Expansion? I’d be thinking more along the lines of contraction.

I’d contract the Panthers and the Coyotes.

It would bring the league down to 28 teams making it perfect for them to do their 4 conferences realignment.

Using last year’s entry draft order, here’s how the two teams could be split up just for fun. Lets say there are 2 rounds. The 2012 draft picks go back into the draft, UFAs are ineligible as they are UFAs.

1.Edmonton – Oliver Ekman Larsson (bit of a toss up between him or Yandle, but i go with Larsson for the Oilers because his salary is more affordable)
2.Columbus – Jonathan Huberdeau (oh Montreal would love this guy, but the Jackets need dynamic forwards)
3.Montreal – Keith Yandle (perfect fit for the Habs but would have loved Huberdeau)
4.NY Islanders – Nick Bjugstad (a high end prospect that should be a strong top 6 forward with Tavares)
5.Toronto – Erik Gudbranson ( big blueliner still a work in progress)
6.Anaheim – Quintin Howden (two way forward who would eventually replace Koivu)
7.Minnesota – Dmitri Kulikov (skilled puck moving Dman who would add depth to the wild D behind Suter)
8.Carolina – Martin Hanzal (Another big monster centre to joing the Staals)
9.Winnipeg – Brandon Gormley (a two way defence prospect in the Redden mold)
10.Tampa – Mikkel Boedker (skilled winger to play with Stamkos or Lecavalier)
11.Colorado – Kris Versteeg (a scoring winger to play with their top quality centres)
12.Buffalo – David Runblad (defence prospect who is great skater, puck mover)
13.Dallas – Connor Murphy (former 1st rounder. Son of Gord Murphy)
14.Calgary – Jacob Markstrom (Rebuild for Flames would start in goal with Markstrom)
15.Ottawa – Zbeynk Michalek (Joins Brother Milan in Ottawa)
16.Washington – Tomas Flieschmann (Former cap brings added skill needed in top 6)
17.San Jose – Mark Visentin (top goalie prospect)
18.Chicago – Drew Shore (forward prospect)
19.Detroit Max Goncharov (puck moving dman)
20.Philly – Alex Petrovic (big defenceman)
21.Nashville – Peter Mueller (skilled top 6 forward)
22.Pittsburgh – Radim Vrbata (a skilled forward to play with Crosby?)
    23.Boston – Rasmus Bengtsson (d prospect)
    24.St Louis – Michael Stone (D prospect)
25.Vancouver – Shane Doan (if didnt sign in Phx, he’d prob sign here)
26.NY Rangers – Rocco Grimaldi (another good young american player to join Miller, Kreider and Stepan)
27.New Jersey – Jack Skille (adds depth up front)
    28.LA Keaton Ellerby (defence depth)

    Edmonton – Scott Upshall
    Columbus – Connor Brickley
    Montreal – Antoine Vermette
    NY Islanders – Colby Robak
    Toronto – Victor Tikhonov
    Anaheim – Chris Brown
    Minnesota – Lucas Lessio

    Winnipeg – Shawn Matthias
    Tampa – Chris Summers
    Colorado – Andy Miele
    Buffalo – Marcel Goc
    Dallas – Vincent Trocheck
    Calgary – John McFarland
    Ottawa – Filip Kuba
    Washington – Tomas Kopecky
    San Jose – Seam Bergenheim
    Chicago – Kyle Rau
    Detroit – Brian Campbell
    Philly – Rosy Klesla
    Nashville – Jordan Szwarz
    Pittsburgh – Corban Knight
    Boston – Mike Lee
    St Louis – Mike Weaver

Now we’re talking let’s contract PHO and FLA have a dispersal draft. Then expand to Quebec City and Seattle and have an expansion draft. Give them the 1st and 2nd overall picks and everyone wins. Fun.

If that happened the best pick up would be Bissonette outta Phx, as he is far and away the best tweeter in pro sports, lol.
