Actually beating them in every major statistical category is, by definition, outperforming them. And 8 points next to 5 points this early in the season is a pretty big difference. Also Lupul is scoring big goals that help get wins.

While I wont debate this point (because Im not entirely sure), I wouldnt exactly call a HTR ranking reliable. First, this site is essentially "Leafs Town" so the bias is ever present and second, its like trusting in Wikipedia for information. Not sure much.

i'd say top 10 but definately not top 5! i can list these 5 guys that are better and are definately the top 5 holland,lamoriello,sather chiarelli,shero,
and yes shero is at burke's level infact he's above burke! we'll have the same talk again when the penguins and shero win the stanley cup this year! yeah he buily vancouuver but did they win a cup under his watch? no he didn't directly build the ducks he added pronger,niedermayer,and ryan but the core was already there from murray!they aren't as deep tody however because bob murray their g.m.is slowly wrecking them!

We already established he's not the best GM in the league. lol.

He's top 5 in the league right now, was all I'm saying. You can argue Shero, but I don't think he's at Burke's level.

Burke built Vancouver (Sedins, Kesler) and Anaheim (Niedermayer, Pronger, Bobby Ryan). ANd they are still very good teams today, both with deep systems as well.

He has not had the same luck in Toronto, I will admit that, but he inherited a very very very bad team (likes of Stajans Ponikarovsky, Antropov, Jason Blake, Kubina) and in two years has built one of the youngest teams in the league with talented players (Kessel, Gardiner, and Phaneuf). To say what he has not is a miracle, is far fectched, as Toronto would probably still be a bottom feeder today.
