hitch system yet. They WILL be good but not for a NOW team like the Flyers are right this second.

    I renew my predictions:

    – Leetch for Meyer and or picks

    – Recchi for Umberger or Ruzika

    – Walls for a 3rd rounder or something.
